Have any of you noticed that in posts, reviews, etc. how many are commenting on how the entire Biomimetic line feels different. Some call it "boardy," some use "stiff", and others say "crisp."

The point is—regardless of whether we like or dislike the new line—there seems to be a fair amount of agreement on how it feels.

been playing with my old ag200 16x19 recently and then switched back to the 4d100 and man i had to spent time getting used to serve again. i was framing the first like 10 balls. then added 2g to the butt and swings more freely. love it. really 1 2 give the euroBIO100 a test.

u and me both...but currently content with the modded 4D100. think the Bio100 might need a little modding.

I'm currently using NRG2 16 on my 4D100 and feel like I'm sailing a lot of balls on my ground strokes, but feel really underpowered on my serve.

Perhaps I should look into a powerful poly like Black Magic? Or maybe just add some lead? Maybe just get better?

not a lead modder here (always played stock) but figured why not. now with 3-4 grams at 12 and 2 g at 3&9 along with poly syngut hybrid, the rest is up to the player. now just trying to get better since the equipment is 98% dialed in. :)

My final verdict on the Bio 100 ...

It's a good racket, but we don't match, inspite of trying to adjust using various means. Goodbye.

I'm back holding tight to my Redondo.

Amen.

Not enough power on first serve was my problem also when i started with this stick. If you haven't done any modifications except adding overgrip, then 1,5+1,5g @ 3/9 fixed this problem for me. If you don't want to mess with lead and still want to know does adding the lead will work for the serve, then remove overgrip (its about 4g) and you will see, that this way serves have more power. The added lead will counterbalance the overgrip and the serve will be more powerful. Stick will also be much more stable on wolleys and groundstrokes. Try the overgrip thing and decide then. I cant play without lead enymore.

Haven't played with nrg2, but with poly (23/22kg) the controll is great and balls will stay on court.

I messed around with the racket where I added leather grip... not for me. @ this point my favorite is setup is the one I recommended to GrandIllusion.

Thanks for the advice kybb. I added lead @ 3, 9, and 12 and hit about 30 serves yesterday, and it really seemed to click. Big flat serves were a pleasure to hit, and kick serves had lots of motion.

Still felt like I was sailing a lot of groundies, so I'm going to try out a full bed of Polystar Energy and see how the elbow reacts to it. Thanks again, kybb.

Some work. Some don't. That's why we try new sticks.

Thanks for reporting your views along the way...

Dampener,

My son said he's gonna use the Bio 100 "for practice" because you've got hit it dead center to get the right feel and performance. This will force him to concentrate more. That's turning a crisis into an opportunity. Good thinking from a young teen.

Indeed. So why the heck isn't he posting?

Actually, a number of teaching pros subscribe to that line of thinking. Players frames, they contend, force you to learn proper technique. But I'm certain you already know that.

I'm glad I started playing tennis back when most all frames were "player's" type frames, (I didn't get any formal lessons/training, just played recreationally before and after school and at the park).

The 4D100's sweetspot seems large compared to a Wilson T2000.

really enjoying this frame with the mods and string setup. the feedback is great when striking the ball.

No new comments on either versions of the BM100?

Curious.

Maybe it's early, but I suspect the Biomimetic is not being as well received as the past 100 releases.

Am I wrong? Anyone?

Meanwhile back on the 4D, I strung up one of my trusty sticks as low as I've ever gone before. I went 42 on my 18g mains and 44 on my 18g nylon. And it still works fine. You can really push this frame on the low end...if you're so inclined.

Damp, totally agree. I was stringing my 4D100s @ 39 and could hit sweet shots. No lack of control.

wow that's really low...won't rush home to try that tension anytime soon.

the 4D100 is hitting sweet for this old school player. those other competitor models that are uber flexy just don't cut it even with a mid size head.

that said a few in the Bio line have me looking...but the party is still going strong at 4D100. :)

Likewise. Tried the 200 Lite (didn't like). Tried the 300 Tour (liked but wanted to try it with a better string job). Tried the US 100 (didn't like but want to try again with better strings. Still want to demo the the Euro 100 and the 400 Tour.

the 300 Tour and 400 Tour look intriguing. wouldn't mind tinkering with string setups and such with both for a while.

Hey uh, anyone got a blx90 as well?

After getting used to the 4d100 the flex in my blx90 seems to makes it really hard to control shots, anyone experiencing anything similar?

yes think the increased power in other mid size racquets (non 4D100) require higher string tension to tame and still exhibit some loss of control.

I agree about the 4D100 being low powered, but for me it's the feel. I just never feel any trampoline at all, even strung at 49 lbs, have found a great string combo for the racquet in Cyberflash 1.25/Dunlop Hexy Fiber 16, and it feels like an extension of my arm.

After two months with the racquet, I just haven't found anything to dislike about it. I have none of the hesitation that 3 years of trying to play with 95-98 inch frames had left me with, and it makes me happy.

Just a great stick.

agreed...a great stick...tho not for the lazy.

So my journey with this stick is ending. I got 3 Rev 200 MP-s and will play with them for a while. So, if interested for 2 4d 100 then contact me.

They played best for me with full poly @ 23/22 and 2+2g in 3/9.

has anyone noticed the buy one get one at the TW euro for the bio100?

just because 49lb is a low tension number doesn't mean your gonna get that affect. 49lb on a 90^2 in. racket is pretty stiff, about the same as my 98^2 in. at 56lb.

*EDIT*

yes.. me too. i tried out my friends blx90 about a month ago for like 5min and felt i had no control. too much flex. not complete out of control but it was pretty comfortable. i'd rather have a softer string bed than a softer racket (mostly).

I'm new to Dunlops, been a Head user for decades. But, the specs on the AG100 have been intriguing me lately (and the price!)

What are the differences between the 4D & non-4D AG 100s?

I can second bc's impressions with the added opinion that those differences are very subtle.

I've played with (and still own) both frames for years and contend that if you blindfolded me, and made me play with one or the other, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

However, I don't recommend this approach. With a blindfold on, ball contact becomes a huge issue.

No. No matter how high I string 95 and 98's, there's always some trampoline, right up to the point that the string beds are dead and unusable.

After trying for two years, I have decided that I just hate the way all stringbeds larger than 90 feel. I also disagree on your estimate that 98 at 56# feels even remotely like 90 at 49#, because my personal experience is that it's not even close.

Just picked up 2 of the older AG100s and took them for a very short test drive. Based on what I have read about this frame in this thread, I would say the frame is very user friendly and I am quite sure it can be used by 4.0 and up with decent strokes and med to long strokes. The frame plays very nice at lower tension. No way it could be used @ 60 lbs. I would think 50-52 would be great for natty gut and higher end multis. Polys.. I would be 45 lbs max. I was impressed with the frame. I have not played a live match at this point. The thing does shine on the serve... wow..............

haven't got the AG100 dialed in yet (strings, etc) but have the 4D100 dialed in. didn't double fault once that i can remember in match play last time out. still bouncing around trying other racquets but this one performs the best thus far in match play for this player.

Can you share some of your string set ups.. and mods... Thanks!!!

I am getting a better test tonight. Few sets of singles... and some drilling..

Thanks BC,

Got to really give my two AG 100s a workout tonight. One is strung with a co-poly @ 48, the other with IsoSpeed Professional @ 54. The co-poly was really my fav. Got the best power, spin and control with that set-up. Great feel and ball action. Played both frames stock. The IsoSpeed was just underpowered and lacked feel... very muted. The specs of the AG 100 are not that far from my normal frame outside of the head size 90 vs 100. My results were not quite as good as usual vs one of my regular partners (as expected). I have to say, quite happy with my play with this frame. There was no lack of power, control was excellent and of course the flat serve was as reported. My slice serve was quite effective, but my kicker sat up more than normal. In general I am a Dunlop guy.. so I was very happy with feel and touch of this one. I could win matches (and did) with this frame. I will be interested to see how this one works outside. I can see how this thread got so big...:-)

Nothing very noteworthy to say, just didn't want this thread to get too many pages back.

Quick update: I have been off tennis for 5 weeks now, in an air cast for PF. In the meantime, LA Fitness Bought out a bunch of Ballys and they are closing the one in our city, which will lock up a building with 6 indoor courts.

Sad, very sad! :(:(:(

Bigtime - sorry to read that. hope PF goes away soon. got some GR3s on sale at TW and feet are happy.

SteveI - glad to oblige.

btw - still having fun trying other sticks but nothing yet has bumped the 4D100 from top spot.

Glad to see this thread back on the first page. I just got done blacking out one of my 4D100s out of curiosity. It turned out better than I expected, minus a few imperfections here and there. I sanded, did two layers of primer, two layers flat black paint, and two layers of Clear Coat w/ Matte Finish.

Oooweee that looks sweet. I'm usually not too impressed with blackout and pj attempts on the forum, but this frame, with it's brassica and beam shape, looks sweet like this wig the leather grip. I'm tempted to do this with my AG100's now. Any word on how it affected the weight and feel of the racquet?

Haven't gotten the chance to hit with it yet, Djoker. I'm waiting for new grommets to arrive (I mistakenly tried to put the old ones back on)

As soon as I get the grommets in and string her up, I will let you know if there are any noticeable changes in weight, feel, etc.
