She had a warning for throwing a racquet, then had a point taken away after another outburst, then threatened to shove a ball down the line judges throat and kill her. She still finished the match.
She bargained for a $180k fine and two years of good behavior so she could play the next grand slam. The fine was held until after the two years, which was then reduced to like $80k.

Zvev was fined $40k and had to give up the prize money he won of $30k, so $70k total.

About the same overall, but with less drama.
 
What Zverev did was the equivalent of shooting a few rounds between the umpire’s feet and asking him to dance. What Serena did was verbal violence and intimidation. Which one is worse? It’s probably Serena’s because it’s not ok to threaten line judges. Umpires, however, are fair game in my opinion. They are never innocent.
 
People get hooked up with these arguments because they don't understand intent. One person could rob a bank and another person does the same, but they receive separate punishments. This is because of the intent involved and the level of remorse, which the judge can see.

She's certainly got a point.

If she'd ranted like Medvedev, she would've got harsher punishment. And TTW two faced posters that applauded Med (you know who you are) would berate her.

If she'd done a Zv, she would've been dealt with very harshly.

Nah, she has no point, because she said "jail".
If she had a point she'd have said something that made sense....

not to mention his was just an atp 500 doubles match and got kicked out of singles, and hers was big USO televised final,.
and what he did was AFTER the match

Although it's wrong to smash the racket at the umpire chair leg, but he didn't try to hit the umpire(assuming that you think he did). Nobody got hurt.

Both outbursts between Serena and Zverev were verbally abusive toward the umpire plus unsportsmanlike conduct. Who's voice and choice of word were more vicious depends on your observation.

$17K is a hell a lot more than a $40K fined

Watch at 1:00 when he starts hitting the chair. The umpire moves his foot upwards but he could keep his foot in the same place and he wouldn't get hit. Zverev made sure not to hit the umpire.
 
So the troglodytes are amplifying their favorite grievance against the Black female BOAT while conveniently leaving out the fact that the alleged GF abuser came within inches of hitting the umpire with his racquet. Is any reasonably educated grown-up surprised to see their knees jerking?

Anyhoo Re does seem to be overreaching here, but nowhere near as much as her grievance-addled detractors that refuse to acknowledge the real double standards she's had to face. In other words, another day in the life of a successful Black woman.

That precisely is the problem. As a young 'un with a prolly diverse group of friends you don't think race (or gender) is much of an issue, but it is. Successful White people generally don't inspire this level of grievance.

Zverev’s bad behaviour doesn’t negate hers.
I’ve no doubt she has faced double standards at times but she doesn’t come from a place of virtue here, that’s the problem.

True, but I don’t think the counter to that is to show more pity for successful black people. Just treat them the same. Or at least try to.
 
Since everyone wants gender equality let's bring back bo5 matches for the WTA. Previously, they were bo5 matches at Virginia Slams. Equal pay for equal work. How well would Serena compete in bo5 matches at her age? Actually, threatening a lines judge in some states would be classified as 3rd degree menacing (misdemeanor). Will prosecutors enforce it? I've seen people get arrested for far less.

LOL, I call everyone names, even my buds and allies. It's (usually) not meant to be taken seriously.

And trust me, I'm no fan of Serena's most egregious behavior and poor sportsmanship. (In fact among modern players Berdych is pretty much the only one who annoyed me as much.) That doesn't mean I can't see the ugly undercurrents that inform much of the criticism against her.

I don't pity her or any other gazillionaire who seems comfortable in her own skin. And though I've mellowed on her she's still not one of my faves. Just saying we shouldn't be too quick to dismiss her charge of discrimination (either kind).

Yes there will always be those who are biased in their criticism of her. Conversely there are those who criticise because there is good reason to do so. We can’t just dismiss all critics as racist. It’s a lame argument and long term doesn’t help. I prefer to judge each incident on its merits.

Lmao, Serena took something that isn’t about her at all, and a reaction by a governing body that has nothing to do with women’s tennis, and made it about her.
