Despite that choke on the 3rd set point, Ferrer was excellent in holding there. He didnt allow Berdych much to work with, thats why he held the gatekeeper role for so long. He's so resilliant

Berdych is too mentally unstable to win a slam. He needs a Magnus Norman or a Lendl.

You're welcome! :)

Yeah, nice saving of two SPs, but that third save was a mere present from Da Birdbrain.
It was. But perhaps he overplayed it out of fear of Ferrer getting to it. Nevertheless, it was a sitter. Think he should have gone for the inside-out forehand on it

Well he's a fighter indeed but that doesn't mean you have to like him. It can be pretty annoying when you're rooting for the other player.

There are people that want the other player to win, and then there's people that hate because he can't beat the big boys. It's more of a hate of big winners than anything.

That third breakpoint he had.... that will haunt him tonight. Make that point, win the set and possibly go on and win the match. Costly costly error from him and the DF just handed the match on a plate to Ferrer. Not that he didnt deserve it, he totally did but how different this match could of been if Berdych had made that shot.

And the birdbrain strikes again by not challenged the non-ace. You can't blame the umpire for not seeing that, it was as close as they come, but you can blame Birdman for not challenging it on a crucial point. That's just plain stupid.

Nevertheless, congrats to Daveed! Well done

My congrats to Ferrer! Indeed, what a fighter, what tenacity.
ALWAYS makes up for his ranking. A deserved long-time top-10 player.

Berdych... oh my. I usually don't yell "choke!" all too often, but what da hell, he completely collapsed after missing that 3rd setpoint.
Murray got himself a sports psychologist. I'd say it wouldn't be a bad idea if Berd did the same. It might well already be far too late for that, though...

Agreed. That shot would be the perfect counter-argument to people saying Berdych deserves a slam. The guy has zero touch and zero mental composure. I mean, not only did he miss it, his technique on that shot looked completely off. As if it's the first time he's holding a racket. If Federer would miss that shot, at least he would make it look good.

Well congratulations David on your 22nd title. A nice number to have.

As for Berdych, just the usual. He lost more finals than he has won throughout his career so no surprise he lost this one as well.

This should be a lesson for all of those who thought Berdych deserves a slam. If the guy is a mental midget on small finals, how is he going to win a big one? To win a slam final the guy needs to be mentally stable for at least 3 sets. Judging by today's final, I say that's a pretty tall order for him.

Berdych chocked really badly. That drop shot he played during set point, wow. Should have blasted it for a winner but played it fancy.

That makes no difference. Ferrer is 22-25 in finals, although I think 6 are to Nadal on Clay, and three are Novak, one Fed, and one Murray.

That said, Berdy had a great week, but this match isn't the one that gives him choke status. Daveed is just relentless. He does this to 99 percent of the tour.

Kei Nishikori has his number, and has to tear his soul out to beat the guy.

You want to call Berd a choke artist, use Nadal as the example. He never even puts up a fight on Rafa.

when you choke like that in a 250 final, imagine in a grand slam final if he had to serve for the title
He'd have to win 2 sets then 5 games to get there... so I think the people in the 1st row are safe....

Great win by Ferrer - 6 years running with at least 1 title.

FYI - he has a losing F record too - 22-25. But nothing to be ashamed of.

Whatever this new guy did to make Ferrer aggressive is working. Daveed's usually at around 22-28 winners. A couple matches this week, he had over 40.

The endless talk about the evergreens

Ferrer looked rejuvenated from the tail end of the last year in which he wasn't in great form though he was injured/ill from Wimbledon onwards apparently.

This guy is another one who's been pro since 1999/2000 and he busts his backside day in and day out. Whether you like him or not credit where credit is due!!!

The win vs Karlovic meant so much to him and it pushed him onwards to today!

Vamos Ferrer :)
