DST

How many people hate it as much as I do?

And why do we even have it these days in the US? :(

I feel so off tonight.

My watch says it is nearly 4 AM, but I don't even feel a little tired. Tomorrow is going to be hell.

I don't get why America switches to DST a good 2 weeks before us. My colleague completely forgot about the switch and was an hour late for his conference call with the NYC office haha

Definitely helps the biological cycle in summer though. In June, the sun rises at 4:30 and sets around 21:30. If we didn't move forward 1 hour, we'd have to deal with 3am morning suns (not ideal for most people)

I was part of a development team for a navy system that uses GPS time (basically GMT), but someone brought up displaying local time as well. Between different areas switching to/from DST on different dates, some islands being 15 or 30 minutes off, etc., we decided it wasn't worth trying the programming expense.

Florida passed a bill last week keeping DST year around. Has to go to congress for approval first. I'll be pissed if it passes.

I don't mind either getting rid of DST or keeping it year around, but wish it was the whole country and not just a state here or there. Screws a lot of things up

It's the classic seasonal thing that people complain about, but which will never change because people always adjust and stop caring again before a critical mass for change can ever be achieved.

The date of Australia Day here in Australia is another example. It's controversial for some, but as soon as the day is over each year nobody cares any more until next year. So unless those who want it changed can push through the change entirely within the week or so each year that it's in the public consciousness, it will never change.

Putting Easter on a fixed date is another example. Will never happen.
