Eh, keep getting blisters

One spot in my palm keeps getting blisters again and again. It's been like this weird tough skin recently, and I was hitting today when it shredded apart.

Perhaps its how I hold the racquet? I hold the racquet so the butt of it sits in the middle of my palm, so none of the grip shows below my hand when I am hitting. My tennis season is coming up and I can't afford to keep having this part of my hand get blisters and shred apart again and again.

Uhhh, yeah, you might want to change how you hold your racket. I don't know if there is a "wrong" way to hold a racket but that may be pretty close... not to mention, how do you even hold-on to it with such a shallow grip???

I think the racket would go flying out of your hands, especially when serving.

Generally, blisters form from an object rubbing against uncalloused skin.

Have you just started playing?

Is it a new racket that rubs you in a new spot not protected with a layer of callous?

Is your racket turning/twisting and rubbing against your palm because you are not hitting the ball in the center of the strings and it is twisting, you have begun hitting with an extreme western grip that put a lot of torque onyour grip, you are sweating and the racket slips?

Could be a variety of reasons.

Some suggestions.

Find a good soft over-grip that absorbs sweat and prevents slipping. Try to hit the ball in the center of the strings. Hit with a more conventional grip that feels solid and reduces the twisting. Hit with less topspin until you build up your grip strength and racket control. Let your blisters heal before playing again.

dave333 i have a friend who exactly does what you do.
grips it in the middle of his hand. he had a nasty blister right across his middle of hands and his skin was ripped to shreds. I suggest getting a new overgrip that absorbs well, tourna is pretty good.

Its not in the middle, its like in the meaty portion of my palm.

As for how long I've been playing, about 3-4 years.

Yeah, I use a mild western grip, though its probably more because my grip is old (I use wilson pro and change once a week when its really grey).
