Ellesse clothing 2017

Ellesse tennis clothing is now available via Ellesse UK and Dan Evans is now wearing it. But Feliciano Lopez who has endorsed Ellesse for a few years now continues to wear designs you basically can't buy anywhere. You'd think he'd change to the publicly available designs that Evans wears.

Feliciano's outfits are among the best I've seen in ages, and I'd buy his kits from the previous years as well, in a heartbeat. But no, Ellesse offers way more boring stuff to the consumers ... Even the uniqlo Djokovic and Nishokori kits were possible to buy ... But if you don't want my money, well what can I say?

I suspect there might be a club 'team' or Japanese pro element here. The local company makes lines of clothing for tennis which are pretty uninspiring but, as many brands in Japan do (even Wilson racquets and Nike), they create a special design for a club team or sponsored pros and the gear is made in small numbers for them with only a few items making it to the marquee shops.

Having been to Japan a few times in recent years most Ellesse retailers have no option to buy the (Lopez) stuff people seem to love. And the company probably doesn't be interested in catering to what is in reality a tiny market of tennis lovers around the world. It's sad but the effort to go global is probably not worth it so the UK parent has created their (again, a more run of the mill) designs to test the market demand.

Looking good indeed. I have a question that is important and keeps bugging me. Are the logos done old school way, that is embroidered patches, or something more modern like welded plastic? I noticed some of the new performance Lacoste shirts having plastic logos and that's big turn off for me.

On the Japanese ranges the logos are woven badges which are stitched on (see pic below). On the UK range they are embossed rubber ones which to me look like they'll eventually crack or get caught on something in the wash.

Ah... too bad. I liked the old style, where it's an all embroidered patch and them stitched on. The Japanese way is not too bad, just much cheaper looking.

Yeah, I like the Japanese ones over the old style embroidered ones which had a habit of getting tatty and worn over time. These fit more with the material and modernness of the designs imo.

It's made for Japan but even there the pro-player stuff is still ltd edition and almost impossible to come by unless you get it the week it launches. Most of the other Ellesse clothing they sell is pretty plain and more widely available.

One of the striped polos at the top has already gone on E-b-a-y for a hefty amount in the last week.

Good eye. I have a couple of regular Ellesse polos (non polyester) I got as a gift from relative traveling back from Europe and they have rubber logos like the ones in the Tennis Warehouse links. I am guessing these stiched on Japan ones are not that readily available as you pointed earlier.

It is indeed dope. And, no, you wont be seeing one of those polos without some luck on the e/b/a/y or elsewhere. They're not part of the global tennis range worn by Dan Evans etc.

Oh yeah. 80s style tracksuit tops by Ellesse, Tacchini etc have been staples in the UK forever. They still make them even.

Lopez lost in the first round at Wimbledon but, as expected, he had a killer outfit. It was the same design as his French Open shirt but printed white stripes on white. It's hard to see in most photos but looks amazing up close.

Glad to see that the stringent Wimbledon rules allowed the shirt logo to keep its orange and red.
I wouldn't have been surprised if they asked all logos to be either black or dark gray.

the only thing i dislike is the fact that the shorts are clearly in a different tone of white.

They are 2mm or 3mm thick embossed rubber rectangles & semi-circles that are sewed on... I can't really see how they can feel comfortable IMHO!

Only the UK range have those rubber logos. The Lopez stuff has embroidered ones as I posted in post #12 above. That's how you can tell the difference between the ranges (and the streetwear/80s inspired stuff has squared cornered old-school embroidered badges).
