Donnay carbon speed strings and gaze ...

Who remembers the grip gaze and carbon graphite strings.
Here are a few pics of the Donnay offerings.
Its interesting that most of the tennis community considers poly strings a modern tennis improvement but poly types like these "carbon speed" strings from Donnay offered a great play option rather than natural gut even back in the 80s. I find they play very similar to rpm and msv hex and look like the current barbed offering. The gaze grip really worked if you did not mind your had getting sticky.

Personally, Gen 1 poly doesn't play the same as the modern stuff-- an interesting find though!

PS. I have a (potentially) original Borg with that Gaze grip on it!!!

I really like those Gen 1 poly's ... find them very soft with lots of feel. Just broke a set on my bancroft borg personal wood racket yesterday. I thought they played very similar to natural gut. Maybe the key is to play at low tensions which also seem to be my choice for the modern poly's, which I do not like when strung to tight. Im really comparing them to the modern co-poly strings, which are quite different than the pure poly strings.
