DONNAY vs. ANGELL

Both companies offer superior products that are a cut above most offerings you will find at your local tennis shop.

Angell's are SUPER flexy and muted and offer good pop despite their very thin beams. "Old school-er's" will love them.

Donnay has a wider selection but most offerings are also very arm friendly and feel firmer than the Angells. More modern than the Angell's,
which are basically 10+ year old molds that rarely change.

Angell has far superior customer service and Donnay's is among the worst anywhere, unless you deal directly
with some of the co's higher ups.

Donnay has a great demo program, but their horrible cust service can make this a risky proposition

I've got the impression that Donnay(or Xenecore) is outsourcing their customer services.
They have all intentions to provide best customer services (I think) but they simply do not seem to have any prior experiences in tennis.
And some (or all) of reps are NOT tennis players my guess is.

How are the angells so powerful if they are flexible and thin beamed? Serious question, I've never hit with one.

For me if you say flexible I am thinking of tc95 as that was flexible enough for my standards of what I look for in a frame i.e. (below 60ra) and in that case tc95 with 18x20 has very beefy swingweight so that's where pop comes from. I did not think that tc97 was particularly powerful in comparison to say dr98 pop nor that flexible that would make you lose pop.Just nice middle of the road stick no more or less pop than say blade.

Others might disagree but for me it reminded me of 2015 blade 98 at 64 ra

Could not have said it better...
If it's even a question which company to go with I would pick Angell 1000%

can someone possibly compare tc97 and dual core Pro One (2014 or earlier) ? I'm considering 18x20 but 16x19 comparison would be equally appreciated. Thanks.

I really have to disagree with this (sorry). DR98 for me was much harder work - low powered, low launch and much stiffer feel. Wider beam and isometric head shape make it a much different proposition.

Blade 98 more similar to the Angell but also harder work and stiffer feel. Also no 2 Blades are ever the same: QC is all over the place - so you have no idea what you are getting without paying to spec check. One can be 345 swingweight and the next 310. Where the TC97 scores i think is in the lay up: the strategic use of graphite interwoven in a certain way to offer an element of flex, but also forgiveness and a plush feel. Likewise the foam fill in the Angell shines through in the plow through and feel. Power is exceptionally easy to generate for a 97. Finally the QC of Angell is very tight: you get what you expect.

Note: It's important to stress that what i've said doesn't make Angell for everyone. Some will enjoy the flex and feel, others will not.

angell...quality and customer service, paul is a great guy..good bang for the buck on a custom stick.

donnay is experiencing a slow death...sports direct owns donnay and they have a way of killing a good thing.....
customer service is horrible, quality has slipped, pricing model is insane...
Nice sticks, subjective yes...
this model of adding more cores is wacky...what is next hepta, octa...really
I do wish someone that cares would (buy them) resurrect them, it would be good for the market and bring them back in the game..
Filled...hmmm...some like those fillings..some do not.....

I have hit with both but I would have to say though If you are comparing the current models I would go with Angell. I have with the with Donnay's Pro One Quad core and the Angell TC 97 and prefer the TC 97 over it. The quad core seems to be stiffer for me and i like a good flex racket. However, for donnay I do like their original x-series better then both. After going back and forth I settled on the Donnay x- dark red 94. It is the best stick I have ever hit with and I love the thin beams. I have stocked up on 4 of them and grommets, it is smooth and great flex. Tons of spin and pop on it. Only problem is it is discontinued. I also own the x-reds, x-blue99, & x-orange, but the dark red is my fav. It is a shame that Donnay went to dual core so fast and discontinuing the original x series. From my experience with Donnay, the more cores they add, the stiffer it feels for me. However they claim the new penta cores are softer then the quads but I have yet to test it. The customer service with Donnay is pretty bad where Angell is great. Once my dark reds go I think I will go Angell TC 95 as it seems most similar to the dark reds, but I do wish they would relaunch the x series instead of keep adding cores so quickly killing off previous models.

I ordered my fourth (and most likely final) Pro One Tricore and it was an adventure getting to me. I moved since my last order but I indicated my new address twice. Donnay's rep emailed me and told me they didn't have my grip size. I agreed to get a different grip size. Rep emails me again to tell me my original requested grip size was found. Great, all good. I get the email with the tracking number. They ship USPS Priority mail so I expect the racquet to arrive in two days. Racquet doesn't show. I figure it may take another day, no problem. I leave for a business trip knowing when i get home my racquet should be waiting. I get home 10 days later, no racquet. I punch in the tracking info. Says racquet is undeliverable and being sent back to shipper. damn. I email Donnay rep. Assures me that it was sent to my new address and promises to resend when they receive it. Another business trip and two weeks pass. I get home still no racquet! I track it again. The postal service rerouted it to my new address. I got the racquet the next day. It took over 3 weeks but i finally got it. Now I have two Pro One Tri's in regular rotation. Two brand new ones on the wall waiting to take their place. One first generation Pro One I use for practice and 8 sets of grommets. On a positive note, Donnay's rep was very good replying quickly to my emails and admitted someone there screwed up the shipping label. I got these at a good prices. I've only bought these on sale and/or with a discount and have paid between $125(2), $140 & $150 for them new. Despite the drama, still loving the stick!

Looks like Donnay's cust svc is still in ruins. I guess they will never turn things around there.

I have had zero problems with Donnay so far (knock on wood). Usually when I call someone answers, and if nobody answers, then I have always gotten a call back (without even leaving a message) in a couple of minutes.

I ordered a racquet from them a few weeks ago on a Sunday night. On Monday afternoon I got an email with the tracking number. Racquet was delivered on Thursday in a normal racquet box. Inside racquet was in plastic and wrapped in bubble wrap. Grip was the right size and the correct string and tension had been strung, so overall a very easy experience with no issues.

When making this purchase, like any kind of big purchase, I make sure I use a good credit card that won't hassle me if I need to dispute a charge or if they refuse to take a return. To date I have not needed it with Donnay, but I was comfortable in ordering from them, even given all the horror stories I have read on here, since I knew I could always just call my credit card company if they started yanking me around.

Yeah, the record has been one good one, then two horror stories. Then another lucky member, and two horror stories. Glad you got your frame with no problems. They fixed my order that was messed up, so I give that to them. In the end, my order was successful, just a couple hiccups.

I've never played with an Angell, sounds like a spectacular frame. Sure like these Pro One GTs I recently picked up used though. Just the perfect combination of feel and crispness IMO with excellent comfort. Definitely more easy power with a bigger sweetspot than the Pro Tour 280. A slightly thicker beam which is fine by me, but nothing like a widebody where mishits totally misfire. My friend says hes never played with a better balanced frame. Feels like a quality solid frame - was a little afraid I'd feel something shaking around in there, but definitely solid and well made which translates to a very reliable hit.
