Donald Young is overrated.

I can't believe it, every time this mega-clown wins a couple of matches even in qualifiers everyone start carrying on as if he is the new messiah..

face it..he is a mummys boy with his daft hat at a jaunty angle who won't win anything except maybe a smelly tosspot.

Uh, in other earth-shattering news, the Scarlett Johannson is hot.

I don't hear a lot of raving over Young. If the commentators are doing it, who cares. The few TT users that are doing it are either being sarcastic, or they need to see the records for Young's disappointing history on the tour.

Donald Young IS overrated. Media has hyped this guy up though not him just like Ryan Harrison. Young beat a tired Seppi, can he beat Nishikori?

Did you resurrect this thread from 2010 ? Because no one has been taking about him. Rather everyone is punching him left and right.

Give that guy a break.

Please post evidence of your claim or it is worthless. Show some actual quotes from other posters that you have issue with.

Thing is basically no one does that. You must read that into every comment because you don't like him.

Yes, he was once overrated, overhyped, erroneously thought to be the savior of American tennis. But, that was years ago.

We've all seen where his career has gone since. Up to No. 38 based on a strong second-half of 2011, and then a slide through 2012 and most of 2013 down to a low of 190. Then he got it back together a little, got into the top 100, and now has had a good start to 2014.

Some of us are fans and are enjoying a "good" result by DY. No one thinks he's the "new messiah" No one. Some of us have humble wishes for him - Top 50, a 250 title, the ability to stay in the Top 100 for a couple of years. But, I think we all see the limitations in his game that will most likely prevent him from being a Top 20 player, never mind a champion. Most people who still bother to follow him are incredbily realistic about his situation.

So, your whole claim that "everyone thinks DY is incredible" just to tear him down and call him "overrated" is complete BS. And, why would you ever care about his hat, unless you're 12 years old.

I don't see anyone going crazy over Young...

All I see is a few people happy for him that he's managed to get to the 3rd round of a slam again. I literally haven't seen a single person say that now he's going to go on to be top 10 or something.

Can't you just be happy for the guy?

The only reason people freak out is because he never wins anything. Everyone here knows that he's not going to do much.

May not win another round but I'd take the 90 pts (which should move him up to around atp 75) and $75K. 2 rounds at a major is definitely a move in the right direction.

Couldn't agree more. Young is the most maligned tennis player on this board.
But I guess wishing the kid well is "hype".

Problem with Young is that with the Seppi and Haase matches he played like his old ways where he was mentally unwound and he had some poor shot decisions, routine shots were unforced errors, risky tennis at bad moments but he was lucky enough that those guys let him off the hook.

His good start is just an illusion from the reality that the calendar year is 12 months, not one week. Young should be making notes for improvement from those two wins not brushing them off. Just because you won them doesn't mean there's not something you can't take to improve for future matches.

I would like to see him achieve more, but he has some really poor attitude on the court where you're almost detached whether he wins or loses. Even Murray with all his talent couldn't win with his negative attitude. Murray changed his gameplay around and his attitude and suddenly he gained some slams. It's not a coincidence.
