I bet this thread will not go over 100 replies. Raducanu will be a one slam wonder but every slam winner deserves its News thread.

If you don't like her, you can just avoid this thread instead of constant unnecessary negative posts when the thread is not even 1 page old
I'm saying that she will almost certainly be a 1 slam wonder + she is lying in order to get a paycheck from sponsors. I'm not saying I don't like her.

and how do you know she is lying lol? Why would she not like wearing jewelry when she has been wearing Tiffany jewelry even before she won US Open? Lot of women love wearing jewelry and Tifanny is like most or 2nd most popular jewelry brand in the world

I think there are more than a "100 replies" in the "Impressive 18 Year Old Emma Raducanu" that started way before many knew who she was. Have a look and you can exclude my own posts there!

She will be a 1 slam wonder. Book it. (waiting for people to quote this post if she wins another slam)
When I told others to watch out for her after the Wimbledon, I had a hard time finding believers. I think that there are more of them today but you don't have to join them :)

I think that this is a bad news. People in business, who want to cash in on the very young girl's success and looks, are just a bunch of sleazebags. Those ones have already destroyed some other young talents but they care little about the wellbeing of the teenage athletes as money's to be made and youngsters are vulnerable. I wish the WTA/ATP had a sort of control over the very young talented tennis players' sponsorships/marketing strategies so that those fine kids would mostly focus on the sport they have become famous for.

It's pretty obvious she was told to say that by her sponsors. People will say a lot of nonsense they don't believe in to get a paycheck and I don't see a reason why Raducanu would be any different. The fact she said it is an "honour" sounds like the kind of fake, over the top garbage that sponsors get you to say. Who considers wearing an item of jewelry as an "honour"? lol

not sure I agree...a professional athlete's career is short. One terrible injury can totally mess up their career. So, good on them for making most of the sponsorship opportunities they have when they are still in lime light. Even if some terrible injury happens, this will ensure that they are set for life. Also, there have been various tennis players who did rise to fame at young age and managed to balance their career well. Sharapova is a good example. She and her parents seem level headed..so let's see what happens

As of today, I would say twitter feeds are more toxic than shooting for ads. So she can shoot as many ads as she likes in her free time as long as she stays away from the phone. It seems her team has limited access to her phone after Wimbledon. A smart move. As long as she stays in the bubble, she will be ok. She said she gave her prize money to her parents.

So, you are saying that the successful teenage professional athletes should make the most out of their very young careers by quickly cashing in on their early accomplishments. Not a bad idea from the financial perspective but from the possible potential of the athlete (as an athlete) the disruptions/discractions, photoshoots, interviews, traveling to events and so on and on may turn away focus, training time and the actual development in the sport for the young pro. All in all, an embarrassing error may hurt a lot more than that "terrible injury" and an outstretched schedule may burn the kid out to such an extent that we cannot imagine. Whether those fine teenage athletes and their opportunistic coaches/managers can balance their sheets well is probably just up to them then.

Raducanu is also Canadian. I wasn't rooting for anyone. In fact I didn't even watch the final :)

Correct. Possibly a dual citizen but she is Canadian by birth and will forever be a Canadian till she renounces her Canadian citizenship. Which she will never do to her beloved Canada. Do not be fooled by these false media reports of "British woman wins U.S. Open".

England is desperate to claim her as their own after 100 years of pathetic non-slam winning singles tennis players.

More like an "honour" to get that big fat paycheck paid into her bank account for wearing the jewelry.

Do these people take everyone for idiots? The nonsense that sponsored people come out with just because they're paid to say it lol.
Now now Joker, jealousy will get you nowhere. :)

ESPN ran an article 5 days ago about her sitting on a potential 20 million dollars advertisement fortune in just a few years time.

Emma's parents were restricted from attending the U.S. Open? By whom? What covid restrictions? What is going on here. This is outrageous.

Raducanu reunited with her parents on Sunday for the first time since her Cinderella-like run in New York.
Raducanu received a police escort and traveled with security back home to Bromley, southeast London. She was greeted outside by her father, Ian Raducanu and the two hugged before posing for media and going inside.
Her parents were not able to attend the major event due to COVID-19 restrictions, and Raducanu expressed her disappointment that they couldn't be in Flushing Meadows to witness her triumph.

Until yesterday, when Biden finally lifted Covid restrictions, no-one could travel to the US from the UK or EU.

Acting clueless and feigning outrage is not a good look for you. :( As you well know, by the Biden Administration extending travel restrictions implemented by the previous Clown Administration. It’s possible they may have received an exemption but I think she said by the time they wanted to come they didn’t think there was enough time to try.

Not expected to be lifted until “early November.“ Things can change in six weeks. :sneaky:

And not no one. There were always exemptions. It mostly barred tourists. :)

She said she gave her prize money to her parents.
Both her parents are in the financial business. Both started out as floor traders and mom quit to work on raising Emma. Her dad is still a trader. Not sure his specialty? Commodities, currencies or financials. They make money for a living using their knowledge.

It was the UK that had travel restrictions that her parents had to meet 1st!

Yeh, I didn’t think of that. Issues with leaving or getting back in?

I thought Australia was the only country that has jailed its citizens? Not counting N. Korea.

Was wondering this I know there were restrictions but couldn’t she have just added her parents to her “team” to get the exception

After she won the Semi, there was a two day break before the Finals. Parents should have been flown in immediately on a special flight. Our Donald would have done this as he always had excellent relations with PM Boris and Her Majesty.

i am not disputing the first part, cos no one knows, yet... but i have a query about the second part? can you share your thoughts about the "lying" bit, in order to get a pay check from sponsors? in addition to that, how do you think the "sponsorship" usually work in the really world? (genuine question)

the UK never closed its borders.... return quarantine maybe (whatever itis/was at the time.., but that isnt the end of the world if you need to do it).

I'm gonna guess it's the vaccination rules. Emma doesn't have to be inoculated but her parents would have to to attend.

Why are you still guessing when apart from any issues with traveling to/fr the UK imposed by UK authorities they were (and continue to be) barred from entering the US per US travel restrictions:

"It is not possible for most British nationals to enter the USA if they have been in the UK, Ireland, Schengen zone, Iran, Brazil, China, South Africa or India within the previous 14 days."

E.R. was OK to enter per May 22, 2020 order issued by former Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf had established a "national interest exemption" under the Trump COVID-19 geographical proclamations covering China, Iran, the Schengen Area, the United Kingdom, and Ireland, for "certain foreign professional athletes who compete in professional sporting events organized by certain leagues, including their essential staff and their dependents." The order said that Wolf would "work with the professional sporting groups, including MLB, the NBA, the PGA Tour, the NHL, the ATP and the WTA,* to identify the specific athletes, essential staff, team and league leadership, spouses, and dependents covered by this exemption."

And if you want to ignore the reason and instead make a guess that her parents aren't vaccinated being the reason the odds are very much against you.
"So far, more than 48 million people have had a first vaccine dose - 89% of over-16s - and more than 44 million - 81% of over-16s - have had both doses."

Now I am not guessing. Thank you!...

I'm gonna guess they just waited too long if they wanted to attend to get the paperwork approved. They could have been designated part of her team and its not exactly unusual on the tour for someone her age to have their parent(s) as part of their team.

Your Clown was also a fan of the USO so it is possible he would have made it happen between eating a double cheeseburger and coke and playing virtual golf.

Emma is very marketable, she's very attractive and sorry to say objectification sells, I'm 14 years older than her and I'm into older Women anyway. Britain has a gem of a tennis player, what upsets me is that within the media's view in Britain players like Konta and Heather Watson will be forgotten, Konta held the torch of Woman's tennis for now at least 5 years.

Britain is not a great tennis nation for some reason, I think it's more to do with class issues that Tennis is seen as the sport for the "Upper crust" those who play water polo, inbreed and wear gold plated masks during Covid restrictions.

Football is the go to for our youngsters but I think more should be done to get the youngens into Tennis.

What she has in her already made her come from W21 R4 loss to this insanity of winning her 2nd major starting it as a qualifier.

And it will work even better as she gains experience in highest level tennis and in life in years to come. Bookmark this.

And it will prevent parasites from distracting her on her path.
