Dunlop Maxply

Is the Maxply (that i love by the way) the same as any other Dunlop frame or is it unique? Love the racket, not so much the paint job! Just wondering if i could get the same racket in a different colour scheme?

When someone says "Hit with an ugly stick", I think they were talking about the Dunlop McEnroe. From what I can tell, the specs for the McEnroe are unique to the Dunlop line. If you use the racquet finder on TW you will find the Technifibre TFeel 305 and Prince TT Warrior as the ones closest in specs. That McEnroe's a great stick, right? Unfortunately, it's too light for me but very solid feel, good power, and good control.

I weighted and leathered one up, strung with gut at low tension and it was really a solid performer all around. Could probably live with it for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, player and racket are an intimate relationship. I couldn't stand looking at it. I saw that red, green and yellowish frame and I wanted to "paint it black..."

Kinda like being with the woman who is a culinary genius, loves to cook, waits on you hand & foot, performs "favors" on command, plays high-level tennis, has a PhD, loves animals, and is independently wealthy......but, unfortunately, you are not attracted to her in the slightest degree... :-(

BTW, sand and/or blasting the paint off the thing would ruin the structural integrity of the frame. You could take it to paint & body shop, but what a hassle and expense that would be...

If you go to Home Depot they have a product in the paint department called Graffiti remover. It comes in spray can. It's used to remove paint from just about anything, mostly brick. It works fast and effectively. You could remove the grommet set (or just get a new one) and spray it one the racquet. You'll see the paint just bubble off of it.

dear Lord, that sounds a bit drastic!!! I'm thinking of getting either the aerogel 300 which seems not a million miles away from the Maxply's specs or the Pure Storm, which is very very close.

Its a shame they look terrible as they are great rackets. I dont know what dunlop were thinking when they released them with the maxply cosmetic. I think someone around here said they were going to re release it but with different paint but it never happaned.

They were thinking that a lot of people would find them very appealing and they were right. They probably also thought that the retro look would resonate well with the name McEnroe and the playing characteristics of the racquet. Make sense?

People obviously didnt find them appealing as they were discontinued and put on sale, shops are still trying to get rid of them. Also who wants to play with mcenroe's stick, its not very appealing to anybody who just buys a racket based on what the pros use. It plays ok but most amateturs buy a racket based on how it looks.

I originally didn't like how it looked, but it grew on me.
Trouble is looking like a(nother) JMac wannabe....
