Peder got lucky RG because of the Nadal 2009 off-year injured, just saying.

It is swings and roundabouts. The year before Federer was lacking conditioning because of Mono a few months earlier. But Nadal was a competitor at the 2009 Roland Garros - so it isn't Federer's fault that Nadal wasn't in top shape. It is also worth remembering that Federer beat Nadal in straight sets on clay in Madrid just before Roland Garros 2009. Federer definitely deserved Roland Garros 2009.

I thought it was his parent's divorce?

Mental giant Nadal couldn't handle his parents separating. Something every other 8 year old goes through.

Mononucleosis is a serious illness, potentially lethal or debilitating. The fact that Peder used it as a fake excuse speaks volumes about his lack of character or sensibility. It would have been more sensible to just wear an undershirt and declare a bad back (as he learned to do later on).

True, Nadal took 2009 off, as I recall, and you are probably right about the loss in Madrid to Peder. I don’t remember all the history there, but I think he may have also lost to the Hawaii 5.0 and dropped a set to the Shirtless 4.5 Pusher that season.

Hey, if you want to ignore the big Pink Elephant of an asterisk waltzing around, it’s a free country.

Sad but true. As great as Nadal is, he sure seems like a little boy. Completely managed by his Uncle, I think he still lives with his family etc.

I have heard that Nadal is now permitted to go out to the grocery store within the bounds of the curfew – can anyone confirm?

So was it his parents divorce or not?

Or what it the fact that 2009 was the only year RG had independent drug testing?

If memory serves, Nadal had a knee injury in 2009. As for the drug testing, I wish the authorities had done a better job over the years -- Nadal would have been up 16-15 in slams now at the very least.

If my memory serves, he lost the only year there was independent drug testing. That's quite a coincidence. He also said something about his parents' separation. But he probably threw in an injury excuse too, like he does for every loss.
