Does Lendl have the record for most Grand Slam losses to the eventual champion.

Lendl lost to the eventual champion at a Grand Slam 23 times
4 at AO, 5 at French, 5 at Wimbledon, and 9 at US Open

Federer lost to the eventual champion at a Grand Slam 21 times
6 at AO, 7 at French, 4 at WImbledon, and 4 at US Open

Djokovic lost to the eventual champion at a Grand Slam 18 times
3 at AO, 7 at French, 2 at Wimbledon, and 6 at US Open

Nadal lost to to the eventual champion at a Grand Slam 10 times
4 at AO, 0 at French, 4 at WImbledon, and 2 at US Open

Berdych lost to the eventual champion at a Grand Slam 12 times
5 at AO, 1 at French, 4 at Wimbledon, 2 at US Open

Hewitt lost to the eventual champion at a Grand Slam 13 times

Probably, yes.

I thought Connors might be a contender, but he "only" has 15 losses to the eventual champ (8 at US, 6 at W, 1 at AO).

Connors has the all time record for titles and match wins, though.
Lew fails to factor in the 7.5 year age gap that made Jimbo a non-factor at AO once it switched to HC and upgraded facilities and scheduling to make the now-equal slam relevant. Also, once WTT-related sanctions were removed at RG, Jimbo competed and was relevant with 7 straight QFs/SFs from age 26 to 32. Lendl had a lot more bites at the apple because of the coincidence of his later date of birth syncing with AO rebirth/end of FFT/WTT war.

More respectable to lose to the eventual tourney winner. Worst is when player you lose to loses the next match.
