Electric Football

Did any of you have an Electric Football field growing up?

I recently unearthed my old Packers-Patriots Super Bowl field that I got as a Christmas gift in 1997 or 1998 (somewhere around then). Found out it's actually worth quite a bit of money with all the fixings and mine is in pristine out of the box like condition.

Here's a brief description from google of what it is :

Detailed, plastic players on bases, which react to the vibration of the field, are placed on the field in formations, just as in real football. ... A switch is activated that turns on an electric or battery powered counterbalanced motor which causes the field to vibrate and the players to move around the field.

Here's a dude playing a game on the same field I have:

I was amazed to learn the company from my childhood is still creating electric football fields and you can still purchase hand painted NFL teams just like in the 90's. The fields nowadays are super advanced - one of the biggest downsides to Electric Football back in the day was how loud the motor was. It drove parents around the world crazy, for sure. I was rarely allowed to play because of how grating it was to my parents (even though my Dad grew up playing copious amounts of Electric Football). That's why mine is in practically mint condition lol.

Nowadays the fields don't even need to be plugged in - they can run off of batteries and don't drain the battery fast at all. They're a lot more quiet. It's also a pretty cheap hobby too - a field nowadays will only set you back $80-$100. I'm seriously considering buying a new field and getting back into it - as a kid I sort of knew how to play. There are a few new 'bases' now that make the game even more varied than it used to be. Never quite could figure out how to pass as a kid but my Dad was an electric football pro. He used to play in events back in the day, and win them too. So now I know any time I 'defeated' him as a kid he let me win lol.

Wondering if anyone else grew up playing or around this game as a kid? Not sure if it's a niche or mainstream thing. Guess I'm fixing to find out here.

I had Packers broncos edition :( fun but brings back bad memories

I think your field was the same exact one as mine then. Looking at the model it was the same exact field for a few years - only the teams changed. My brother got the same field/Packers Broncos edition you did the next year because I've got the four teams from back then - Green Packers, White Packers, Blue Broncos, White Patriots. Not sure if he still has his field, it was exactly the same though.

I'd still play on my old field if it wasn't so damn loud or need to be plugged in, which is the greatest inconvenience.

But given that the same bases are still used today and all my original teams are compatible on the new fields, I might give it a whirl again.

No but we had table hockey ,. So awesome so much fun and the reflexes and hand coordination got worked bigtime.
Anyone else used to let the puck rip?

Table Top Hockey was the next thing I unearthed yesterday. Agreed, an amazing game. I actually hand-painted several of my own teams for my table top hockey back in the day.

This was always the version they had at the arcade, local hockey complexes or in sports stadiums :

I wanted that one so badly as a kid lol

I played Cowboys versus Steelers as a kid. I remember having races between cowboys to see who was fastest before I stuck numbers on them. Tony Dorsett had to be the fastest.

My fastest was Keyshawn Johnson on the Jets. For some reason his base was all roided up and he was incredibly fast and would break off long TD runs.

Well, sometimes they would start running in circles :-D or backwards

Love bubble or rod hockey. I missed out on electric football.
One reason it seemed rare among my friends was because Electric Football was really quite expensive back in the day. I was a spoiled kid. I only knew one other guy with his own field back then. My dad grew up with money so his family got him one.
Now I see why kids always wanted to come over when I wanted to go to their house lol.
Nowadays it’s much less expensive but that’s probably because kids these days are glued to their consoles.

Yes I had Cowboys Niners and always played cowboys. My all time favorite sports team. Cried when they lost to the Niners in the NFC championship game as a 4 year old so my dad bought me that to feel better.

One of the few nice things the punk ever did for me :-D

Lmao I cried when my Dad gifted my brother the Broncos Packers Super Bowl edition and accused him of doing it to mock me since I was a Packers fan.

Little kids come up with the funniest things in their head. Glad I kept all that stuff though.

I'm trying to learn it now and how to play by the actual rules. The only thing I ever did back in the day was running plays. My dad knew how to pass, kick field goals, the whole nine yards.

I need to get me a modern set of the Cowboys somehow I don't have them. Got the Packers (Green/White), Broncos (Blue), Colts (Blue), Steelers (Black), Patriots (White) Jets (Green), Ravens (Purple), Dolphins (Aqua Green), and I think that's it. Got some of my old dads teams too from wayyy back in the day. The Rams, Cowboys (I think it's the Cowboys, the paint jobs back then were so basic), Cardinals, and maybe a few others.

Also have Michigan and Michigan State - where I went to school. But I don't think they make the college teams anymore. Bummer.

Was that super Bowl rough for you?

I remember being stunned at the Broncos winning, I thought the Pack would be the next dynasty after Dallas.

It was really rough. As a kid I didn't grasp that the Packers were as big favorites as they were. The loss was bad enough. Probably the hardest sports loss to stomach as a child. The second one being the Stars losing the Stanley Cup to the Devils. That one hurt pretty bad too.

I feel sorry for Vikings fans lmao

My friend who's a Viking fan was inconsolable after the saints vikes 2009 game.

This is crazy but - I was too. I was a Favre first guy. 2009 was the worst I've ever felt after a football game, and it wasn't even the Packers.

It was a little easier to stomach because it wasn't a Super Bowl, and the Colts would have been very tough to beat, but yes, that loss was terrible.

It was what, 5 turnovers, a bunch of blown calls, not getting the ball in OT (which the rule was of course changed the following year). And they still only lost by 3. That was brutal.

Man that was a fun year though. Favre turned back the clock. I was a senior in High School at the time so it felt like my childhood would end with a Favre SB. But it wasn't mean to be.

The craziest thing was vikes in position to kick game winning field goal at end (well on the tip of range) and then they had a Brad Childress classic 12 men on field, then ill advised classic Favre pick. Unreal because he'd play so well all year at 40 like a fairytale.

Then you knew they had no shot at the coin toss at that point lmao.

I think only that Bills super Bowl was objectively a worse loss or the Pats/Falcons.

I will never forget the 12 men penalty. I cannot believe they didn't give Longwell a chance to end it. He had an absolute rocket leg and it was in a dome. I really think he makes it. Childress was such a terrible coach.

It's amazing what Favre did with that roster. The defense was great in its own right, but offensively past Peterson he wasn't working with much. He made guys like Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin, and Shiancoe look like Pro Bowlers. And you never really heard their names again after Favre retired.

I really think Favre runs for that first down instead of the pick if he wasn't literally black and blue and could barely move from all the bountygate hits.

The Vikes outplayed em, they really did, I think the Vikings were the best team in the league that year, even better than the Colts.

I also believe in "the best team is the one that wins " So I'm contradicting myself... But man I think they had way more yards and first downs and also I'm pretty sure they win that game on a neutral field.

Mines at my parents house and I’m going over tomorrow. I’ll unpack it and get a pic then. It’s probably the same since I got when i was like 7 and I’m 28 now. I still have the whole set. My aunt got it for me. She knows I love the packers but doesn’t really follow football so she doesn’t realize that super bowl wasn’t a good one
