Dunlop CX 200 - what a gem!

And the same goes for such things like crime and rude people, no need to try to stop that either..
Are you suggesting that the government intervene and regulate grip sizes so that their legislative powers are in line with those that govern crime and rudeness ?

Can anyone confirm whether the grip sizes run true to spec or do they run big. For example does a 1/2 feel like a 5/8 or true to what a 1/2 should be or smaller.
bare pallet on my CX200 measures the same around as my Wilson Hyper Pro Staff 6.1, Head Extreme Tour, and Prince Phantom Pro 100. Smaller than a Yonex EZone 98+ (but all Yonexes run large).

H*ll yes. If they drop the CX 200 to $99, that's just an automatic trigger pull for two (at minimum) and TW's matching service. :happydevil:
I bought my 2022 CX200 Limited Edition on the big auction site from a very random seller for 99 figuring it might be a scam, but it was shipped from a Dunlop warehouse in South Carolina. Went back to see if they had more and the seller has disappeared. Hmm ...

I am selling my CX 200 in 4 1/4 grip if anyone is interested. Barely used. I am in Canada.

I bought 2 of the black limited edition CX 200 18x20 Tours from that seller. I have really liked how they play so far.

Um well, please refer to your previous correspondence in this thread, I asked a general question about whether Dunlop grips ran true to size, or whether they are larger or smaller. Other posters answered correctly, you responded in an an unrelated manner. This is the racquet section of the forum.

Freedom of speech.. Sorry if you are a bit sensitive or if you took offence.. just want to make light work of ways of seeing things... We all need to get a grip.

Don’t worry Chris, others have already answered my question. Thanks for your positive contribution, and advice.

I definitely enjoyed it for the few minutes I hit with it, I was just concerned about the tight crosses in the long run.
I think we are seeing other companies move towards a tighter middle and more open top string patterns. Science is science when the stroke is flatter you hit the dead middle more often with slightly less spin so the ball would need to launch lower. When you swing with more spin you tend to hit the ball slightly higher up the hoop with a higher launch angle optimal. The short of it is, if you trust in that you will never think about the string pattern and if you dont then any miss you will attribute to it.

Please show me an other example of this kind of pattern of crosses. Only I know is 6.1 95 16x18 which has pretty similar one but not as exaggerated as in CX 200 98, and they both have exactly the same obvious problem - very unpredictable bed. If you play with a racquet many years, you might learn to deal with it, but it's not like stating it's the most optimal. Even intermediate level tennis puts you in situations where you have no time to hit with certain spot of the bed.

I tend to agree with overall assessments on this frame. I hit with it twice as a demo, once with full bed poly, once with a hybrid. Feel was good, power adequate, spin ok, control good in the centre. But there was an erratic response out of the sweet-zone, which was frustrating. I think if Dunlop updated it with just 0.5mm extra beam width, or some extra mass at 10 & 2, it could be a real gem.

Has anyone hit the Prince ATS Tour 98 enough to do a good compare/contrast w/ the CX200 (98 non-tour)? The specs on paper look very similar. I'm hitting the Prince and like it but a friend I grew up playing with swears by his CX 200's. He's won a handful of tournaments (USTA 4.5) since making the switch so it's working for him. TIA for any insight. - KV

So you tried for a few hits and immediately didn’t like it? What was it that you didn’t like?

I had demoed it before. I knew what it was. I just found 2 other racquets that suited my game more. It is a special racquet. I preferred it over the Blade, the Pure Strike, the Clash and the Prestige Pro - I added lead which it really needs. It felt like a Rostock hairpin to me stock if I am honest. Plus I love the handle shape. I like the brand - sleeper frames. Not knock on the racquet. I am equally happy to keep it.

I played a bit with the CX200 Tour with Focus Hex at 52, felt really great to me as well. If I didn't already have other rackets I love a lot (and if I wasn't a college brokie) I'd probably buy one

Sorry for not seeing this! As you said its not as extreme for other companies, but it is something they are advertising and putting into in terms of technology. The new Radicals are marketed with tighter spacing in the middle and more open towards the tip, the 2021 VCore advertised "Linear Drilling" which marketed the same technology/premise as the Dunlops.

My play test with cx200 is over. A hidden gen on hard courts but a difficult one if you don’t have the skills for clay court usage….. it doesn’t forgive and doesn’t provide enough free spin for clay sessions. Pop and free power are there…..it’s not a low powered frame. My best shots with it was serve/volley, serve 1+, slice down the line and returns. My most difficult shots were returning and putting spin on balls when i was on defence. I also noticed that outside sweet spot feel felt hollow but on clean hitting it was transforming to a solid heavy hitting machine.

@Blade_X - Good feedback. I tried a friend's CX 200 with Prince Syn Gut w Duraflex @ 55 and the feel was magical, but it only took 10 minutes to ascertain most of what you described. I had to resist awfully hard against pulling the trigger on a matching pair of black limited editions, but I knew deep down that I was probably headed for a 2018 VC95 type experience, where I could already tell I was going to want more defensive free power and forgiveness. That said, still a great stick for a player with enough brute strength, conditioning and skill level.

I'm sitting in the hospital (just had our 3 child) and wondering (yet again) if I should pick up a CX200 or CX200 Tour. Playing with the PT2.0 now, having demoed virtually every frame over the last year. Just got GPros too, but the CX200/Tour fit the bill of frames I tend to like.

They're up for refresh Q4 or '23 Q1 though. But the limited PJ is gorgeous

@Soundbyte - Solid points for being able to use post-childbirth as a thought incubator over which Dunlop CX 200 model to buy... :-D(y)

In all seriousness, congrats on #3 child by the way.

Haha thank you.

Im using the post childbirth as an excuse to purchase something I've been eyeballing for awhile.

I'm also awaiting all these Babolat Origin reviews that will be coming in shortly. Gotta scratch that tennis itch somehow!

I truly think its just a racquet that needs weight, stock is too "flimsy" for defense. Every person I give this racquet to with weight ends up loving it.

@MayorGorman - At what strung spec? (Static weight, balance and swing weight) And how/where do you customize? (Lead amount(s)/placement(s), leather, other materials). Thanks in advance.

350 Grams with a balance point of 31.5CM. 6inches of 1/4inch lead roughly at 9 and 3. Lead in handle and Leather replacement grip

Gotcha. Thank you. I would then presume a strung swing weight of in the low 330's?
Yeah I think anywhere from 330-336. Calculations were done with the tool so hard to know if its perfect. My stick is a little on the heavier side just for personal preference. But adding a leather grip and a few grams to 10 and 2 for a friend of mine made him love the racquet and he switched. Hes a former D1 player and made the switch from his Blade.

Curious on thoughts here of those coming from previously heavier racquets on the stability and power? Currently using Prince POG 100 or Phantom 100Gs weighted up around 12.1oz and SW probably near 325ish, and in some matches I just find the power to be low and weight can get cumbersome at times. How does the CX 200 hold up with heavier hitters? Also has anyone added a little weight at 10 and 2 on these?

100% needs lead. I added 8g under the bumper to get the SW up to 330ish strung.

What soundbyte said. Needs lead. I have a several of these frames from the 61ra revo, 62ra red, 63ra black, and 64ra red/black. I've been playing 62 and 64 versions stock and the 61 version with lead, but I need to customize them. Like a true 'holic I'm still playing with a plethora of frames 59ra - 64ra. Right now the cx tour, ultra tour/pro (similar with slightly bigger head and tighter pattern), and the vcore HD are still my sticks of choice. However, having said this, I got trashed by my new friend who wielded his RFA masterfully last night. :(

Having played with the Phantom 100G and Graphite 100 I am accustomed to putting lead at 10 and 2. Curious your level of play and can comment on the feel and if it can handle the 4.0 level of play with some customization. TW and most places do not have these frames on demo anymore and before I happen to just go for it and buying one trying to get best perspective on this frame.

Added about 5 g combined at 3 and 9 o’clock, and it seems to have evened the inconsistent bed.
My theory is that the added lead there forces those unproportionately dense midde crosses to stretch more.
Surprisingly it didn’t turn the sweetspot into an uncontrolled cannon.

I guess there are many great frames that are overlooked because of their stock form.

JBD I play at the 4.5 level. What do you mean if the frame can handle 4.0 level play? I would think it is the other way around?

How good are your returns? That's the acid test for frame size to me. Even some 97s or 98s are not so "big" due to elongated face. I would recommend putting some lead at 9 and 3 and some at the end of the butt cap. You can put some at 10 and 2 if you want. That's like 9 and 3 plus a little at 12. Only way to know and experience if you can play with a frame is to buy it (aside from demo-ing).

What are you looking for in a frame? I am looking for precision and the ability to play with syn gut when I choose to.

The ultra pro/tour v2/v3 are also great frames. They are similar in face except they are slightly more elongated for a bit more margin on return of serve. This is the second time I have bought this frame. I sold a few year last year due to the bulbous butt cap. Both of these frames have so much control you can hit with confidence, but you'll have to swing harder to get power.

Is there any CX 200 Limited Edition user here to advise on the type of strings that work well on these frames? Thanks!!!

Today without even trying it I bought a pair of CX 200 Limited Edition tempted by the price offered celebrating 100 year anniversary.
Waiting and praying to find the feel and ball pocketing of my trusted "Dunlop Srixon CX 2.0 16x19"

~~~~ I played with Dunlops for many years now, I recalled my Aerogels 300 as one of the first I had.
After the 300s Aerogel, I switched to the Biomemitec tour 300s (love this racquet). I one time another switched to Dunlop Sxrixon CX 2.0 16x19, these ones surprisingly to my bad habit of always looking for something else were with me for at least two years. I sold the CX 2.0s couple of years ago, since then I couldn't find any racquet that I can hit freely with.~~~~~
My big auction bay feedback over 400 shows my bad habit of buying and selling racquets in the search of the holy grail"
I use gut mains and alu power or poly tour rev crosses. I have the Tours, CX 2.0, older black with some red CX 200 and the current red with some black CX 200. Have em in both patterns and use the same setup in all. 44 lbs on 18x20 and 46 lbs on 16x19. Can’t wait to get a hold of the new CX 200 tours. The 16x19 string pattern has a much nicer spacing to me and the paint job is sweet!
Sounds about right...I think I needed something like 9 grams running the full length of the bumper to get the SW into a good range.
it feels similar to my friends unloaded radical pro graphene 360+. swingweight-wise. it still feels whippy overall. just felt a bit unstable with no lead imo.
