Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem has tested for the coronavirus after returning to Austria following his appearance at the Adria Tour event in Belgrade.
Thiem, ranked at No. 3 in the world, was one of the main stars in the opening part of the Adria Tour -- which took place over the weekend in Belgrade. Players and fans didn't particularly follow social distancing rules as there was lots of hugging and handshaking during the tournament.

After the tournament ended, Adria Tour organizer Novak Djokovic, Thiem and Zverev hit a nightclub to have a good time. After returning to Austria on Monday, Thiem and a member of his team underwent a testing for the coronavirus -- but luckily the results came in negative for both.

Today, Thiem will return to competing at the Austrian Pro Series as he is set to clash against Alexander Erler. Thiem has played seven matches at the Austrian Pro Series since late-May and he has earned six wins.

Dominic Thiem absolutely enjoyed the Adria Tour
Thiem won the Adria Tour event in Belgrade after handing a three-set defeat to Serb Filip Krajinovic in the final.

"I played some matches in Austria, but this event was different,” Thiem said. “We had high quality players and played in front of a huge crowd. It was my first time in Serbia and it was amazing. “It was a perfect weekend.

I’m happy with the level I played this week. I’ve been fully in practice for quite a while - I played seven matches in Austria. "But I have to say, it’s something very different with the big crowd. You’re a little bit tight and you want to play better, because you’re not just playing for yourself, you also want to give the fans a good show.

So I’m super happy that I won all of my matches. "It’s great that it ended up like that, but first of all I had a really great time here. I had an amazing weekend. It was for a good cause, too, so it couldn’t be better.

So, a big thank you to Novak and his team, his family, for organizing this great event, and making the time special for us here." Dominic Thiem missed the opening week of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown because of his Adria Tour duties but he will play at the Mouratoglou Academy starting this weekend.

the incubation period is longer.
so if he got it in Belgrade, future tests will show it.

Some people take a long time to show positive virus test result since getting infected for the first time. Thiem should not be complacent and sould keep getting tested in the next few weeks.

It may also depend on the test as some apparently have a high rate of false negatives. On the other hand, a positive test for Thiem would probably only result in a suggestion to cut practice from six hours a day down to four.

Negative tests must be newsworthy in tennis.

The test was likely rigged. It's literally impossible to avoid contracting a virus as contagious and deadly as covid, especially given how many infected people he's been exposed to.

What is this nonsense?

Too late to turn this story around for Djoker.

lol if 122K deaths isn't compelling enough then you're never going to admit you're wrong

if you think how serious @tennis_pro went about Berrettini Open, I think you can imagine that he or she won't give up so easily about this virus.
beyond, just yesterday @tennis_pro was more willing to believe in dragons than in this virus, so yeah, I'm afraid that the number of deaths at this point in time is irrelevant for some people

This is an excellent result for sure, but he is now going to need to be even more vigilant with continuous testing for him and the team that he is constant contact with.

Yeah, I know that's just the US. I said 122K because I'm assuming t_p is from the states, because how many other countries out there speak English and insist the pandemic is a hoax?
Trew dat butt the walrus nose know boarders. Awl ***** ********’s buh dees will now expoart hiz plan four whirled dom uh nation.

30m people have died globally already this year. What would be interesting to know is the average age of Covid deaths versus other deaths. If Covid deaths were much older it would lend credibility to the argument that its just a flu. Unfortunately the flu is often the cause of death of elderly patients who are suffering from multiple co-morbidities. I don‘t think anyone is saying its a hoax.

It context though. 3m people die very year in America and the average age of Covid deaths is 80? with victims suffering from severe co-morbidities.
From what I've read it's going to be the most dangerous thing the average person could likely face this year if you're 40 and above. You're thinking of Italy where they have a huge number of deaths amongst the elderly.

3 million people can die every year posting memes on TTW for all I care--that doesn't make 122K extra deaths trivial.

This puts COVID over WW1 in terms of death toll, and is the equivalent of x2 Vietnam Wars.

Plus, you guys have gone to war in Iraq and Afghanistan over less, so I don't understand this sudden change in attitude. Does COVID-19 have to identify as a Muslim refugee from the Middle East before the country as a whole takes it seriously?

t_p literally just said he thinks it's a hoax, and the number of people being video taped saying so without any protection would suggest otherwise

well, @Lew II is apparently from Italy, but this didn't stop him from making that thread yesterday about how mean it is of TTW to bash Novak for Adria Tour

I think you maybe trivialising the non Covid deaths over the Covid deaths. Average 80 of Covid deaths is 80.

Clearly not enough "context." Here's more:

And look how quickly this new "flu" overtook heart disease and cancer as the leading cause of death despite the (near) nationwide lockdown:

There's really no further "argument that its just a flu." It's bunk, and we should stop trivializing this pandemic as we may not see a viable vaccine for a while.

This forum really is full of know-nothing crackpots. Guess we shouldn't be surprised that a tennis forum would reflect the worst tendencies of the typical anti-vax demographic, but the sheer # of COVID truthers here has been startling to behold.

You are a bright fellow. Carefully analyse and think about the numbers for yourself.

I did chuckle at the selective use of stats as you pulled a piece from April 17th which coincided with the US max death rate. In any case 90% of the victims would have serious cardiovascular related co-morbidities anyway.

However you slice 'em the popular talking point that COVID is not that different from the flu no longer passes the laugh test. We can argue whether the lockdowns and other restrictions were/are warranted, but that's a whole different argument than whether the numbers would've been significantly worse without them.

And your accusation of cherry-picking is amusing, but not at all illuminating.

Yes it appears to be about 1.5x more dangerous than a bad flu. My understanding is that they they made major diagnostic error earlier and so the likelihood of dying is now halved from when the outbreak first got going in March. I will send you something.

Take another look at that "selective" graph and see how quickly the COVID fatality rate was rising. No amount of "major diagnostic error" could plausibly explain away such a startling rate of new infections/deaths compared to a mundane flu outbreak.

well it did. You remember the initial concern was about pneumonia well it turns out it’s about thrombosis hence the cardio obesity diabetes link.
They are now treating with anti inflammatories and people are not dying anymore. It’s one reason why Russia hasn’t had many deaths. They understood this from the beginning.

I just said 122K deaths was not trivial, so how would I be trivialising non-COVID deaths? The difference is that the POTUS and Fox News aren't going around saying car crashes and cancer are a hoax.

Context is important but in this case it's like saying diabetes is just a mild case of gout because cancer kills more people every year.

First off, those figures from Russia are heavily disputed and they've recently begun using less rigid criteria for COVID deaths.

But more importantly, that LinkedIn link you just sent me was in fact a widely shared post on social media that was fact-checked by Reuters (among others, I'm sure) to be partly false with the clear verdict that "COVID-19 is not the same as thrombosis." A cheap steroid called dexamethasone recently became the first drug shown to reduce COVID deaths, but that's different from this old story you've dug up.

Again this isn't just another ho-hum disease that be treated like any other that we know of. Until a viable vaccine becomes widely available (if at all) we need to follow the latest guidelines from the WHO, CDC and other public health organizations lest we overwhelm our medical system and force another costly shutdown of our economy. Life ain't getting back to "normal" anytime soon, whether we like it or not.

lol if 122K deaths isn't compelling enough then you're never going to admit you're wrong
122k deaths of people who have died from a billion of different diseases most often cancer but who got tested for covid so that the offical cause of death is covid

dude I know a couple of doctors who told me that they get paid extra for testing a specific number of patients for covid. One guy told me that he got paid extra for changing the official cause of death from long cancer to covid. No harm done, cash is in the pocket, everyone's happy.
I know one nurse who got tested positive but she felt fine so she got tested privately and the results were negative

Why would these things happen if this was was a legit threat? These is the stuff I hear FROM THE PEOPLE I KNOW PERSONALLY

not to mention some of the hilarious articles I read like a freaking goat being tested positive or an italian guy who was healthy but got tested positive, died in a car crash and the official cause of death was covid lmao

I'm not saying that the virus doesn't exist, I'm saying that I have huge doubts that it does but I would never organize a global event these days

maybe the USO/FO know that it's a hoax and they are done with the BS
