Now the question is: will Andy play Wimbledon? He has no chance of winning it, but match play would be desirable. Depending on his draw, he could get to the 4R. But that serve of his needs some pumping up!
Probably better to play a challenger or maybe Newport.

Congrats to Edmunds blnt Murray,,Edmunds too good,,Hit passing shots by Murray almost at will. Murray is a couple steps slow.

Cheers
3Fees :)

lets not underestimate this performance by Edmund, Grass is his weakest surface and he's absolutely dominating a decent Murray today. Very good signs going into Wimbledon for him, less so for Murray but he came to life at the end. Good match from both tho
By what standard of Andy Murray was this decent?

He seems reasonably healthy, he still has a lot of talent, but with lesser movement and a lack of major weapons he made too many easy errors on a day like today.

Murray actually looks a lot better than I thought he would at such an early stage in his comeback. With a decent draw I can see him winning at least a few matches at Wimbledon although it'll be interesting to see how he fares in the best of 5 format.

Murray's serving is the ONLY part of his game that is looking awful since his return to the game. His FH actually looks better, BH and movement all looking good but his serve is still as garbage as ever, maybe even worse. He really REALLY needs to work on that or rev up the speed or do something to fix the consistency
Jamie D, said at an interview at Eastbourne today that Andy's serve was the shot that was giving him the most pain at last years Wimbledon, consequently it something he has not practiced during the year whilst recovering

Don't think I've ever seen Kyle play better than this. His serving and ball-striking were phenomenal in their accuracy and penetration. I didn't feel there was much Andy could do especially after losing his opening service game and was then forced to constantly try and come from behind. He just didn't seem to have much with which to hurt Kyle in this kind of mood no matter how hard he tried to fight back.

I will personally ring Kyle's neck if he doesn't go on to take his maiden title here. There can be no excuses after putting on a performance like we saw today.

As for Andy, it's another step taken to try and get back to his best. Clearly he's not there yet but it's so encouraging to see him back on court and playing again. He' needs more matches and I hope he will feel able to enter Wimbledon next week. Given that the AELTC have just granted Serena a place in the seedings, surely they can do the same for Andy and help him avoid having to play top 20 guys in the early rounds so that he will have the chance to get more matches under his belt?

I feel that the grass at Eastbourne really suits Kyle's game and it puzzles me why so many people think it is his weakest surface. He certainly looks good on it to me and it bodes very well for his Wimbledon campaign this year!

Can someone explain to me why there's a Scottish flag next to Murray's name on Eurosport site (when I checked the result)?

The more dangerous floaters, the better. No one should feel safe on the sacred grass!

Agree totally
I read that the rules for wimby don't allow it in the men's game, i.e. They can only alter the top 32 seeds?, but in the women's game they can allow, if it's appears an unbalanced draw, don't know whether this is internet rubbish or some sort of old fashioned female thing

The men's is the first 32 then arranged by formula. The women's is without the formula, but with discretion.

There should be no difference in the rules whatsoever. It's ridiculous Serena should get a seeding just because she is a female player and Andy won't just because he is male. Talk about sexism in reverse! Ironically, Andy himself would have been the first to speak up about if it had been the other way round. Maybe he and other ATP players coming back off long injury layoffs should now make their voices heard again in the name of gender equality!

Isner plays Newport and Andy couldn't beat that giant in this current form. He'll want to move onto HC's anyway. But it would be cool if he played Newport!

Do you think so? Given that he almost beat Kyrgios in his first match for 11 months and only narrowly lost to a goating Edmund today, I have a feeling he might still be able to take on Big Izzy who hasn't exactly been at his best himself lately.

Who's the female version of Murray on the WTA? Serena? Come on Serena, pay it back.

It was an honour as always to share the court with you today, you’ve been a great mentor over the years and to see you back is truly inspirational. See you at @Wimbledon

Great play by Kyle. He was hitting unbelievable returns/return winners off both wings. He's probably also one of the most low profile, polite player in the tour.

It seemed like he played better then the last time he played against Kyrgios. Hard to say, sometimes your opponent's game make you look good.

Regardless, well played today. Seems like a promising player to go deep at Wimbledon. We'll see.

Murrey seemed to enjoy himself. That's the most important thing.

Anyway, Djokovic needed time to get back, Wawrinka still can't come back, so I think Murray will be alright and winning again at some point.

Just saw the highlights.

That Edmund FH, wow!

Edmund played too well, and there's not much Murray could do today.

The scary part was, Edmund could've played better. He left so many chances to approach net after great IO FHs. With such a fearhand, if he would attack the net more in the future (and focus on netplay some), while improving consistency, he is top 10, and can stay there for a long time. To me, this Kyle looks like a Rublev with a better BH, movement, netplay, and serve. And I have high hopes for Rublev, and consider him the best of Rublev/Medvedev/Khachanov.

Murray is not there yet obviously, but looks pretty good after 3-matches back.

I think John Isner is typically the only top 50 player that plays Newport; hence he has won the title numerous times.

I know that the draw is usually full of lower ranked Americans, most of whom have virtually no experience on grass. If he doesn't draw Isner early, he could rack up some wins. He needs matches and wins.

Andy should play and the crowds would warmly welcome him!

Was the crowd pro edmund pro Murray or 50/50

Just fast forwarded through the match. Edmund seemed too humble to want to take the royalty (Murray) away from the crowd. The crowd was subduded, as they wanted their saviour to be resureccted. The crowd didn't exactly support Edmund, but they weren't 'against' him. They just wanted signs that Andy was coming back. I kink of felt sorry for Kyle. He deserved more love from the crowd.

Edmund came across as a whiner when he was shaking his head during the handshake when Shapo took him out a month back.

Edmund acted that way bc of a disputed 'call' where Shapo could've been more generous about and play a 'let', but didn't. Not saying right or wrong, but that's the reason.

We talk a lot about what the draw will mean for Federer and Nadal, but Murray must be desperate for a kind draw. He needs 2-3 relatively soft opponents to get some rhythm, I think.

Isner is totally useless in 80% of tournaments he enters. He's good for like 4/5 tournaments a year, which is always 1/2 250 titles, and 2/3 Masters 1000 semifinal runs or deeper.

Can never figure out when they go based on "country" and when based on citizenship. Puerto Rico is considered a different country for sports, even though they are US citizens.

Legally, being Scottish is secondary to being British because Scotland is still legally a part of the nation of the UK (however some Scots may feel about it). Just to confuse things further Scotland, along with Wales and Northern Ireland, has separate representation in some international sports like football and golf (because they both have their origins in the UK) and in the Commonwealth Games whilst in tennis and the Olympics they form part of a united British team. About as simple to follow as Advanced Nuclear Physics isn't it?;)

In the case of Puerto Rico, they are still not legally a state of the Union which probably accounts for their separate representation in international sports.

Big question mark on his fitness, if he can go 4-5 tough sets at this stage of his comeback.

It's a U.S. territory, which automatically grants anyone born there citizenship to the United States. However, it has not been inducted as part of the 50 U.S. States, so they do compete independently at Olympic games and such. PR has been very much in favor of being made a state, but unfortunately, under this xenophobic and moronic administration that's not going to happen any time soon. :(

Disappointing recent questionable sportsmanship on the recent double-bounce controversy against Djokovic.
