Easter Bowl

Great point Tenniscraze Del Po the guy up until a year and a half ago had a 110 mph serve at 6'5 on the ATP he turned out to get through ok . Seeing that Deiton serves slow his future is probably doomed like Del Po's!

Curious, why and what makes you think Deiton serves slow? The kid is 6'+ he better be serving hard. Who said he served slow? I never did. I would think that over 6'+ he'd be serving rather big???

The great thing about all this dialog is that were not that far away from Deiton and his opponents posting their thoughts. I have to imagine that there are kids on this board that have played him and are now getting old enough to base their own comparisons. They are all in their 14th birth year after all.

Even if his serve is big it won't mean much if he does not have the skills (Athleticism) and mental to go with it. Roddick has serve and has always been an athlete period. Hopefully any of the kids who have either played him or are going to play him won't be intimidated by his size. Kozlov and of course the kid that beat him at the Easter bowl were not intimidated..........

Very true. Most tennis coaches of these top juniors relish playing the taller kids. In almost every case your player can tie them up in knots. Not many of the taller boys can move well enough to beat a talented shorter player like Kozlov.

I think "relish" may not be giving the athletic taller ones their just deserves. There are outliers, Isner, and Del Po for example who I think are very agile for their size. However, non athlete taller ones. Those guys are just in the wrong game, simple as that. They are, for a lack of a better word, wobbly. Kind of like giraffes, giraffes can run but they're wobbly.

Separately, TCF, I've seen Kozlov twice now over the period of 2 years and the guy is still throwing up 10 ft balls and walking along the baseline. I don't want to start a bicker over the kid. But in reality that isn't going to work for very long. And if you say he's playing efficiently, the walking part is a little lazy.

With his dad being a highly qualified coach and knowing what it is going to take to go to the next level, I doubt 10ft balls are the norm for him over a course of a match.

Bad habits are developed over time and rarely broken very easily. In general all athletes become older versions of their younger selves. This is very common because when the pressure gauge rises we all fall back on some of our older bad habits. Which by the time we become adults are magnified 10 fold. Good and bad habits.

Bottom line as you mentioned previously Tenniscrazee, Deiton, Kozlov, and all the rest who will continue to see each other over the next 3 years will all be College bound with the exception like I said of Mr Baughmans kid which I tend to think his Mommy & Daddy will not prepare him the right way to pass SAT'S etc. As Kozlov and players like Deiton face Europeans going onto the 16's this is when there parents will realize that the car can't be fixed any longer and I will make an easy early prediction: Kozlov and or Deiton will not win a Tournament like the Eddie Herr or Orange Bowl at the 16 level and especially 18's............BTW, Jigglypuffypoopoo does not have a clue on any of these kids history and post dumb comments.......

Now that was funny. jigglypuffypoopoo. Listen it would surprise me if that "team", "posse", whatever can even spell SAT ;) much less take the test.

Oh I know about the exceptions. My point was that when we get to a tourny and see a taller boy my players do not get intimidated. They have been trained to probe for weaknesses and any limitations the taller boys might have. In most cases, not all, the taller boys are pretty easy to beat. Move them, fake them, make them come in, make them go back, hit some right into their bodies, etc.

I watched Kozlov in the quarters and semis. He is an excellent counter puncher. Very smart, very accurate. Can play angles really well. His shot selection is close to perfect. He plays a lot of defense, moonballs, and at times plays from 10 feet behind the baseline. Rubin should have beaten him, but did not have the confidence to move forward when he had Kozlov on defense. Rubin came out with the game plan to be very aggressive. If he stuck with it he would have won. Kozlov called an injury timeout early in the match, which helped. Also, Kozlov took up to a minute between a lot of points- the chair should have warned him but never did.

In the quarters I watched his first set he cried three times and tied his fourteen times that is what I counted before the set was over I hope none of us believe that is developing a game for the future may work against kids at in the 12's and 14's not in the sixteens and eighteens.

Deiton can serve extremely hard but does not , why I don't know I would be serving bombs if I was him. Hey only Tenniscraze look at this video I pulled and tell me what is wrong with his movement want to see what you think also TenniscoachFlorida your ok to chime in also but not notennishttp ://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03_IZN_zdEY

Thanks for asking for an opinion which is all it is. Please I don't want to start a bickerfest. These were rally balls so it is a bit hard to tell what would happen if he had to face a 110+ mph groundie in a match either hit with a ton of spin, angles or flat.

His strokes are very clean, he does take a clean strike at the ball. But he is like a giraffe out there, he's a bit "clunky", often is out of balance and leaning either off to the side or on his back foot sweeping upward. He seems to play "tall" a lot as well. Please don't trash me for this and no I'm not giving you my youtube email for coaching :)

The only time to judge someone is at crunch time and we all know what happend to Deiton at "crunch time" in the semis of the Easter Bowl. Again, read Tenniscp's comments so that you don't get caught up with video of non competitive footage of someone hitting a clean ball and looking like they can move. Get over it (Mr Baughman) oh, I mean Trojankid...

I don't want to get caught up in this "get over it" crud. However, I will say this in review of his TRN results. There does appear to be quite a bit of issues going forward. Stats never lie, nor do they hide behind false realities.

I just want to make a point about rankings. In the boys 14s i was ranked 150 in Georgia. Then when i got in the boys 18s i was ranked number two in Georgia and got a college scholarship and ended my senior year in college ranked top 15 in the country in division 2. So my point is rankings in the boys 14s dont mean all that much.

Whos hitting a 110mph groundie on a regular basis?

110 maybe a bit much. But there are quite a few kids that are clocking groundies regularly over 100 flat, and 90+ with tons of top. Not just in the US but abroad as well. The strokes themselves may not be as pretty as Deiton but the balls are a hummin.

First I'm speaking of boys not girls. Having said that, they are out there and honestly, the balls are huge. I've seen it first hand. You can thank racket, string technology for this type of transformation of the game. But they are out there for sure.

Also please understand that from what I witnessed they can fire that canon at will. In other words, don't come to the net unless you've got the hands to deflect a missile.

Sorry, for the added info. In a couple of cases that I saw they were firing these canons they couldn't keep more than 5 balls in the court so one has to question what good is it?

Weird thing was these kids didn't care they just kept firing more missiles. Nobody seemed to care, the parents didn't care the coach didn't care.

You have caught me Trojan Kid!!!!!!

I was at the college my dad coaches at and although they are a D1 school they clocked the ground strokes and serve and their was nothing on a regular basis at a 100 or even 90 n the ground strokes tenniscraze where were you at to see this? , FYI Gonzo unloads and hits 90 to 95 according to my pops I think you might want to check the radar gun your using.

And if you are Mr. Baughman its totally cool your back again LOL. But what is ga tennis?
