can i use the wiper like follow through motion on my forehand?
is it true that it is prone to tennis elbow?
i use an eastern grip. & more on FLAT balls

thank you

I tried it once using Eastern forehand for about 30 minutes. The next day my wrist hurt pretty much. I think one should better use Semi-Western for windshield wiper.

i been using the eastern grip and incorporated the use of the wrist over the last 10 yrs. it hurt like hell at 1st. i stopped using the wrist snap but went back to it after i strength my wrist a bit. i like the vareity and results that it produces using this wrist with eastern grip.

note that i am by far not built for tennis and played mostly at weekends. i would go back and strength the wrist even more if i were to be more than a weekend warrior.

using the wiper motion with open stance is awesome. it save you some much time on the preparation required with the close stance

Yes, you can.

I have been using eastern FH ad wiper motion for many years now. I never have any problem with it. However, I use low tension which might play a role in healthy elbow.

And please, do NOT use your wrist.

I play with an Eastern Grip and I occasionally switch from open stance wiper finishes around my waist to the classic over the shoulder finish. I usually only use the wiper motion when i get a short ball and I want to make an aggressive approach with enough topspin to keep it in the court. It also helps to modify your eastern grip a bit toward the SW side. Overall there is nothing wrong with the windshield wiper form, but I think the way the face of the racquet is aligned with a "true" eastern grip, if that is what you use, it will more naturally finish over your shoulder. Of course there are always situations where one cannot achieve this follow through or it would be unreasonable to try, and in those cases the windshield wiper finish would be more beneficial. If you can consistently make clean contact with the ball with the wiper finish and do not constantly feel buzzing vibrations from the racquet go through your arm, your elbow should be okay, proper form will dictate how your elbow will turn out.

Don't worry about where you finished off your swing, it also depends on the height of the contact point. Low contact point will have a lower finish and higher contact point will have a higher finish, even both are hitting with wiper motion.

To handle high ball with eastern FH and wiper motion, the racket at contact will have to point upward. How high the racket points will depend on how high is the contact point (presumably, the highest contact point will have the racket pointing perpendicularly). Also, you want to hit as far as in front as possible.
