Easter Bowl

Last week was the ITF at Carson and this week is the Easter Bowl in Palm Springs .. the boys winner last week winners from SoCal Krista Hardebeck and Daniel Kosakowski. I'm surprised by the early upset of Grace Min.. she lost early last week and she's already out this week in a 1st round upset.. it looks like the USTA did their magic again.. turning a good potential player into early round loser.. both Krista Hardebeck and Daniel Kosakowski are not USTA kids and look what they did.. any predictions on the winner of the Easter Bowl?

Interesting in the 14's, only 1 unseeded player made the quarters.

http://tennislink.usta.com/tournaments/Draws/EventDraw.aspx?T=80681&E=1&D=M&S=F

Deiton's game bodes well for this age bracket especially since the top seeds have been taken out of the mix. He should be able to finish off this event successfully.

What I love about this event is to see the successes of last year and their transition into the upper brackets this year. (Main draw players out that had good results last year may indicate the game is just too big for them to transition successfully)

Donald Young won boys 14s twice, the first time in 2002. He was twelve.

Justin Gimelstob won 14s, :)
Vincent Spadea won 14s. :)

Aaron Krickstein won 14s
John McEnroe won 14s in 1973

Run's not over for him yet. He's into the finals of the doubles.

Oh the B18s, Halebian might go all the way?

Unfortunately (to me anyway) the doubles would be a consolation. Kozlov travels across country and makes the finals. Deiton suffered another setback in a major JR. We can only wonder how good this kid Baughman could really be if he had the right camp in his corner. I'm sure someone on here was at the tournament. Does anyone know what happend? As I have said in the past, Mr Baughman will be the primary reason why his son does not make it because of who he is and how he handles himself. And Deiton if your reading this, congratulations on making it to the Semis in a tough Tournament filled with talented players.........Halebian will be the next hope for the Americans on the ATP tour one day....

Major setback? I don't have a dog in this fight but, I wouldn't call it a setback for an unseeded kid to get to the semi's of the Easter Bowl. He was the only non-seed to make it to the quarters.

As far as the 18s is concerned... interestingly enough, I believe Halebian is one of the USTA kids.

If you look at the number of Tournaments the Baughman kid has played in the 14's it's obvious to see that he would be unseeded. The fact of the matter is that Mr Baughman needs to produce scoreboard and not brag about what he has by posting his son on (you-tube), plain and simple at least that is what I believe he has done in the past is'nt it? BTW, just because Halebian is from USTA does not mean we pre-judge his ability to make it. No doubt he has size and game and is a lefty to boot. Don't be a follower Chalk like evryone else on here who thinks the USTA is'nt worth a hoot because they are indeed going to make some big things happen in the future and Halebian is one of those projects.......

I'm the furthest thing from being a follower. You hit the nail on the head when you said Halebian is just "one" of those USTA projects.

I was there and saw him play, he's pretty amazing but needs more tournaments under his belt, for the most part though I think he had a pretty good run. As for his dad I would agree with you the guy seems nice but he seems to intense for the kid. After one of his matches they removed his shoe and his big toe was a mess! Unbelievable that Deiton would be out there playing under these conditions. As for dubs he played with someone (unseeded) and ended up in the finals, not bad.

Thats right, I did hit the nail on the head. Bottom line is, USTA helps kids to the next level that are intelligent enough as well as talented enough to incorporate there plan with the "Project". Halebian as I said before, has the goods out of any JR's coming up. Lets see, winner of the Eddie Herr and runner up a couple times. Easter Bowl success in the 18's at the age of 16. Size, power and brains. Gee I wonder if he will handle what the USTA offers? Like I said, go follow everyone else on here who is negative or sarcastic about USTA because I won't buy into your thoughts on this subject. Enough said......

Congratulations to Krista Hardebeck!! With recent wins from the National Clay Courts and now the Easter Bowl, this girl is one to watch!...and she's only 15! My daughter and I met her once after the girls nationals in Berkeley...at a Carl's Junior restaurant of all places. My daughter was too shy to ask for her autograph so I approached her instead. Not only did she sign my daughter's hoodie, but she (and her Mom) took the time to talk to my daughter and encouraged her to keep playing junior tennis and to work hard at it.

There were 124 other boys who would have like to have played as well and have those results Deiton did, 5 or 6 months off uses a Wild Card to get in and ends up in the semis in singles/finals in doubles. My questions to you is what is the setback in this? Do you really think with those results he needs a better corner? If so, what are you saying about the rest of the kids and "their corners, like me?

Krista is the sweetest girl I have met in tennis. I hope the best for her.

I think you need to do some more fact finding. Through the grapevine I have heard that Deiton played a couple tournaments ahead of the Easter bowl and who knows what else he did or how much practice he put in. As I said before, congratulations to Deiton and his making it to the Semi finals of a tournament that had him crush some of the top (50) 14s which clearly demonstrates he is head and shoulders above the rest nationally. My only question is when is he going to get over the top? Everyone who is on here is very familar with his Daddy and the way he handles himself and his kid during tournaments. I hate to dissapoint you but I will assume you don't have his ability nor does most of the kids who are on here at the 14 age range. Judge for yourself and look at some tape of Mr Baughmans son and you will see what I mean. I will probably guess though that you may have the mental make up which happens to be a major part of the game. And I won't try guessing who's in your corner. Kozlov made the finals and I don't know if he won or not, but he is 12 years old and as we all know his Dad owns an academy so I do think it matters very much who is in your corner as well as a huge mental game which Kozlov indeed has. I'm sure everone will get on my case now and explain how he is small and will never make it to the next level, etc...

Good luck Son......

Next level being what? The tour?!!!! Enough of the gobbleygook.

In my opinion it's absolutely ridiculous to play crystal ball with 12 and 14 year old juniors.

First off, you make some interesting points, and looking at his record, Deiton played a couple of tournaments. One first round exits in a boys 18s, and three rounds in another which for some reason the tournament didn't finish. Kozlov made it to the finals, he cried twice in the semis and tied his shoes about 12 times in the first set if you get my point. Thats pointless about both of them, I've watched both of them I know who's going farther or to the next level. Two questions for you to answer, Do you have a kid playing or are you a junior player? Also have you seen both these boy in person? and if so who's game do you like better? Your second answer will tell me about how much you know about tennis?

As far as whose game I would prefer. Honestly, neither one. I've seen them both. Both will have decent college careers which isn't all that bad anyway. But in reality nothing more. The movement is suspect on both of them, technically Deiton is the more sound player but he lacks athleticsm. Stefan is a hustler but he is truly an attrition player. All in all if I was a sponsor I would pass on both of them.

There are just too many players now with more complete packages in the 94-96 birth years.

Yes, except Stephan is 98 kid. I guess if you were a sponsor you would pass on players like Ferrer or Davidenko. By the way they are making comfortable living.

I will go off the heels of Tennis Craze. I had two kids who went on to major Colleges on a full ride Tennis (not half, quarter, etc.) Deiton has much to improve on his footwork and needless to say his mental game is a (0) based on how he is handled by his Dad. He has great strokes thats it. I have seen seen Kozlov play and Video on Deiton. Kozlov cries because he hates losing and unfortunately if they don't get a handle on that it will pose a problem in the future. Kozlov has the heart the size of a lion. Deiton has better strokes and fundamentals and Kozlov to me anyway has a much better game. If I were to bet I would say the Baughman kid will not go anywhere including College this based on how he is handled. Kozlov will most likely go to College on a scholarship and at that point will determine if he has the goods to go pro.

why do people contiue to take shots at Brad?????? Brad is just a real intense guy who gives everything he has to help Deiton reach his goal of being a professional tennis player.I played college tennis and got there on my own with NO parental support! I would have done anything to have a father like Brad!I think that if i would have had a father like Brad i might could have played on the next level. So before u take shots at Brad get to know the man get to know Deiton and you will see a very healthy father son relationship. If Brad thinks Deit is the next Nadal why does it matter????? Keep up the hard work TEAM BAUGHMAN!!!!!!!!! I WISH MY FATHER WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE BRAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Krista's from SoCal... and we're seeing a lot of good things from her.. she sort of got crazy good within the last year or so.. same with Daniel K. both are true champions, very low key and they just win.. great to see that good guys DO come in first...

EXACTLY::: as they say "you've got to walk in the man's shoes before you can judge him" .. he's doing the best he knows and giving his all to his kid.. this makes him a real man in my books...

SoCal and Ga Ga Tennis, you guys have much to learn about child phychology and how to raise a champion the right way. BTW, champion does not necessarily mean being a Tennis player at the highest level it simply means having the ability to raise your kids without humiliation so that when they go out in the real world they have very high self esteem. All I know is the Dad (Mr Baughman) may appear to be a great dad caring about his kid being the best, etc.. But the underline fact of the matter is that it is all about Mr Baughman and his getting recognition. The damage is already done and rest assured like I have said all along, Deiton works hard and has great fundamentals but I'm afraid because of the way he has been brought along I Don't see him ever getting over the hump of winning a significant Tournament and even making it to College on a scholarship which some of you think will happen. Time will tell.........

Im sorry I did not know you knew Mr. Baughman so well , also had no idea that you were a child phycologist that makes all the difference on your opinion ! What is all this damage you have detected through your sessions?

I live in the same county as the Baughmans and on many occasions hung out with Deiton at tournaments this kid is the farthest thing from damage goods like your proclaiming on this thread , what is your underlying agenda?

Are u a child psychologist? How many champions have you raised? How is Deiton being humiliated? Why wouldnt Brad want recognition for team BAUGHMAN?What damage? Deiton is lucky to have a father who is so involved in Deitons dream! What hump? How many college players have you helped get scholarships? Are u a division one coach? How many pros have you coached? What are your credentials? Are you Nostradomus reincarnated?

This guy and a few others show jealousy towards Mr. Baughman and Deiton this skinny kid comes in unseeded and kicks butt , a early round exit would have had these guys going nuts basking in Deitons loss but good job Deiton they are struggling with your unseeded dominates LOL.

Ga Tennis your new to this board Ive been watching it about a year these guys hate Mr. Baughman and since your for Deitons success then you must be Brad with a new screen name LOL

Read Mr Baughmans past threads and you will become well aware of the person he is. I'm stating facts based on what I have heard in the Jr Tennis world and I know a lot of people. Quite frankly I'm going easy on the guy. I wish his son all the best and I hate to tell you Trojan, but just because you hang out with someone at a tournament does not mean this is the Brady Bunch.

I wish Deiton all the best but facts are facts. Kid needs a new Coach........

I have a great way to settle this. They're both great now, will be great tomorrow, and even greater in years to come.

Oh and they both have great footwork. There how's that...everybody happy now.

I have hung out with him on many occasions been to their house on the beach, watched him workout with Lansthorp who I think is a solid coach so needing a new coach would be stupid btw he coaches me so I know how good he is ! But you are a doctor and listen to you "I'm stating facts based on what I have heard in the Jr Tennis world and I know a lot of people". Stating fact on what you've heard are you kidding me? The jr tennis world is full of crazy parents listen to you lol

Have you ever talked to Mr. Baughman or are 'all' your facts hearsay?

Dude take a hike you sound like a blowhard.

notennis says he's a retired doctor .. read his posts and tell me if you think this !dioti is a retired doctor or he just plays like one on the internet ... I've talked to Brad B on many occasions and tennis for Diet is only one of many things he likes to see his son do,and it not the major thing.. like all proud daddies he boast and talks about his son all the time.. for me I don't mind,it's just normal for some people..
notennis if you're a real man you wouldn't keep knocking the guy down,I don't really see the point.. real men just let it be... just wish his kid the best and let it rest..

no I'm Brad haha

Mr. Baughman is a pretty cool dude a little intense but overall harmless, Deiton was playing doubles next to me at the Easter Bowl and the other kid got hurt and Mr. Baughman went out on the court and worked on the other kids foot , taped it up so the kid could continue , if he was my pops I would have been pissed off helping the other team .

Do your homework or at least get all your facts right , trust me I have mine correct and right now I have to go to school but as for Robert Lansorp and their house in Newport Beach its nothing that a lot of people don't know about.

Still all your 'facts' from the tennis world? Ive watched him play you and your other blowhards on here, the dads a tool and I'm glad they kicked him off cause he had you idiots hanging on his every next move and you all looked stupid going back and forth Dr..LOL

I saw him with the new Del Potro racket and some kind of blend. What kind do you use ? BTW saw you trading with notennis don't waste your time and i'll try not to either , Ive watch Mr. Baughman tell everyone he's the coach and I know otherwise he has strung these guys along for so long it is a joke I just don't want to carry the torch from here. But your right what does notennis know child psych , Dr., tenniscoach, he thinks he is everything nut job from what I have read.

You saw Deiton training w/Lansdorp? I'm glad Brad has gone outside for some help.

Yes its sad! Brad was such an abusive parent that Deiton said he had enuff and ran away.Luckily Robert saw him walkin down by the ocean leaving his beach house and decided to adopt him.
