Don't play Hyper-G 1.25, play HEAD Lynx Tour 1.25 ...

It's got the same numbers, but feels and plays better.

That's my hypothesis. Please weigh in with your thoughtful comments. (Thoughtless comments are also welcomed; heck, that's 92% of TTW [cry_laughing_emoji].)

I basically posted this exact same thread a week ago. :sneaky:

I've found HG to be a very light weight string whereas lynx tour is a heavy string. This will significantly affect swing weight from the extra mass in the hoop from lighter or heavier string. Both have its pros and cons…heavier string will feel more sturdy at impact while the lighter string will allow easier racquet head acceleration. HG provides better bite/grip on the ball IMO.

That makes perfect sense I swear everything Head makes tends to be heavy and/or hits with a lot of depth. Its like their trademark. Hyper-g actually sounds more interesting from your description

HG is too low powered for me to use in full bed… I use it for mains with GW cross at 37/34. The control of HG makes it a great string at low tension

So,

Let's assume that I don't (yet) have any GW, but I have a lot of other "famous" smooth polys for crosses.

What might be a kinda-sorta substitute pick for the Ghostwire that I might have in yonder parts bin?

/Acey

I ask bc I want to try this under-forty yankeeweight HG stringbed if that wasn't obvi.

Can you share the gauge and frame you are using this combo in?

I've been interested in doing this combo myself and have multiple frames that I can from 48RA noodles like Price Graphite Pro 90 to 69RA 2x4s like Babolat Pure Drive

@AceyMan - Have you tried Tourna BHS7T? Lots of bite and light-ish weight like HG, better tension maintenance, albeit a bit more powerful/thuddy and tends to shear-break at the grommets in 10-20% of string jobs, so only really great if you string for yourself.

@blai212 - How about IsoSpeed Cream? Not quite the tension maintenance of GW but has rubber mixed in for even softer feel. Or SPPP? More like GW, with almost as good tension maintenance.

I have found isospeed cream to be soft but not provide much durability/playability duration for me since the string is so soft that it will get pancaked quite fast if hitting hard. SPPP is a decent cross but also a bit low powered so I prefer to use a cross with more pop. Of course you could compensate SPPP’s low power by stringing it few lbs lower. Also found BHS7T to be quite harsh on off center hits for me but if that doesn’t bother you then by all means, go for it.

Got it. Good info. I've currently got BHS7T/Cream in one of my VC95 frames. I'll probably try GW as a cross next.

Can anyone chime in on yonex poly tour spin and how it compares to hyper g and lynx tour? Is it heavy like lynx tour or light?

Lynx Tour is better than both Hyper G and YPTS. Lynx Tour has been one of the best strings I've played in a while. Works well in just about every frame and performs extremely well.

How does Lynx Tour compare to T1 Black Knight?
I used HG 17g before and thought it was comfortable with loads of spin. Probably the most spin I have ever experienced due to a string.
But I switched to T1 Black Knight because it is similar but had a unique dwell feedback that I appreciated. Felt like I was putting more spin than HG, although probably wasn't as much. Both strings lasted forever too which I appreciated.

Lynx Tour is weird, feels stiffer than HG and if the tension drops a bit has a weird pingy noise almost like you're not using a dampener even if you are.

Looking at a lower gague, but Kirachbaum Max Power rough seems to stack up very similarly to HyperG. Wonder how those compare.

Have both, Lynx Tour in a Head Graphene Speed Pro and Hyper G 16L Soft in an Ezone 100 and def. prefer Hyper G for feel, pocketing and power (after broke in after an hour). Luckily both inexpensive so very easy to try out both.

Just wish HG had a secondary color (black, any shade of gray, even natural), simply so it's a bit less than totally obvious from 50 yards away that you're yet another guy playing HG... I know that's the intended marketing in and of itself, but it's still annoying, to me at least. /soapbox

Both are excellent strings. Both are heavy strings and have a very meaty, full bodied feel on contact. Both are quite resistant to notching.

Surprised to hear this. Is Hyper G "soft" more powerful than regular Hyper G? Because regular Hyper G is very low powered. Regular Hyper G is definitely no more powerful than Lynx Tour.

I never liked Hyper-G. It felt cheap if that means something. Will try Lynx Tour, heard decent things about it.

I am trying out Head Lynx Tour 1.25 in my new Ezone 98 (2022). Used to play with Hyper G Soft, but the quick tension loss became a problem. I like the Lynx Tour. It has a predictable response and good touch.

But has anyone tried it in 1.20 mm? I wonder if it might give me a little more zip and spin and feel. And a reel of 1.20 mm is on sale right now, which got me wondering...

There is no such thing as lynx tour 1.20. At least publicly. If there is please post the link.

Out of interest; when you say it will significantly affect swingweight, what nr’s are we talking about?

I played both and agree they have a very different feel (with Lynx Tour on top for me).

Hm, I understand. It's a hassle posting pictures here and I don't want to post a link to a competing website. But they must have made a mistake. The image of the reel says 1,25 mm, I noticed, but when I clicked to add it in my items I could only choose 1,20 mm. Mistake on their part, I guess, if it doesn't exist.

Others seem have noticed the 1,20 mm existing now, as well. So I just ordered a reel. If it is real (!), I'll let you know.

I never tried Hyper G but i liked the Lynx tour 1.25 quite a bit but i'm waiting for the !.20 as well as someone, a while ago here on the forum, mentioned it would be release. Maybe that member was from Europe.

I had my first session on hardcourt with the LT 1,25 mm today. (Only played with it on clay up to this point.) And it was a very different experience. I could not get proper pace on my shots, or spin either. Maybe it was just one of those days but I'm cutting them out since I have a tournament coming up. Back to ugly Hyper G Soft for now.

I have never tried a 1,20 mm string. How much difference does it usually make, compared to 1,25 mm? I'm guessing not huge but anyway...

I thought the same as the OP when I saw the specs. But both strings play differently. I like Hyper-G better and Soft much better.

Why you didnt like it? Meaning compard to 1.25.
I never tried the 1.20 mm. But when I restrung with Hyper G Soft I tried a different tension (48/46) and felt so at home and happy that I just said screw it, LT is not for me, regardless of gauge. Could be good, I don't know, but I figured I like softer setups so I sold the reel to a friend who really likes the string.

Next move, though, is to find a string that is pretty much exactly as Hyper G Soft but with a better color. Any leads?

Lynx Tour 1.20mm soon to be released. The weight should be more equal with a standard 1.25mm string. This will alleviate the higher swingweight problem some have experienced with the heavy 1.25mm version.
Here's a list of Head Poly strings I have weighed. 1.20mm Lynx Tour not included as yet.

Weighed 12meter lengths of 17G 1.25mm Head Poly strings. Listed lightest to heaviest.

Sonic Pro Edge 18.5g
Sonic Pro 19.9g
Lynx 19.95g
Lynx Edge 20g
Hawk Touch 20.6g
Lynx Tour 22g
Hawk 22.3g
