there can never be one greatest athlete in any case.

different sports require different attributes

even then.. can you just vote for federer please.. it is about representing tennis as a sport... tennis should get more votes.. :-P

Fellow federer fans and tennis fans in general.. please vote for the one guy representing tennis in that list...

I believe Michael Jordan is the greatest athelete ever.. but that is my mind speaking.. my heart wants federer to win more accolades.. :-D

So Please vote for him.

Thanks..

Anderson Silva deserves it. He is by far and a way the most dominant athlete, case closed.

These lists are always subjective. How can you compare who is the 'greatest athlete' when they are playing different sports? Might as well go for Phil Taylor being the greatest athlete, hes won over 15 World titles.

cant stay away from any fed threads eh?

lol

I didn't even know what type of thread it was a before I came in, and I still don't think it is a Fed Thread. It's more about the greatest athlete which is Anderson Silva. Federer is the GOAT in tennis, I don't disagree, and never have said that I disagreed with anybody about that. I just don't think he's the GOAT athlete.

They have an interesting approach.. first 2 atheletes are grouped into a bucket and the winner of each such bucket is announced.. In federer;s bucket he is up against Bo Jackson.. Federer should win it easy.. but if he wins he will go up against Mohammed Ali..

.

who mentioned GOAT???

How on earth can Carl Lewis be in the list after his drugs background? I mean, he achieved a lot but it was discovered later he was taking drugs during his career. Surely that sort of detail should discount him ? I don't see Lance on the list.

"ESPN's quest for greatest athelete of all time.."

No fool, you immediately went into acknowledging fed as tennis goat when none of this is even about tennis.

not to mention GOAT is not GAAT

there is no greatest athlete of all time.

but if I had to mention any Id mention any athletes that could play multiple sports at high levels.

most casual fans dont know about carl lewis and his failed tests.

Can't vote for Fed, I don't see it that way.
Jordan neither, don't have the numbers.

It's still the 'Babe'.

You're the one who proclaimed this as a "Fed Thread", moron

wasnt jackie robinson a great track athlete as well as baseball player?

Id vote for him or Jim Thorpe.

Motorsport is represented by Dale Earnhardt Sr.????

What about Fangio, Senna or Schumacher???

And pity Don Bradman never got to play baseball. His average in cricket is just so far beyond anyone else who has played the game that no doubt he would have been up there with the greatest.

Its espn, they know nothing of european motorsport. RAcing for them is Nascar and maybe Indiecar. Im sure you'll find this voting is heavily skewed towards american interests.

Apparently you don't know Bo.

I voted for Fed because I was told to and I didn't mind doing it anyway. Tennis really doesn't get enough respect. That said, I think Gretzky is the greatest athlete of all time, but that's my hockey bias showing.

WTF.

Willie mays AND Jackie Robinson???

Arent they both in the same sport..or did i get that wrong?

also, bo jackson represents baseball or football? what...?

I don't really consider golf, skateboarding, or NASCAR a sport, they're more of a game.

I'll vote for Federer simply because tennis doesn't get a lot of respect among casual sports fans. I don't think he'll get past Ali though.

He probably won't get past Bo Jackson, especially in an ESPN poll. Not saying he should, just saying he probably won't.

Robinson lettered in baseball, basketball, football, and track at UCLA. There has long existed a narrative that baseball was his fourth most proficient sport. Had baseball, boxing, and horse racing not ruled the sporting landscape back then it's likely he would have been an NFL player.

Federer should go further, but he won't make it out of the first round.

Bo Jackson is more of a legend than a reality, he had unreal raw athleticism.. he played on my hometown royals.. i watched the guy.

But he's been built up over the years by anecdotes and video games to be a lot more than he actually is.

I loved watching bo jackson.. probably more than i enjoy watching pwnerer.

But Bo will win because most of the votes occur in america where bo holds a special place in peoples hearts and no one gives a **** about tennis.

MJ will win even though he shouldn't

Have you watched Bo's 30 for 30?

LOL. Anderson Silva is really good at running away, and fighting in a division in which his physical size gives him certain advantages that are negated when he fights in the proper division. Too bad he's too much of a wuss to move up permanently.

Even Dana White hates him.

LOL at this poll, hahahaha.

A poll that has Dale Earnhardt as the best driver ( Nascar LOL, Please give me a break!) is a completely worthless, it's a joke.

Since when Nascar with all those fat old guys is the top tear of auto racing??

The greatest driver of all time is Michael Schumacher, He hold the records for almost everything in F1, at least the most important records, in the hardest and more competitive auto racing, the one that most drivers dream to have a chance to seat in those cars and drive it, if Michael Schumacher, isn't on the poll, the poll is worthless, but that's ok, We Americans only value what is important here.
