Dose anyone find Laver Cup strange

I find it awkward, uncomfortable to watch. I watched five minutes today and saw fifty fist pumps and come on, players look more pumped than when playing a slam. Who are they kidding?

Nice try. I have seen pretty of players go through the emotions or retire easily and tank at ATP and GS matches. Did you see the next edition of the Laver Cup will be held in Chicago and USTA is involved?

they should just have NATO vs Warsaw Pact
Nice.
Or keep it europe vs rest of the world if we can haz murray. Brexit and all.
Globalist shills versus conspiracy gnostics.
Intellectuals versus blue collar. Hipsters vs bros.
Attackers versus defensive players.
Blonde vs brown hair?
Twenties vs thirties.
How about anglo vs other languages? Delpo would join the other languages team with raf, Sascha, dominic, cilic, berd, et al. Roger comes to the anglo team because his mother is from SeouthEffrriga. See?

Ok, silly. The teams are divided just fine. Compelling event. I am enjoying it despite the overly corporate feel. The LED banner of a mercedes benz pickup truck is not quite as cool as a tiny slaz sign and a jag by the serve speed display.

I am in for 2018 Laver Cup, Chicaugo, Illinois.

Hi @Surion
Sorry but I was replying to the topic by giving my opinion about the Rod Laver Cup.
As I explained in another topic, I don't fancy this exhibition for the reasons I gave already, and wish Roger Federer could be fresher for the rest of the year to end as the world number 1 (which I believe he will do anyway). Anyway, I find this exhibition fake, and I hate fake in general.
Why do you like it?

What the hell?
Why fake?
Just watch it, it's not an exhibition.

It's a lot of fun, simple.

Fair enough. If you felt offended by my previous message, then I apologize, it was not my intention.

Save your breathe. Federer has his priorities in the right place. I am a Federer fan and I have called many a Fed fan out for being so self-centered. Thank god Federer isn’t that self-centered, it would be terrible for the game. Most want Federer to be no. 1 to gloat and that’s not always good as a fan. Federer didn’t win the US Open, I moved on. Fed has a good head on his shoulders and Mr. Laver is lucky.

One set of doubles. The whole scoring system is the thing I don't get. I believe the win total is 7/4 in favor of Europe but the world is somehow still alive.

Oh gee another close match, Nadal loses LOL. That should make the overall score much tighter for a nail biter finish. Too bad, this had the potential of being a good tournament if it were real.

Only people with Tennis Channel can watch it and no bars have Tennis Channel so basically here in Cabada nobody can watch it without paying specifically for that channel.

That's the strange part. They don't even want the audience. Appears only for the Sultans.
I don't know where Cabada is but in Canada, it's been on TSN 3.

Dude, really!?

Give it up. Your conspiracy theories are ruining a great day of high quality tennis.

You've clearly never played a team event. It looks different than an individual event because you have team mates to energize you. Doesn't mean it's all fake. It's different and fun. Watch the Ryder cup sometime. Looks entirely different than the Masters. Doesn't mean it's fake golf.

Team tennis is something the sport could use. This compressed format is far better than the Davis Cup if you ask me.

What conspiracy theory? Exhibitions have always been fake. This is no different. Do you really believe Sampras actually beat Fed after being retired so many years? LOL. Grow up man.

TSN3 eh? Shame nobody knew about it. Certainly no ads for it. TSN1 and TSN4 are the standard while TSN2 is premium. TSN3 rarely shows anything on its own but my mistake.

I mean Team Europe and Team World? Really, the concept of Laver Cup seems to condescend by equaling Europe with World especially considering Rod Laver is an Australian.
If the concept is to dumb down tennis to unprecedented lows, they're doing a really good job. Next up: bringing seals onto the court in between games to spin a world globe on their nose under thunderous applause. Can't wait. Cirque du Soleil should start worrying...

This is what Noah meant by : with tennis players, it is all just an act.

He said that like 30 years ago.

i will save this post and paste it until all people read eventually

what an incredible event this turned out to be, considering that its only 3 days long, i was very afraid at the beggining of the year when fed said he wold play, me thinking that instead ot playing and event for points, he would swap it for this one, but this was so great and the sport as a whole has benefitted inmensenly.

sometimes there are more important things than points and money, and that is the sport itself (sounds redundant), money and prizes are one way to make it grow but there is also the general prestige of the sport itself and speacially the ones who have done their part in the past, including the great laver, and what a better way to honor his legacy than to have an event that players commited to not because of points, but because of the name, remember that he helped inspire many players you see today to become who they are, what if he never existed and fed or rafa didnt have that heroe to look up to? as time goes it becomes more challenging to remember the past, and its great that we remember this man while he is still alive as the contrary is the usual, so dont bash it so hard, its important to honor those who have done things in the past to shape the present, heck what if one day in 20 years we get a fedal cup or something like that, so i have to say again that this weekend was extraordinary for the sport, more thn the players themselves and i think the event will grow more as time goes

Team Europe was hella stacked. Fedal, Thiem Zverev, Cilic and Berdman. Just imagine if it were Fedal, Novak, Stan, Zverev, and Thiem. Get rekt son!

I think if Team World included Kei and Donaldson, they would have a better chance.

I thought it was a great, fun event. The Ryder Cup in golf is a huge tournament. I don't blame tennis for trying to create something similar.

With the third set being a tiebreaker, it's an exibition designed not to be too taxing for the stars. Nadal and Federer playing doubles together! I'm sure that was worth the cost of admission alone.

No, it was not.

There are a ton of (better) doubles matches that can be watched for far less money and they will be real matches.

People that pay that sort of money are being duped, but that is their problem, since nobody is forcing them to spent that much for non tennis.

However, that hype has to stop.

If this was the first tournament, attendance for the few years will tell if people feel they're getting a fair return on their money.

The only thing it will tell is how deep in **** the people's idea of money and entertainment has descended.

Those were not corporate boxes at a big venue of a prestigious tournament (the prices were also not quite there too, but you get the idea).

$400 (if true) is a ridiculous amount of money for a ticket for a session at a serious tournament, let alone for an exo with weird rules.

Enough with prestigious tournament crap. This is just the first year of the Laver Cup, at least let it get off the ground before calling it crap. Another thing it is not an exhibition. That word is thrown around to discredit an event that certain factions don’t like too see flourish. There is nothing weird about the rules of the Laver Cup. No one tried to understand those so-called weird rules because then that way they can again discredit the event. The rules and score system create competition up until Day 3. The winner wasn’t determined until the last match of Day 3. Remember when the narrative about how Europe was going to crush RoW and that didn’t happen. There are always going to be corporate boxes at events because these events need those corporate sponsors. These events don’t run on free.
