Empty seats vs no seats available

During Rafa's quarterfinal against Nishikori on Philippe Chatrier there were tons of seats available...almost like a first round.
On the other hand;
Not an empty seat on Suzanne-Lenglen during Federer v Wawrinka.

That's gotta say something.

Are Fed fans that insecure that they have to point out the size of the crowd at a player's match? I didn't know this was a d!ck measuring contest. What is says is that the Nadal Nishikori match was a forgone conclusion and most people knew that.
Or perhaps, it means that the French are bored of seeing the same style of play from the same guy.
No insecurities, just observations.

Obviously Fed/Wawa is going to have more interest. It's GOAT after 4 years v a francophone former champ. But to be fair, main court is often empty in many tournaments since tickets aren't transferable and a lot of fat cats buy tickets and don't show up.

All the tickets are sold out in the Chatrier. It's just that when the match is not very interesting, people in the RG stadium prefer to do something else.

No, it's not a contest to see who is most adored (unlike here where the battle has been raging for over a decade . . . and is tired as hell) . . . but one has to believe that the French are clamoring for a new champion. Nobody, fans, organizers, sponsors . . . wants to see the same thing every year. It slides your event into the realm of irrelevance as far as neutrals and potential new fans are concerned. The only people who want Nadal to win RG every year are Nadal fans.

And before the VB start crying, the same applies to Barcelona FC, or Real Madrid or Bayern, or ManU, or the Yankees, or Lakers, or any other dynastic player/team . . .

It says you're trolling because it's just not true. For most of the first set and all of the second set and half of the third Chatrier was full. Besides which, more people were watching Nadal/Nishikori because there are 15,000 seats in Chatrier and only 10,000 in Lenglen.

It tells us that a match between 2 players who have won this event is more exciting than a match between a bull and a delicate vase that will shatter to the sound of a fly farting. It was still the right decision to make imo, it's insulting to Nadal to put him anywhere but PC.

It's a bit of a worry when Mac and Boris are the voices of reason. I agree with everything they said. Summary:
1. Give the spectators a break, allow for people's lunches, consider seat warmers at reduced prices to keep people and the vibe in the stadium.
2. During the breaks, put some other entertainment on like music or juniors playing a set or two. I can't believe Mac didn't offer the services of the legends here.
3. No warm-up. The players can warm up, of course, just on another court. Have it like a fight - they come out, get introduced, flip a coin, then start swinging.

This is a good thread. I was wondering about the same thing. Too many empty seats and everything is sold out or they say so. JMac is a smart man. Boris too.

Wimbledon is empty too -- this is it right now (not dinner or tea time so unlikely this emptiness is due to a whole bunch of people being stuck in a restaurant or something)

Nobody stuck around for this match . . . and can you blame them?

Also, there were seven men's matches going on at the same time. And the courts were full for lots of those.
