Dunlop M-Fil 300

i absolutly love the racket since i got it,the only thing is i dont have that much power comin from it right now,it could be i just need some time to use it,but i was wondering whats the best place to place lead tape on the racket.

I've placed 6 grams in total at 3 and 9 o'clock and i have ten grams all along the handle. Now it is stable and headlight. It plays great now.

i have put my 4 stripe POG OS down in favor of this one during games. my weakest spot is service and this balances out my needs nicely. i use it just stock.. it was a hard decision to put down the good old POG

Lost in a match today to a 17 year old...just wanted to say it here, 'cause it would have been rude to say it on the court:

PICK ON SOMEONE YOUR OWN AGE, YOU WHIPPERSNAPPER!!! ;)

Now I gotta go find some middle-aged shmuck to whup up on so I can feel better...

Little red caboose, with smoke blowing out the stack .... ;)

Read the TW rqcquet customization section - has info on adding lead. Generally, lead in the head will increase power, reduce maneuverability.

Strings/tension is the other option from an equipment perspective...lower tension and go to a multi or gut

Yo thanks alot appreciating it,doesnt the color design on the mil fil 300 look great, its way sexier then my babolat apd

How are we

going to celebrate a 200-page post with over 100 members? Let's have a tournament with a 124 draw with the winner getting .... an MFil 3 !! Jon you da tournament director!

That's me!

"I thought I could, I thought I could..." :)

Don't worry, my wife suggested that I enter a local tournament here, and I really am thinking about playing it.. The problem is, I know I can win a few matches if I don't move alot and dictate, but these Japanese guys will run down everything..

At first I was like, yeah, I dont think so, but to make my tournament comeback at 33y.o is kinda cool.. I told my wife that after all, Ken Rosewall got to the 74 Wimbledon final at 39.. And her reply was, "You're not Ken Rosewall" ;)

I am actually up for it even though I am way out of shape and havnt played competatively for 13 years.. But what have I got to lose?.. Just do it for some fun..Just hoping the arm comes good in the next month..

Good idea, boat! Now what we need is some crates of cabernet to spice things up ... ;)

Different strokes. :)

You try poly?

I used to play full kevlar for 8 years. Then found the joys of poly and am now using only full poly in my MF3s! Perhaps it's because of the high racquet head speed I generate which many of my tennis partners commented on. I like to swing hard and fast on groundstrokes and need a stiffer string to compensate for this useless uncontrollable power. :D

GO FOR IT, CHRIS!!! Fly the MF3 flag high whilst you're at it!

Don't worry, I emphatize with you. Women all around the world are the same. They never understand that a man has to do what a man has to do. The mind is willing, but the body is shot.

Chris, make sure you go out with a nice sleeveless shirt, long shorts and a bandana. Your opponents will be shaking in their Nike's before you get on the court.

Chris, whilst you're at it, don't forget the Haka (New Zealand Maori War Cry). This will definitely scare the wits out of 'em! ;)

Ha ha ha, well that will so not be happening. But what ever I wear, it will be the darkest colour that I can find so I can hide the shape and contours of my once glorious body!:D

Oh jonolau.. Here I was really getting to like you, and then you ask me "an Australian" to do the haka?..

If you saw what we did to Japan in the Rugby World Cup the other day, you will understand that we dont need no damn Haka!:D

Ahhh ..... I never knew you were an Aussie! ;) Some Pom just put a 75k pound wager on Australia to take the RWC at 9-1 with William Hill. Even the Poms have lost all hope with Jonny out of action.

I would like to think that we will win it, but South Africa might be a little tough..

Although we were only just beaten 1-0 by Argentina in the football last night, so I wasnt unhappy about that result considering they are the #2 team in the world.. It means we are getting up there..

I'm sure you'll have fun...at 33 you're still a young'un, though you won't realize that until you hit your late 40's. :)

Thanks, I havn't 100% agreed to it yet, but we will see..:D

And I also agree that 33 isn't old at all.. I only feel old because I don't look after myself as much as I should..

Welcome to the club, Goggles!!!

Welcome aboard, Goggles! BTW, did you get yours from TW? :D

Noped, too long a process and they didn't have the wicked yellow grommets. Got them from Sports Authority.

Its really plays different to the 300G. It feels lighter and definitely more powerful. Maybe I'll post a review on the differences.

I have an mfill and sold a load of my other rackets so i wonder i anyone has thoughts on if I should buy another the same or go for the aerogel 300, do they play close enough to share a bag or should i stick with the m fill?
Thanks all

Hi,

You have another addition to the club.
Demoed the M-fil 300 after reading the posts on here. They had one left at my local tennis specialist at 1/2 rrp, so $100 in your money. I know thats more expensive than on TW but once you pay shipping to UK plus taxes etc it works out more expensive to buy it online.
Also bought the demo for $70. Bargain. Had to put 3 overgips on though as I have big hands (original size 3/8) Will this affect balance much?
First impressions of the racket are good although struggling a bit on 2 h b/h. I used to play a Wilson Hyper Hammer 6.3 so it's very different. More control and great at net. Hurt my shoulder trying to serve too hard though.
I play mainly doubles now but did win my club singles championship this year. I play an all-court game and have a big forehand/serve. No idea what rating I would be .
Thanks for turning me on to what I hope will be a great racket for me.
P.S my specialism is also wine. I work for one of the Cambridge Colleges here in the UK as a wine cellar manager.

I haven't demoed the racquet, I was curious; just bought two by the specs and your comments guys..........I hope not to get disappointed.
Actually I'm playing a Fischer M-speed # 1 SL with similar specs to the M-Fil 300.

Besides having a racquet any other requirement to be part of the M-Fil 300 Club?

Hi Javier, are you still using the Fischer Pro Tour FT? I would like to hear from you soon how the M300 compares to that.

Thinking about getting two of these

I have read about 10 pages but got tired. I am just getting back into playing after being off for over 2 years. I have a Dunlop Revelation Select Pro Midsize. I want something a little lighter. I am mostly a baseliner with a strong forehand with top spin, flat, slice and inside out. Backhand needs work so I do a lot of run-around. I was ranked a 3.5 lat year I played and I would say I was low end on that scale. I would say I got the rating because that particular day I killed all my serves and did not fault once. I can serve flat, spin, and to the corners with some power but....I turned 50 this year and I think I need a lighter racket to help my racket speed. Should I get this racket? And if so, what string and tension should I use? Thanks for a great forum thread to explore this racket.

I have 3 rackets out for demo to hit with:
Babolat Pure Drive
Dunlop AeroGel
Prince Speed Port Red <<< Feels really nice.... ;)

All of these are way too pricey for me but I needed some where to start. What do you guys think?

Not playing anymore with the Fischer Pro Tour FT, I like much more the M-Speed # 1.
Let me play couple of times with the M-Fil 300 and I'll compare it with the Fischer.

I'm about your age, probably 4.0/4.5.
I was off the game for about 17 years, two years ago I started playing again and I played since then with almost all the racquets in the market.
Believe or not I did not demo any of those, I bought them selling them just after what I consider a good time to demo a racquet.

I played most of the time with 12 oz and over, my last over 12 oz racquet was a Fischer M-Speed # 1. I really like it, so I bought a second one in the big auction site but it happens to be that by mistake I bought the ligther version which works a lot better for me.
I takes a little while to get used to the weight (only 10 grams I believe), but I can played for hours with that racquet strung with polys with any kind of pain.

So to resume the racquets I like and I believe might fit your needs;
Yonex Rdx 500 MP (discontinued)
Head iRadical OS or MP (also discontinued)
Fischer M-Speed # 1 SL

I just bought two Dunlop M-Fil 300 but did not have the chance to play with them yet.

I hope that helps, good luck !!

how is the m-fil/aerogel 300 in stock form when playing against heavy hitters? is it stable like the prestige or is it lanky like?

I have my eyes set to getting two m-fill 300s :) I need a really low powerd racquet, and blue Gear 1.25 strung at 62 on my FXP Instinct is still way to powerfull. Once I get them ( 4 5/8's ) Im going to string one at 65 with Big Ace 1.22 red, Or mabye Hybrid PS multi or PS titan ( 65/63). And the other Big Ace Micro 1.15 around 65 or something.

Jon, Can you do me a big favor and post your pictures of your m-fil 300s with the different string jobs? I wanna find a good matching color set up for it, I wanna see what looks better ; with Big Ace red, or white Big Ace. ( was thinking about going red big ace mains. Thanks;)

No racket that's roughly 290 grams unstrung will be as stable as another racket that's 320 grams unstrung. 30 grams difference is HUGE. As always...there will be trade offs.

Hi Dave, if you do a search for Redflea and my other threads on our thoughts of the Aerogel 300, our findings between the MF3 and AG3 concur. If you have started off with he MF3 and like it, you will find tha they both play very differently and chances are you may stick with the MF3.

However, don't take our findings as final as you may personally prefer the AG3 over the MF3. There are also quite a number of people on this board who do like the AG3 over the MF3.

The key deciding factor is price.

Hi smirker, welcome on board! First and foremost, send over a crate of your finest as your first dues! ;)

I have tried using 3 overgrips on other racquets before and found that it doesn't affect balance too significantly as compared stock racquets. However, what I did find a little annoying after a while is that a stock racquet will feel a little hard and harsh on the palm after getting used to such a cushioned grip!

You will find that when switching over to a new racquet, most people tend to overplay it and stress the muscles/joints. Hope your shoulder is better now!

I moved over to the MF3 after playing for years with heftier players frames that were in the region of 350gms and above with SWs of about 335.

After taking a 3-4 years break from tennis due to the birth of my kids, my physical conditioning had also dipped tremendously due to inactivity. So when I wielded those hefty racquets, I found it difficult to maintain any good pace or counterpunch hard hitters as I got tired quickly and it was a real challenge to maneuver it.

This set me on a quest to search for a racquet with a lower swingweight but still with a headlight balance. The quest ended at the MF3's doorstep and have not looked back since. The key deciding factor was the price of the MF3.

As for strings and tension, I would suggest using the same setup as the last racquet you played with so that you can maintain all the variables to get a constant base for comparison. Change your setups after that if you don't like it and a suitable recommendation can be made.

Thanks;)

Hi Yonex, unfortunately I'm overseas now till 2nd Oct. But let me see what I can dig up from my Photobucket collection ....

Here's what the MF3 looks like with full Big Ace red and Gosen Polylon SP white (unfortunately BA doesn't come in white, only red, lime yellow, beige and Big Ace Micro silver):

Here's how it looks with full Blue Gear:

:-D Thanks jon, The white string you have next to the big ace looks good. but will look awesome together in a hybrid. Can you add me to your club? Since I just ordered two:grin:  Hehe

Welcome to the club, Yonex.!!!

Is it a good idea for me to add 3 grams each to both 9 and 12 o'clock and then counterweight with 5 grams on the handle? I expect a bit more powerful shot but I'm wondering if I should add more to the handle to make it more head light...

Thanks Jonolau for your feedback. I will try to smuggle out a case or two from the cellar for next club AGM. Not sure how well it will travel to Singapore though. Fine wine and Tropical climates do not mix!
Looking at different string combos now. Play mainly doubles so need to volley a lot. Read favourable reviews of Supex BA on here and was wondering how it volleys? Would I be better of trying their Multi or maybe a hybrid of the 2?Suck it and see I guess. Never used a Poly before. You recommend mid tension on the M-fil as a start point?
