Tips from the pros
Erik Oberhammer, from the City of Myrtle Beach Tennis Center, offers a visual swing pattern for a player’s forehand and backhand groundstrokes.
Does your swing resemble a merry-go-round or a ferris wheel? When hitting effective topspin groundstrokes, try to have your swing resemble a ferris wheel so your ball will rotate like a bicycle tire.
A ferris wheel swing keeps the strings pointed towards your target longer allowing for a longer hitting zone and better contact with the ball. A merry-go-round swing is horizontal, which allows higher risk and a much shorter hitting zone.
