Did any of you have an Electric Football field growing up?
I recently unearthed my old Packers-Patriots Super Bowl field that I got as a Christmas gift in 1997 or 1998 (somewhere around then). Found out it's actually worth quite a bit of money with all the fixings and mine is in pristine out of the box like condition.
Here's a brief description from google of what it is :
Detailed, plastic players on bases, which react to the vibration of the field, are placed on the field in formations, just as in real football. ... A switch is activated that turns on an electric or battery powered counterbalanced motor which causes the field to vibrate and the players to move around the field.
Here's a dude playing a game on the same field I have:
I was amazed to learn the company from my childhood is still creating electric football fields and you can still purchase hand painted NFL teams just like in the 90's. The fields nowadays are super advanced - one of the biggest downsides to Electric Football back in the day was how loud the motor was. It drove parents around the world crazy, for sure. I was rarely allowed to play because of how grating it was to my parents (even though my Dad grew up playing copious amounts of Electric Football). That's why mine is in practically mint condition lol.
Nowadays the fields don't even need to be plugged in - they can run off of batteries and don't drain the battery fast at all. They're a lot more quiet. It's also a pretty cheap hobby too - a field nowadays will only set you back $80-$100. I'm seriously considering buying a new field and getting back into it - as a kid I sort of knew how to play. There are a few new 'bases' now that make the game even more varied than it used to be. Never quite could figure out how to pass as a kid but my Dad was an electric football pro. He used to play in events back in the day, and win them too. So now I know any time I 'defeated' him as a kid he let me win lol.
Wondering if anyone else grew up playing or around this game as a kid? Not sure if it's a niche or mainstream thing. Guess I'm fixing to find out here.
