Dunlop Max Comfort 17

Having read all the posts here on the Dunlop Max Comfort I decided to give it a try. The price was just too tempting. Strung up a PK 5g with the MC 17 at 57 lbs. Its very easy to string, the crosses were the easiest I have ever done. Ends don't get mushy like most multis.

Played great for the first hour. Wonderful control and good power, better than my standard Gosen SM 17. But after that the feeling began to disappear rapidly. After 3 long sets the control was slipping and the feel had all but disappeared. Noticed this particularly at the net.
Played another match with it and it was a disaster. The string was basically dead. Could not do anything with the ball.

Now I'm not a big multi fan, so take that into account as you read this review. I prefer a crisp syn gut and use Gosen SM 17 almost exclusively. But I have played Wilson Sensation 17 and have to agree with most folks its a better string than the Max Comfort. At least you can get several matches out of Sensation before it goes dead. The Max Comfort was a lot like the Alpha 2000. Great start, no endurance.

Try FXP 17 or Klipper Zyex 17. They both play well until the end. I would probably be using the Zyex as my standard string if it weren't for the price.

You can also try another multi that holds tension much better and simply hybrid it with a crisp synthetic gut cross like the Gosen SM or PSG w/ Duraflex.

I'd recommend
Tecnifibre X-One Biphase
Klip Excellerator
Laserfibre Phenom XRC

Or you can even use natural gut mains (I found that they last far longer than any of the above strings; while Excellerator mains popped in 2-3 days, the uncoated natural gut in 17g from Klip lasted me 2 weeks).
