Dunlop CX 2024 line

@Notorious_Junkballer - Nice pickup. Not sure how I feel about the cosmetic, either, but, better get used to it, for it will likely carry over to the SX and FX. I could see two shades of blue looking decent on the FX, but not sure about two shades of yellow on the SX. Oh well, they made their bed. Now they get to sleep in it.

As for the most important part -- the playability -- curious if anything has really changed that much?

They ought to be a bit stiffer and the head shape is more rectangular - totally new mold says the guy on the video. And the string spacing is different too, no more extra tight crosses in the middle but more equally sized squares. Should increase pace and spin they say.

Interested to see how much more free power, room between 10 & 2 and consistency over the string bed area all of that combines to create.

TL;DR - In my opinion, Dunlop's "PowerGrid String Tech" drill pattern of having equally-spaced mains and centrally dense progressing to distally open crosses just doesn't bear enough fruit to make it worth it. You loose too much consistency between 12 and 6 than you gain between 9 and 3. So kudos to Dunlop for pulling back on that, even if only a bit. Sometimes bucking the trend isn't the wisest move.

I don't hate the color as the orange kind of pops next to the red and black and it's a color scheme you don't see a lot these days as there aren't many red racquets in general.

Pretty good point. Could be a case of looking better in real life than it does in online pics or even videos.

They're up on Dunlop's website. 2 points higher stiffness.

* I'm not sure about a new mold: do they actually seem wider at 10 and 2 a la FX or do the photos on the website playing tricks?

I guess the next question is when are they going to be released?

Assuming it's not coming to the states until 2024, which is too late for me as I'm on a self made racquetholic fix journey. Gotta decide on a frame in the next couple of weeks for almost all of 2024, but I love the outgoing CX 400 Tour quite a bit. If Dunlop increased the stiffness and the string spacing at the center, man I'm REALLY interested in the new CX 400 Tour. Especially since I think the current one is of the best racquets on market, period, but thought the spacing was a bit too tight in the middle.

Probably won't get to try it until end of next year, but excited to hear others thoughts in here when they get to try the updated line.

@curtstead - LOL, don't even think about it! Haha.

In all seriousness, the only real objective take-away from the video is you can definitely see how much more rectangular-cornered the head shape is up towards 10-11 and 1-2. Much beyond that, it's personal adjectives, "oh, it definitely has more speed!" and "it feels more solid!".... how many times have we heard than now after almost every silo update? I'm not doubting improvements, but I wouldn't fold your plans over these just yet.

This is 100% a new mold and complete new frame construction as they changed the architecture of the internal frame and the shape of the cross section. This will def cause a total change in playability is my guess add to that they changed the flex its now 65 like 2 versions prior, added new grommets that are supposed to soften up the frame and add the changed the drill pattern. It sounds like the opened it up a little. So it will be interesting so see how it feels. So whoever says oh it is just a paint job they dont know what they are talking about. We will have to wait and see. Not a huge fan of the increased flex I love the softer feeling frames but I will reserve judgement.

How would you compare the 400 Tour to Blade 100? A few reviewers have said they are very similar with maybe a bit more power on the 400T? Tempted to grab one at current runout prices!
Yeah, I would probably agree with that, although they are close. Not a massive difference in power. I also find spin generation and launch angle a bit easier with the Blade 100, while also still being able to flatten out with both. Both feel objectively great, Dunlop feel is fantastic on the CX line. The 400 Tour is fine on comfort, but it is noticeably a bit stiffer than the Blade 100. Blade feels SOOOO comfortable, one of the best I’ve played on the market.

Another thing I would add is because of the lower avg stock swingweight on the Blade 100, it’s a bit easier to platform and boost SW while the 400 Tour’s SW on avg is 6-7 points higher in stock form. So both are great for customizing, honestly think they’re two of the best platform sticks in the market, but the Blade slightly wins out there.

I’m nitpicking here, as you can’t go wrong with either of these. Fantastic time to get both price wise. However, if you’re set on the CX 400 Tour, it may be worth to demo the 2024 just to see if the slightly more open center makes a difference in playability just a bit, specially with power, spin, and launch angle.

Either way, very excited to see an update coming to one of the best frames on the market. The CX 400 Tour and Blade 100 are both awesome, you can’t go wrong with either, good luck on choosing!!

Haha, I’m not waiting man, don’t worry. I’m not trying it until December 2024, deadlines are deadlines :)

@curtstead why choose the CX400T instead of the CX200?
More forgiveness, power, spin. Easier to use. Not a huge drop off in control.

I feel similar about the Blade 100 compared to the Blade 98 as well. I honestly think they’re just better racquets, ALTHOUGH I will add I like the CX 200 significantly more than the Blade 98 V8. I just.. don’t like the Blade 98 v8 lol. Personal preference. I know many love it, and it’s all good!

I could never play with the Blades either just something about the head shape never really jived with me go figure. Always loved the Dunlops though loved the handle shape and the feel and control their CX Tour line always had. I have owned just about every iteration; the CX 2.0 is my favorite by far because it was the softest maybe I will like the new line time will tell.

Not a huge fan of the new PJ. If they’re going for minimalism I like the last PJ better. Wish that they would go back to the early 00’s with a buisier and glossy PJ. Also not sure how I feel about the increase in stiffness. Think I’m going to stick with my black edition Cx 200 18x20 tour’s for quite a few years to come.

I agree... I like the current paintjob rather the upcoming one. But I prefer the red-black colour scheme since my other rackets are quite dark colours.

Plus the new rackets is stiffer (higher RA), I'm not sure about that

Super glad I picked up a bunch of the outgoing cx 200 tour 18x20. I love the paint job and the feel (matte but slick feeling like the wilson PS/RFA v.10s). I'll be using these frames for the foreseeable future.
I don't dig the new version's colorway too much, but color is not the thing I am most concerned about. I guess it will be another few iterations before the softer frames come back.

yeah over the course of the last year and a half i bought 8 of the black cx 200 tour 18x20’s lol. prolly will use this racquet until I’m forced to change.

for those interested in the string spacing on the new cx 200 tour 16x19 (this image is publicly available on the dunlop japan site). The crosses are clearly less intensely concentrated in the center.

Yeah looks like bottom cross is much closer to the frame in the new version too.

Maybe a rounder headshape but hard to tell.

Interesting throat grommet change. Usually companies go the other way in terms of design, but I am happy to see the bumps back

Also 2 skips in the throat in the new model whereas the outgoing model has 1 skip in the throat. You definitely wont be using the same grommets in these.

The second pic here is the current 200 regular 98, not tour. different head shapes

Combined with added stiffness, this wide spacing should not lead to any loss of control. I’ve hit with the (old) FX500 Tour 98. I do not perceive any loss of control compared to CX200.

It will be impossible to tell how much more control or power the frame has till we hit with it. Look at what they did with the New Vcore 95. They lowered the flex by 4 points but they increased the string spacing quite a bit resulting in a higher launch angle and more power; didn't care for it. I usually like softer frames but not this one; their intent was to make it more user friendly and expand who could hit with it. In the process they took away some of the control aspects of it IMO. The word is it plays softer than the previous version even with the increased flex; the completely changed the frame architecture and molding and drill pattern and used new grommets as well. So we will see.

I never liked that chunky throat grommet. Was there a postulated benefit for such a design? The new version’s more streamlined design is a welcome change.

completely new mold and drill pattern. They put some serious engineering into this. They changed the frame architecture as well; which you will see if you watch the video. Have no doubt that will affect how the racket plays and feels combined with the new string spacing, flex and new grommet design. This should be interesting. Cant wait to try it. Despite the increased stiffness they say it plays the softest of all the iterations so we will see.

although technically more chunky it’s much sleeker looking. I’m not a fan of the bumpy grommet that they brought back.

I always look forward to any new Dunlop line. They always seemed to be well engineered, and the designs well thought out. There always seem to have one that fits most every player.

Hitting it with a swinging machine (and by a real person), 0.3%(1.6%) increase in speed and 0.9%(1.7%) increase in spin as compared with CX 2021 version
However, there are a lot of changes in technologies (they claimed and explained). Interesting ... 8-B

Very tempting to test the actual performance.

At the very least, for the last 2 generations of Dunlop frames (FX, SX, CX) I've kept up with, they have made significant changes from one gen to the next. Changes in string patterns, the more obvious ones along with other "techs" and changes in the molds themselves. Thumbs up for me, as Dunlop is on my to-do-list this year along with Prince.

This to me is the biggest change yet. The fact they changed the frame construction is huge as that will affect how the frame plays and feels for sure combine that will the new mold and string drill pattern should be very interesting. The fact someone said despite the increased RA it plays the softest of the bunch so far says something about the engineering they put into this frame. Cant wait to try it!

If you bothered to watch the video you would see it is a lot more than just a paint job. They pretty much redesigned the frame from the ground up, new frame construction, new mold, new drill pattern, some new vibration tech and new grommet system.
glad i dont like the grip shape, because it looks like they might have nailed it, and i dont need any more racquets

I also really like the cx 2.0 18x20. Too bad Dunlop doesn't keep making more of those, afterall I believe it is what kevin anderson used/uses. For now the cx 200 tour 18x20 will have to do.

The cx 2.0 is my favorite I had all of them and I always go back to my 2.0 just the best feeling racket of the batch imo. It has the best string drill pattern imo very tight squares and the best control and the best feel. Will try the new one and see how it feels.
