ESPN just showed Serena foot faulting during her doubles final

The women's doubles final is on live on ESPN2 right now and they just showed a close up of Serena's feet while serving and she was clearly foot faulting. No wonder they kept calling foot faults on her during this tournament.

That wasn't a foot fault because before she struck the ball she took the left foot back. :-?

Did I miss something?

Yes, you're missing something. Cliff Drysdale said that if your foot touches the line at ANYTIME during the service motion it is a foot fault, even if you draw it back before striking the ball!

What he also said was her foot was on the line when she stepped up to hit the ball, but when she started her motion, she took her left foot back.

Again, what am I missing? :?

this is correct, same thing if you cross the center line while in service motion. its not about the ball being struck, the serve starts when the arm holding the ball is being raised for the toss and ends when the racquet makes contact with the ball. (if im reading the ITF rulebook correctly)

That does not mean the foot fault call in the singles match was correct. It was clearly wrong.

And who is "they"? A posse which follows players around remembering their foot faults?

Of course, we will never know whether it was a genuine mistake or a deliberate attempt by the lineswoman to make Clijsters win then and there. The way she acted as a victim, it was almost like she was baiting Serena.

EXACTLY!

That is what the OP forgot to state when they showed that clip of her serving all of what Drysdale said.

Well the ITF and WTA are clearly showing that she's well above the rule book. No trouble if he pummels a linesman with a racket as well. 10 k will bail her out, no problem.

Huh? What did I fail to state? I said they showed a close-up of her feet while serving and she was clearly foot faulting. What part of this is inaccurate?

Yeah, that's why throughout the entire tournament, Serena has been called for numerous foot faults in just about every match by many different linespeople. Even Serena stated this in her press conference. It must be a conspiracy by all the linespeople at the US Open to get Serena, right?

I don't know - you are saying it is a conspiracy because all the linespeople have been told to remember who to call faults on from match to match. To me, it doesn't sound like a conspiracy at all. Serena had staredowns with another guy who called faults on her, and they were correct. To me, it looks like this particular lineswoman was clearly wrong, as shown by replays and commentaries, and it was highly suspicious why she would do that at that point of the match, and how she seemed to very ready with her responses.

Good ol' sureshs..."It was clearly wrong". I have yet to see a photo that CLEARLY gives us an indication of anything other than that it is inconclusive. Do you really believe all the crap you spew on these boards?

The OP in this thread should be in every ones killfilter.

No where has it been clearly proven that Serena did footfault.
The camera angle on both the recordings is skewed and not really showong us anything - if anything it shows that the Big Hump really does touch the line during the start of her service motion.

I noticed her footfaulting like mad in one of her doubles matches. I mean we are talking FLAGRANT footfaulting. I kept asking why the hell aren't they calling her on ALL of these?

you can step on the line to catch a bad toss, so that's not exactly correct but I know what you mean.

Did you even bother to read the first post or the title of this thread?

This is about TODAY (3 hours ago) during Serena and Venus' DOUBLES FINAL. They showed close-ups of her feet when she was serving because of what happened two nights ago during the Clijsters match. My OP is NOT about the Clijsters semifinal match.

Get a clue, dude. :-?

Sureshs, you are out of your mind. Do you think 9/11 was caused but the CIA. The lineswoman did absolutely nothing to act like a victim. She placidly looked ahead at Serena while being berated and followed the directions of the umpire during consultations.

I don't know either way for sure if it was a foot fault given the back angle of the most common replay and I haven't seen this ESPN2 or ESPN Brazil replay, but I accept that it's the lineswoman's call.

Is there any reply but "Nowhere has it been proven that she did not foot fault either." The default call is she did unless you find me a camera angle that incontrovertibly proves otherwise.

WHAT??!! Stars have long gotten special treatment in tennis....more so than most other sports. You haven't been watching tennis too long I assume. Application of rules, scheduling, locker rooms, hotels, facilities, practice courts, transportation.....the list goes on and on and on.....
