Med mocking Sinner’s injury similar to how did against Novak. Such a sore loser. Gotta love it when he loses. His real self invariably comes out.
Horrible person. I have no respect for him or anyone who defends him. He is the worst presence on Tour by a large distance. Not pulling any more punches. He needs to be seen for what he is.

but he wasn't having cramps?! he was just tired, and so was Med. are we sure Med was imitating Sinner? I did not see Sinner limping like that lol
Med was just trying to mock Sinner, just as he mocked Tsistipas' dancing celebration. He bent over, pretended to throw up and wobbled around between games, then he was fine when the ball was in play. Sinner put him in his place, maybe Med can lose those types of moves on court, it's beneath him.

When the match result was announced the speaker literally called Sinner the player from South Tyrol. No mention of Italy whatsoever.
The Austrians have tried many times. In a previous Vienna, the interviewer literally asked him if he'd consider playing for Austria. And Jannik just laughed.

He definitely had the crowd massively behind him though, which isn't that common. Hopefully that wine&cheese Turin crowd will also make its presence felt...

Let's be honest, crowds like winners. Hence the Alcaraz effect. Winning big titles will get the crowds to follow.

Yes indeed, I noticed that the Austrian crowd was treating Sinner as one of their own.

Thankfully, the Kralingen verdict also arrived just in time... ;)

(JK btw, I know you're not one to take it personally, but many around here are, so I thought I'd point that out)
Ha, the jinx had its intended effect…

Of anyone here I have the least shame about debasing myself with bad prediction posts :-D

Hey at least I didn't see him yawning today...

Hopefully the Sinner can take his revenge on that court as well.
He’s such a sore loser it’s unbelievable. He treats every instance of a crowd daring to cheer against him or a player daring to hit winners as some sort of personal affront, and reacts in turn, like the spoilt bratty child he is. They say the real version of someone comes out under pressure, and what we’ve seen of Medvedev is rather disgusting and disappointing.

He introduced him so many times as Italian before. He is playing in front of mum and dad, why shouldn't he? I hope that in Halle, Basel or Munich he will also answer in German. It helps to have the crowd on your side!

The Davis Cup is my next great hope, would love to see Italy finally lift that again after so many years. The Russians are the biggest in the next years to come, good to see Jannik handling two in a row...

Will also be interesting how the old glories react to it, hopefully they make it!

That was his dad that greeted him with the team? That's the first time I've seen him play for them. Jannik looked pretty pleased with himself.

Just caught up. That was good, felt like neither player was really on it at the same time, but for a very baseline-y pair I enjoyed it more than expected

Very well done to Jannik on winning his ( I think) 10th ATP title today. He remained resolute in the 4th game of the decider and essentially stripped DM of the will to fight on. My points to note were the excellent timing / placement and 'on the hoof' creativity that JS so readily calls up to bolster his game when in the zone. As he gains momentum on the tour, and his confidence grows, there is every reason to suppose that he can soon realise his ambitions. I like the quiet, unassuming way in which he goes about his business.

Daniil was outplayed when it mattered and not for the first time. He has failed to defend a title to date and is looking jaded at times, having played a lot this year. He put up a good match and gave JS something to think about, helping to make this a compelling match for the most part.

He is certainly playing smarter which is necessary at the highest level. Beside his fine performance at the net the dominance in the rallies 9+ shines the most for me. Testimony of his growth as a player and athlete.

If you ever go to South Tyrol, most people speak native German there and don't look one bit Italian.

A short glance at history says after WW1 and fall of Austro-Hungarian empire it was taken away and given to Italy.

I am Italian and have been there many times - by far one of the most beautiful areas in the world. I'm also quite well versed in history ;) It is true that many South Tyroleans don't feel Italian, but they don't feel Austrian either. And a few years ago, when all the talk was raging about granting them dual citizenship (the Kurz administration was a big proponent of the idea), an overwhelming majority of South Tyroleans said they weren't interested.

Sinner, in any case, has always stated that he feels South Tyrolean and Italian, and he recently revealed that he now thinks and even dreams in Italian.

Cool.

I'm not Italian but i noticed on my ski trips there that they can't make a proper Italian coffee which made me believe even more they are more aligned to Austria :)

Patriotismus or national proud are dumb concepts anyway. Let the poor kid be what ever he wants to be and feel happy that he speaks multiple languages and maybe one of them happens to be yours.

We austrians are really stupid about this kind of stuff and thats why right winged parties are so strong here.

I mean it's definitely a germanic area, culturally, linguistically and even culinarily. Although I find that enough Italian influence has seeped in that the food is significantly better than in Austria or Germany. Personally, I've always managed to get a decent espresso, at least in Val Gardena. And also, you'd be surprised how many crappy espressos you'll run into in peninsular Italy as well. Then again I guess I'm spoiled, and I prefer what comes out of the DeLonghi in my kitchen to 90% of bar coffees.

Trust me, I'm not a staunch nationalist or especially patriotic. But it's just an embedded, irrational reflex for me to root for Italian tennis players. And after decades of utter mediocrity, it's nice to have a horse of this caliber in the race.
