Done with the next gen

All of them chokers of the highest level - Rublev, Zverev and Medvevev... Least one could expect is to reach the QFs and they even fail at that - relinquishing handy leads. No wonder a 40 year old with a handful of matches under his belt for 2 years is the second favourite of the tournament.

Incredible pathetic ineptitude.....

Indeed. The top tier Next Gen are sucking it up. But the second and third tier doing Ok. Shapo, HH, FAA all representing in the QFs.

Well this is one reason Djoker has 19 slams so…

5 of the 8 in QFs are "NextGen" players, which in this case I'm defining as "anyone who counts as NextGen if Medvedev does."

I think they're doing quite alright.
Frankly apart from Berrettini none of the others really have a hope of going all the way. Berretini too at a stretch only.. I am more disappointed in players I mentioned, who should be approaching their peaks but fall apart repeatedly

Medvedev was looked like he was dead in first 4-5 games after coming back. It might have been something physical. He didn't move 1% of the level he was moving at just yesterday.

Medvedev plays style of Tennis which demands high levels of fitness. He is not there yet.

Right. The three players the OP points out - Rublev, Zverev, and Medvedev - are all best suited to hard courts (Medvedev) or some combination of hard courts and clay (Zverev and Rublev).

On the other hand, the players aged 25 or younger who are in the last eight at Wimbledon all have games best suited to some combination of grass and clay (Berrettini) or grass and hard (Shapovalov, Auger-Aliassime, Hurkacz), with the sole possible exception of Khachanov, who benefitted from Tsitsipas's early exit.

If there were more tournaments on grass, it might well be that I'd say of all of the first four players through that, like Medvedev on hard, grass is definitively their best surface. I can certainly imagine thinking that of Shapovalov and Hurkacz, but possibly Berrettini and Auger-Aliassime, too.

But what I don’t understand: Why always the big hopes before any Slam, only to get disappointed again?

Why always the talk like: “Okay, but this is definitely the last hurrah of the Big 3” when there are no signs that their reign will end?

Why is it always “the next Slam” (or “the next season” when a new year begins) when “they will take over”?

Until Djokovic is eliminated - nothing matters for Federer.
Still it’s a great opportunity for federer. If something happens to Djokovic then Fed 100% wins it. Plus a Fedovic would be competitive albeit djoko is the favourite. Still it would be close I think.

Still they both have to get there yet but both have good chances.

Really really hope that Novak thrashes Fed good. Hopefully in straight sets with bakery products thrown in.

Big 3 are still playing amazing tennis so it’s not too bad that nextgen sucks on grass lol. Besides it’s not all of them - FAA, Zverev, Shapo, Berretini, Hurcazs all playing great stuff.

I’d love to see that. Although I don’t expect it. Novak never normally has an easy time with Fed in a grand slam final. Even now I wouldn’t expect any different. I think djoko can get it done again if it happened but it would be close.

There’s a lot on the line and both players would be super pumped. Fed will be bang up for it and we know the crowd will be fully behind him. Anything can happen in these big 3 matches. Still djoko would be the favourite.

It is a bit pathetic, although to be honest, I expected Djokovic to win this one even if those guys had gone far.

Sometimes I hope the next gens read the TTW to get a kick in their arse and find some sort of motivation that doesn't evolve completely around fame and money.

Christ it's all falling into place for Federer isn't it ?

What a joke
How? Let's be honest here the one and only big obstacle for Federer is Djokovic and no way in hell Djokovic isn't gonna reach the final with the draw that he has. Even at 40 I'll be surprised if Fed loses to someone like Hurkacz or Berrettini at Wimbledon. Medvedev wouldn't do any better.
