Dunlop Aerogel 4D 300 Tour & AeroGel 300 16x18

I have both. For me the Tour is unplayable without lead at 12.
16x18 is excellent as it is and even better with lead.
Stock to stock, 16x18 is MUCH better.

Does the 16x18 have as much control as the 4D (even customized)? Does the 16x18 pattern give you a little more pop on the ball?

Hmmmmm, very hard to tell because Tour was horrible in stock form. I put lead tape immediately and in customized form Tour is very good. One thing I can tell you for sure: with Tour you have to maintain high racquet speed/full swing all the time. If you slow down just a little bit you will loose all the pace instantly...

I had this problem also. Lead @ 12 (just 2-3 grams) made this racquet feel great. I just recently bought another one and strung it up with full poly, which I never use. It felt great without any lead. I guess the extra stringbed stiffness moved the sweet spot up a bit. Just something to consider...

BobFL, I hit with my new 16x18 this weekend and it is a nice racket. Seemed to find the swwetspot on most shots but did find some "deadwood" from timt-to-time. Was wondering if a little lead in the head would help stabilize my offcenter shots and perhaps improve the sweetspot. How much lead did you add to yours? did you add it to 12 o'clock or 10 & 2? Appreciate the advice.

I'd also like to know how much lead was added to the 300T @ 12.

Fantom, thanks for sharing that info. I'm currently using an hybrid setup with multi on crosses. I'll try one full poly stringjob as well, but not sure if I'll be able to stand playing without dampeners. I just hate them.

Cheers,

-dadozen

Here's my progression:

Demo from local shop:
1. Stock 4D300T w/ full multi - Way too much vibration and dead feeling
2. Added 2g lead @ 12:00 - The difference was like night and day. I knew I was on to something and purchased one used to mess around with.

My 4D300T:
3. Stock grip, 2g lead @ 12:00, Unique Big Hitter 12 mains (55), Gosen OG Sheep Micro crosses (58) - The racquet felt great. The stability and feel I was looking for, but lighter than my other frame (LM Radical Tour).
4. TW Leather replacement grip installed - Sweet spot moved back down.
5. Added 1g lead @ 12:00 - Back to what I like. I bought a second one used on the message boards.

My second 4D300T:
6: TW leather from the get-go, no lead, full SPPP 17 @ 56 - Feels even better than the other stick w/ lead and hybrid strings. More bite on the ball and more control.

The saga continues, but I'm having a ton of fun w/ this frame.

I'm using an hybrid setup poly x multi. I wonder if it's the multi that brings the vibration to the racquet, according to what you have described.

I'll try this week a full poly stringjob. Let's see if it brings some more magic;)

Thanks for the full info about your progression. It was really helpful for me:)

Hey guys, sorry for the necropost (but hey, at least I searched!). Just wondering if the M-Fil 200 16x19, AG300 16x18 and AG4D300T 18x?? are all built from the same mold??

The specs asside from the string pattern are very similar.

AG4D300T: http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Dunlop_Aerogel_4D_300_3Hundred_Tour/descpageRCDUNLOP-DAG3HT.html

Also, if anybody knows, which of the Tecnifibre TFights use this mold, I would love to know too.

Consider the AG 300 16x19 as well. It's too light in stock form, but it provides really good headroom for customisation. I bought one deliberately one grip size smaller than what I want and built up the grip using one of those heatshrink sleeves (c20g) and then went about adding lead in the throat and around the hoop.

The M-fil 16x19 and 4D300T share the same mold but not the 16x18 AFAIK. Other racquets from this mold are Tecnifibres 320 and 335 (pre-v02), any length and string pattern.

It's baffling why Dunlop has to continue to tinker with success. The AG 300 16x18 seemed like it had such a short run before it was replaced by the 4D. I remember TW sold it for a short while but you couldn't demo it.

I'm a recent convert of the AG300 16x18...I just love everything about this racquet...its a pity you can't get it that easily anymore :(

I have 2, AG300 16x18 that I'm willing to unload if anyone is interested. I posted for trade this past weekend, but its not showing up yet. I use the old 300 16X19, i like the 16X18, just not as much at 16X19

That sounds so tempting...if only I can afford it :( or rather if only my wife would let me...hehehe...

I haven't tried the 4D 300 Tour, but I'm playing with AG 300 16x18. All I can say is that the AG 300 16x18 is a great racket on stock form, but if you lead it up, it becomes an even better racket. I placed 6 grams of lead on the racket's shaft just to increase the racket's swing weight. It's now very solid and very crisp on ever hit (even mis-hits). It's stability has improved that heavy balls aren't hard to handle.

I just got two of these AG300 16X18 racquets, and I am excited to customize them.

I hear that they play well stock, but even better with lead. Can anyone suggest how much lead and where?

(I've done lead on my AG100 and AG500 Tour, but these puppies start out at 11.5 ounces stock, hence they should need a bit less.)

Any Dunlop AG customizers out there?

I have 3 16x18 back in 2009 and still kept one. 8g to 3/9, 15g to the handle and 3g to the v-throat, with gut hybrid, dampener and overgrip it came out around 365g and slightly 7 pts HL. But now I feel the 4D 200 Tour saved all the troubles. The 16x18 at that setup was really fun to play with but with controlable power.
