Erase the entire season (including AO) and start over in 2021?

I apologize if it's already been discussed, but I don't see it on the main page, so here we go...

This theory comes from Gerard Tsobanian, from the Madrid Open. He says the ATP/WTA will need to determine a deadline and decide to skip the entire season. No tennis in 2020. But it also includes completely erasing all results between January & February. Delete all events that have already been played. Froze the rankings as of December 31st, 2019. Start over in January 2021. That's what he suggests.

The way I understand it, it means removing all ATP/WTA points players accumulated in 2020 so far. 2021 starts with the same ranking players had when 2020 started. Take back every trophies & titles, including Djokovic's and Kenin's AO, the ATP cup and all the 500 and 250 they played in 2020. In brief, erase 2020 completely.

The theory is completely absurd as far as I'm concerned, but what do you think? Will the ATP/WTA tour really consider it? Would they really take back Djokovic and Kenin's AO and go back to the Dec.2019 ranking? Thank you.

His Madrid event was cancelled so he wants points from already-played events to be erased?:rolleyes: How about cancel his event indefinitely?

Why should Djokovic get to play his favorite slam back to back keeping the results from both while Fedal doesnt get one chance at theirs before that?

No. Thank you for the laugh.

Well, what with this corona virus and all, we should probably erase all events to, I dunno, 2010 or so? Seems only fair with how this virus messed everything up.

This person is one of Ion Tiriac's henchmen. He is involved in the running of The Madrid Open and also a tournament in Switzerland, amongst other things.

Ion Tiriac's Madrid event has given us swimsuit models posing as ballkids, idiotic and dangerous blue coloured fake clay, and has decided to run its event during a global health emergency, as a video game.

We shouldn't be suprised that Tsobanian is suggesting a gambit like cancelling the whole season. No doubt money and expediting things like insurance claims is the motivating factor.

This guy is a businessman and entrepreneur and does not have the best interests of tennis in mind. He'd have us all playing nude on a court made of blue clay with rock music blaring in the background if he thought it would make him more money.

It was basically the same clay as before, just with a different color. The rain played a role in the slickness of the courts.

You lot are so hung up on counts and stats and protecting your heroes.

Very few dislike Djokovic more than I, but a tournament was held and he won it. End of story,

The cancellation of the others is very unfortunate, but it doesn't change what happened.

Erase your entire account and start over in 2021.
Why would I do that? I read this theory in several articles and I was a little worried. I don't want this to happen at all. And I like Djokovic a lot. Just wanted to know what Tennis fans think and if you think it's possible.

(Thank you others for your opinion. I'm a bit reassured now.) :)

Don't worry, I was joking. I didn't mean it.

The idea of deleting results retroactively in 2020 is not only extremely stupid, but also and primarily dangerous. Never in the history of tennis has any result of the match or tournament changed retroactively, even in the case of doping penalties, when although were removed points, but the results of the punished players remained. This is such an absurd and insane idea that it has no chance of being approved.

Retroactively deletion of tennis results would open Pandora's box. Absolutely unacceptable.
In the context of kiddies having their lives revolve around slam counts and tennis stats, it makes perfect sense.

I can't stand Djokovic, but suspect that 90% of people opposiing the idea are Djokovic fans.

They won't admit it, but they just want to pump up their heroes record.

If you think I oppose the idea of retroactively deletion of tennis results just due to Djokovic, so you are deeply wrong. This idea would be harmful to the whole tennis and I therefore criticize it. This idea has been criticized by fans of other players in this thread, not only Djoker fans, only your bias blinds you.
