Incredibly disappointing first set from Shapovalov.

Wawrinka isn't who he used to be, and yet Shapo largely giften him the break and didn't even force him to play well.

From what I can see the ROS is still the biggest weakness for Shapo from a pure shot perspective. And he just tried to rip a winner off a nice low chip slice from Wawrinka. At this point in his career at least, I think good defense really frustrates him.
He can't even return 2nd serves.

To be fair, it was a tidy set from Stannis. Only 4 UEs. Decent.

But I agree he is not the man he used to be. USO19 - last chance?

I don't see it.

He'll return to the top 20. But I don't see him be a threat to Djokovic anymore, and he was never really a threat to Nadal in the first place.

Threat or no threat, he's done it thrice ;)

But I agree, basically. Just hoping, I guess. A good Wawrinka makes things more interesting, for sure.

Shappy has the tools but no toolbox. Iq is something that usually doesn't change all that much. I used to have huge hopes for him but every match they just keep dwindling. He is just so dumb on court. Easily one of the dumbest on tour. It's so frustrating that everyone can see it but him and his coaches it seems

Found footage of Shapo being his accurate self on his birthday

Shapo has mostly disappointed in this match so far, but honestly, Stan looks more sure of himself in his movement than I've seen in a long while and as a consequence he's playing well again. I won't predict more slams for sure, but he'll be in the mix somewhere at the rest of the slams this year.

Honestly I just feel that the court looks really slow.

What do you mean? Are you saying the slow court is helping fatwrinka look fast? Looks like a regular indoor HC to me. Stan likes slow courts anyway.
I doesn't really skid or anything and I don't think the balls move through the court very quickly, but that may just be the angle. They don't make Wawrinka look fast cause he looks very slow to me. Plenty of shots that Shapo hits a meter inside the line and Wawrinka stands far behind the basline hitting the chip forehand back.

Go to his Instagram. They make vlogs all the time. Just has a Eugenie Bouchard vibe to him in my opinion

Fair enough. I probably won't go to his instagram though. I barely care for any social media sites, and I don't like making judgements on how hard someone does or doesn't train off of a few videos on social media unless it's blatantly obvious like Kyrgios for example.

I hear ya. It's more just the buddy buddy with Steckley that I don't like. I'm all for working hard and then enjoying your time off doing what you enjoy. I just prefer a coach and player to have a different relationship. Steckley just seems to want to be more of a bestie than a mentor. Think he could use a different type of coach to bring it altogether.
