All of which is totally pathetic, as she was probably the luckiest winner ever, in a slam

How the hell was she ''lucky'', when she won the tournament from the least advantageous position, without even dropping a set ?
She wasn't lucky. But since then it looks like she's not as committed to tennis. Perhaps when you're showered with praise and millions of dollars and everything you want in life you stop seeing a reason to try as hard.

She's a 19-year-old kid who shot to global superstardom through tennis.

Emma is a nice lass, but you are thoroughly deluded if you think that you'd act any differently if you were in her pair of Nikes...

Even you have to admit that the United States offers rather generous salvation tho.

Merchandising opportunities for some. Message boards for others.

The quality of opponent was quite low. Fernandez OTOH had a TOUGH draw to get through. Most of the big hitters were picked off before they could get to Raducanu.

That doesn’t take the Slam away from her. She didn’t get to decide her opponents. It’s both true that she won a damn USO and also had a ton of luck to get there, just like Kyrgios was gifted a SF walkover to make his first Slam final. It’s not a knock against the player, just a comment on the context. Zero dropped sets is a phenomenal feat in any tournament, to say nothing of the year’s final slam.

Okay, I could maybe kind of see that in certain countries. But then they hit you with Simona Halep in 15th place. What'd I miss?

Halep, also really pretty and has assets but I think what makes her marketable in my eyes is she always comes across as one of the nicest personalities in tennis and her Wimbledon final speech after her destruction a few years ago vs Serena was one of the nicest and most memorable speeches for me. In a sea of cat fights and attitude on the WTA she's probably one of the most down to earth and likable WTA players so that's probably the main reason.

She wasn’t just lucky.

She had a better coach and simplicity of context - neither of which she’s had since winning that slam.

She had a very good showing at Wimbledon for her ranking before the US Open. She was a very big story that at fortnight.

And she rode that confidence through TEN STRAIGHT MATCHES at Flushing Meadows WITHOUT DROPPING A SET to win that slam.

Winning a few matches would have been “luck”. She had more than that. Her game was full of attack and confidence.

Now she’s got million dollar endorsement duties, a revolving door for coaches, and 24 hour media attention - all overnight.

Luck - or good fortune - may have been part of it. But what’s more likely is that her quick success compiled with the attention from her stunning looks (to most people) and marketability have overloaded her circuitry and - like Eugenie - have allowed her significant athletic gifts, ability to focus, and native hunger to be drowned out by everything else.

Never said I would act any differently. But we're not talking about me, what does it mean for her and her future? I definitely don't see her becoming an ATG any time soon.

She beat Fernandez solidly.

She wasn’t just “lucky”.

if that was the case - we could get lucky and win the USO.

what she did was incredible and May very well never be repeated.

unfortunately it’s all been drowned in media attention and distraction and confusion within her team.

I see. I guess it's because I don't follow WTA, it came as a big surprise that Simona would be above the Big 3 in marketability. Didn't think she was at that level of popularity.

If you look at the website and click on each name it gives a brief overview of how the rankings breaks down and for Halep it's significantly more "audience and reach" which sorta matches what I was saying about her. Other names like Nadal for instance is more brand marketable and less audience, which again, makes sense.

you’re trying to turn my argument into an either/or because that’s what you read all of this board’s compulsive-gambler idiots do

if you can, with a straight face, look at the list of names in those ten matches and say “that looks like a Slam draw,” you are patently delusional

she earned her Slam by beating everyone she was put up against — and that was also one of the weakest runs to a title we’ve seen in WTA history

both can be true

A list of iron clad WTA opponents is an oxymoron - especially at the USO.

But yeah - I see you didn’t say it was just luck. Didn’t mean to pigeon hole you. Sorry.

Also - maybe consider that calling people here who disagree with you “compulsive-gambler idiots” and “patently delusional” is a bit too “either/or” as well?

you can try reading my post again, as I said that the people you read bandying about these false binaries are the compulsive-gambler “only I can see the truth” types, not you

No surprise that Emma "has beaten out" non-Brits in the list created by SportsPro that is based in London.

At the end of they year, it's all about the total earning that really count.

Doesn't matter what www .express.co say. Money talks

She is British, Chinese and Romanian. Only way she'd be even more marketable was if she had a Nigerian and Brazilian grandparents as well.

If Raducanu was from Lebanon and she'd be sponsored by.....nobody

Who is SportsPro? Never heard of them.
I could come up with my own standings tomorrow and Federer would be number one!

Come back in a year when she'll be around #2000 on the list. That's the harsh reality of choosing NY posh events over hours of daily practice.

Yeah? Well she's still a lousy tennis player.

Because there are so many perverts and hornballs out there. LOL. These days you just have to look good in your profession/job. You don't actually need to be any good at your job.

It really doesn’t mean much about her qualities in a positive respect. It just means casuals might pay attention because she’s young, female and athletic.

Well in the current world filled with simps no wonder she's making so much more money. Beauty sells more than ever. Just ask any instagram girl, even a 5.

Only Fed can transcend that, I mean dude he's 41, played like 1 goodbye match, literally retired a month ago and he's still making a S-load lmao.

Your beloved player signed long-term and life-time contracts. His sponsors pay regularly, no matter whether he plays or not. His contract with Nike wasn't renewed in 2018 because Nike didn't agree to pay him after his retirement.
