Does usta ratings computer account for the fact for guys that play in Senior division or regular division that are of same rating ? Lets say Senior 4.5 level guys come in and play in regular division guys in 4.5 , does computer account for the difference in play ? or is 4.5 level seen as same across age divisions ?

and same for 4.0 division.

The computer does not differentiate between age groups. It computes the same if the person you beat is a 60 year old with a 4.23 dynamic rating, or a 20 year old with a 4.23 dynamic rating.

I have been told that at a certain age (in this person's example, 50) the end year ratings are adjusted down a 1/2 point. So if a 5.0 turns fifty he would be eligible to be bumped down to a 4.5. I don't know if it's automatic or if it's something you have to appeal.

If this is true, it seems like it would address ability differences between senior and adult league players of the same level.

It might be true. These senior guys just can't move. i am mostly talking about super senior over 60. These guys can't even cover a lob that lands on the service line. I was just amazed at what type of balls they would just let go and ask the younger guy to cover it.

I was playing in USTA 4.5 league with a older guy 62 years old. and i couldn't believe kind of shots that he was just letting go. And when i asked "what happened ?" He would say " Weren't you going to get it ?" LOL. i felt like walking off the court but gentleman that i am, i tried to help him as much as i could. still couldn't stop the beating we took from mediocre 4.0 and 4.5 player that was fairly young.

It is of my opinion that any guy that is over 60 years old should not play regular division where most of younger guys play.

^ I suppose that's because you are embarrased to have been beaten by them so often.

If they are a 4.5, they should be able to beat 20 year old 4.5s or 4.5s of any age a decent percentage of the time. If they can't beat 4.5s, they aren't 4.5s (or whatever level they are playing at).

Agree 100%. It's the players decision to play and a captain can include them if they desire to play. The opponent can't complain about the age of their opponent.
