Dragonball Fans: Since we like to compare tennis players to Dragonball characters would you say that Novak Djokovic is the Lord Beerus of Tennis

Yh Super is godawful. The amount of absolute stupidity, contradictory **** that happened in Super is mind blowing and it's supposed to be canon. Even most of the fights were bad.

Weak era of Dragonball.

But it does have one of the GOAT moments across the entire DB which was this:

The only part I liked was Android 17 being prominent. Would have been epic if he was prominent earlier, like in Z the same time as 18. One of my favorite characters personally.

Super 17 was the only GT thing I liked too lol

Well standard DBZ comparisons would have Fed as Goku and Rafa as Vegeta, though it doesn't hold as well now since Vegeta could never get close to surpassing Goku and Rafa is now so close to overtaking Roger. 2017 gave the impression that both had reached Super Saiyan Blue and I hate Dragonball Super.

Pre 2011 Djoker was probably Tien at best. Then after a substantial amount of 'gluten sensei beans' he all of a sudden becomes Perfect Cell. Rafa's struggles against him in 2011 reflects Super Vegeta VS Cell in the perfect Cell saga. Right now tennis is waiting for a young Gohan to take the game to the next level at Super Saiyan 2

Broly is dumb though, Novak is pretty smart dude.

He ain't Piccolo cause Piccolo can't beat Goku and Vegeta and he got lost in the shuffle after the Planet Namek arc.

Piccolo was relevant until the Cell Games saga and then sadly became comic relief after. Super's treatment of him was awful.

I'd go one saga further and say Cell was the true end (before it devolved into nonsense with the Buu saga and all the other non-canon spinoffs like GT or even the canon continuation in Super).

Goku = Federer: the protagonist beloved by all who achieved legendary SSJ power no one thought possible
Cell = Nadal: the genetically perfect specimen that rolled through everyone and even legendary SSJ Goku could not stop
Gohan = Djokovic: always around as a near top fighter but constantly in Goku's shadow, but eventually surpasses both Goku and Cell and becomes Earth's mightiest warrior as the only SSJ2

Yes DBZ was pretty much a masterpiece up to the Cell Games arc. Unfortunately instead of progressing with Gohan being the main hero, the series reverted back to Goku becasue the fans couldn't let go. Buu was a poor villain after Freiza & Cell lacking any compelling motivation. Plus with all the Super Saiyan 3 and Fusions, things had clearly reached expiration point in terms of storytelling.

True after such a long wait Super was a massive disappointment. Just a recycling of parts from the previous series.

Toryiama wanted to end it with Frieza. It makes sense because there's only one Super Sayan every 1,000 years and it was Goku.

Ya I know and that would have been a decent end point too. Frieza Saga was great, but I was just saying Cell Saga was incredible so I'm glad he extended it. The story Toriyama built there about Gohan's hidden potential as a hybrid sayians and Goku dying for good with Gohan taking over was really well done, even if it wasn't originally part of the plan. Unfortunately though Toriyama could only come up with 1 great arc off the cuff like that, and the following Buu saga was god awful.

The Cell saga (especially with the Android lead up with future Trunks) is epic af 8-B

Agree, I think its easily the best saga in the DB universe and probably a top 10 arc in all of anime.

I actually think Vegeta should've been the hero in the Buu saga the arc was setup perfectly from him to complete his character. Best part about the Buu arc was Vegeta's sacrificing himself against Buu after ****ing things up, it was the only meaningful thing but they should've gone a step further and made him the actual hero and defeated Buu instead of Goku. Goku had zero connection to that arc other than to just be strong lmao

Goku had his development in the Frieza saga.
Gohan had his development in the Cell saga.

Vegeta should've had his in the Buu saga.

Exactly, the Buu saga basically undid all of the story telling of the Cell saga and SSJ3 Goku made what Gohan had to go through to reach SSJ2 and his hybrid lineage completely irrelevant. On top of that as u said Buu was a fairly garbage villain. After SSj2 Gohan vs Cell, the show basically is just about hype fights and inexplicable power ups without any coherent plot or story telling so if you take it like a Transformers Movie and watch just for the action instead of a good story it can still be alright, but there are far better animes compared to post-Cell DB.

Buu arc sucked because there was no one to really get behind.

Goku vs Frieza, Gohan vs Cell there was connections, motivations and actual stakes. Buu was comic relief, filler but if they pitted Vegeta as the arc's hero then things could've been different, going from Majin Vegeta at the beginning to the hero at the end.

Why you trying to get on my girl Kefla, she was cool as ***** and one of the best opponents of the series. She was the only character that managed to get Goku back on the same mental level that he was during Dragonball Z, not that brain damaged meathead he became in Super.

Piccolo was relevant until the Cell Games saga and then sadly became comic relief after. Super's treatment of him was awful.

Yeah, you are right his last great moment was during the Cell Games cause that fight with #17 was pretty good but I felt that they did him dirty after he merged with Kami cause he was suppose to be SSJ strong with Kami.

Yes they screwed up not giving the torch to Gohan, DBZ in the early years was being build up to make him the next hero then after the SSJ transformation with Goku people lost their freaking minds and never allowed breathing room.

Nadal is a huge fan of DBZ and his favourite character is goku:)

@Sephiroth

That was one of the reasons he got me back into the men's side of tennis after Aggasi. During the early/mid 2000's I was paying attention more to the women's side.

Fed is great don't get me wrong but when I found out that Nadal like DBZ, I was like let me check this young man out.

There have been so many potential young Gohan's but none have come through yet.

Thiem reminds more of a Future Trunks now at this stage in his career. He is stronger than his Dad but afraid of showing how strong he really is off of fear of being rejected and saving his dad's pride. Thiem can really match Rafa on clay but he does not want to fully show what he can do out of respect of Rafa.
