VEB is an inspiration to all tennis players after his career story.

He's 35 this year and I hope he stays where he belongs inside the top 100!

VEB takes the first...
This story may have another chapter.

Brutal tiebreak on the 1st set from Giraldo. Just too many unforced errors and not all there mentally. The talent is there, but he needs the drive to match. Story of his career :(

I thought things would improve for him once he started working with Fernando Gonzalez.

Are they still working together at all?

Excellent stuff. 1 more step...

Would be great if he could stick around and make it to the Olympics next year.

From 2010 age is no boundary in Tennis it seems, it's about fitness and mentality. If Haas didn't get injured last year he'd still be in the top 30 at 36!

VEB kudos and I hope you win :)

Does anybody have a stream? I'd love to be able to see this other semi to find out which Spaniard Victor will be playing in the final

:)

Match is suspended for some reason...not because of rain because the doubles are playing just fine. Verdasco probably realized its not real clay and refuses to play.

LOL.

Apparently Feli said something about the clay being wet ...?

Well, definitely not real clay if Verdasco is struggling with Lopez LOL. Either that or he's throwing the match. Wish I could watch and see for myself.

Estrella Burgos reaching both the singles and doubles finals this week at his age has been such an amazing, feel good story for the sport. His persistence and fighting spirit following all of his injury and results setbacks in the past and the fact that he is so short, is incredibly admirable.

If Victor wins this title, he could crack the top 50 considering his results last year.

It would be pretty cool if this lone guy from his small country made it that far up the rankings -- and at such an age.

Lopez (Getting on 34) players VEB (Getting on 35) in the final of an ATP tournament.

If Lopez wins he'll get to a career high ranking of number 13, if VEB wins he'll break the top 50 I presume.

Is Lopez tanking? He's not bothered to return serve and it's not like Burgos is bombing them with accuracy.

Lopez is playing really badly, did anyone watch him play Verdasco yesterday? I have a hard time believing he beat Verdasco, especially on this surface, in such poor form.

Lopez is an overrated volleyer. Some Djokovic-level stuff in that first set

You think he's overrated? I actually think the opposite.

I also think if you're just judging him based on his performance in this match you're seeing more fatigue than anything else, after going all the way to the quarters in the AO, then the travel through however many time zones, and then getting to the final at a claycourt tournament, which is going to test your endurance.

He hung with Milos for 5 sets at the AO.

Burgos showing why he's never won anything. Multiple chances to end this thing in 2 but chokes it all away. Hopefully he still wins in 3 against the very bad Lopez.

I wonder if Burgos can win it now?

You've got to consider the big altitude factor in Quito, and how it means that the normal way of things gets changed. During rallies, the ball is going to fly a lot more at Quito's altitude, so judging length is a hell of a lot different to what it would be in conditions near sea level. And then there's the fitness factor at dealing with such thin air.

I think this might be the worst final ever in terms of caliber of players. You have Burgos who has great talent and NO mental game. Then you have Lopez who has all serve NO other game.
