Excellent! Now we can watch the scramble unfold for Nadal and Djokovic and who will get theirs first. Dr Federer, we salute you. At least Murray won this one. Surely Sir is a notch above El Doctoro? Djokovic will probably win this the moment we have to start addressing him as Mister President? Nadal...who can predict what will be?

You are underinformed, Fed devotee. Rafa received an Honorary Doctorate from the European University of Madrid
already 9 years ago - in May 2015! He received it in recognition of his sports achievements and values of effort, respect, cordiality and exemplary [Google translation]. He was nominated at the request of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport of the University.

I plead guilty, underinformed indeed. Was raising children those years. Not devotee of Federer. Have always been in awe of Nadal.

I wonder why you copied my 3.5-year-old reply to a Fed devotee from an old thread and pasted it in this thread.

I've wondered about this Doctor of Humane Letters ever since they awarded one to Bill Belichick at my daughter's graduation from Wesleyan (from which Belichick had also graduated)

It's the closest he'll ever have to a graduation, I guess. That's what these tennis players are deprived of.

Thousand times better than some rotten politician pretending to care about students future

For me, the only Dr. is Dr. Ivo.
While VAMOS was jet skiing in Mallorca and Egg was dealing with his mental breakdown Roger was impressing the folks at Dartmouth with his learning. I would appreciate if you give Roger the respect he’s earned by referring to him as Dr. FEDR or a suitable variation on FEDR along with the honorific title.

Just calling him FEDR is enough upgrade. We've been calling him Fedr for years.

He did it so you can wonder why.

Yes hello, here's Djokovic devotee!

I appreciate the heads up on this. From now I will refer to both players as Dr Federer and Dr Nadal respectively, and also formally observe Andy Murray’s knighthood when addressing him.

Rafa is 'His Excellency' Don Rafael Nadal Pareira ;)8-B equal to British knighthood

'His Excellency' Rafael Nadal: Top sporting merit for tennis legend

BEYOND even the Princess of Asturias Award – Spain's answer to what would be a Nobel Prize for Sport – the Great Cross of the Royal Order for Sporting Merit is every athlete's or player's Holy Grail, and only a handful ever achieve it. It's not automatically presented every year, being completely discretionary and exceptional, and anyone who receives it is henceforth addressed as His or Her Excellency when it comes to official protocol.
And there are no prizes for guessing who has been granted it this week.

“I've left for the end [of the Parliamentary session] the announcement that gives this Council of Ministers, and me, as spokeswoman, the greatest pleasure – that I have just granted the Great Cross of the Royal Order for Sporting Merit to our tennis player Rafael Nadal,” said treasury minister María Jesús Montero

Federer is doing this because Tony Godsick and Mary Jo’s daughter Isabella attends Dartmouth College.
