Espys: Federer and Serena win

#1
Has everybody been so focused on tomorrow's matches that they missed this? Congrats to them both but how did either of them win? Is this more of favorite tennis player than best?

It's weird how many people I've spoken to still don't know who Djokovic is.
Twice as many people must know him than they know Nadal since he won double of them than Nadal. LOL. True story is I have friends who don't even like sports that know who Djokovic is.

Yeh plenty of folk who aren't into sport know who he is but the world is so fragmented with interests these days that it seems in even such a popular sport it's hard to become a household name, even when one's in with a shout of GOAThood.

Well done to Fred and Rena anyway. They do appear to be very popular.

I guess so but it's not like he's in the least bit unknown. He's a pretty popular athlete.

Well done to them but it's more about popularity because they weren't the best tennis players these past 12 months. Have to be real here.

Here in Quebec, he is probably the least known, but if they know any tennis they know him especially due to lactose.

How many tournaments or at least finals has Serena even played...

It's an American thing, they probably just see federer and go "well, duh." I have seen parts of it, really inaccurate stuff.

She has played under 10 events since start of 2018 with zero WTA titles in 2018 or 2019

It is obvious that she is the best player. If you apply the social justice handicap factor.
Federer hasn't been the best player on tour since 2017 but no mention of him? Hmmm

Your incessant focus on Serena definitely reeks of emasculation.

It's an internet poll.

The ESPYs are such junk. They give out a million of them and most are in definite 'who cares' territory - the tennis award is probably somewhere between 'Best Tenpin Bowler' and 'Best Viral eSports Moment'.

I mean lactose is big here, and I think it is crap stuff. Plus djoker can't eat it, so Lactose it is.
Lactose and gluten? Guy can't catch a break. At least he has his 14 day plan for physical and mental excellence. How many lots of 14 days have elapsed since this plan was first revealed? No wonder he's so physically and mentally excellent; he's basically stacked HP and MP buffs since 2011.

It's a shame.
This edition should strip it of all it's importance in the eyes of people but it won't.
:sneaky:
Sports fame has this weird thing where it's only partially dependent on achievements and partially on other ********. Fed has that other ******** going for him to an insane degree.

Compared to Djokovic, Fraud is a glorified influencer these days.

Fraud :-D:-D
I think Roger is still doing great as a player all things considered.
It's the media and the fans who keep doing all the insane stuff.
Ofcourse Novak is doing far better than Federer at this point.

Really things seem much more like a cult of personality. Especially when talking about how "casuals don't know Djokovic". Those aren't casuals those are people who don't give a single poop about tennis.

Media just kept selling Fraud cause Fraud was selling well, even after his results went down. It's just the popular thing to not care about tennis but still be fan of rOgEr.

In fact, while we used to have Fedal hype and Fedal rivalry I think Rafa has increasingly gotten the short end of the stick too.

I agree with every word of it.
The biggest problem is that these mass appealing ways of the media, the tournaments and the governing bodies have made it really uninteresting for the people who actually love tennis and like to read good stuff about it on the web. But there's no really good stuff out there. There is rarely any good analysis.

I just made a thread about analysis which didn't inspire toxicity and it got one reply in about an hour while countless threads about who is better than who flood the first page of the forum.

And it's a bad chain reaction. When the media and the authorities don't inspire analysis and everything becomes all about records then the followers of the sport aren't going to be much bothered about those things either and it shows here.
It showed much more on **************** which made me leave it and come here instead and honestly speaking I am not impressed by this place either.
Had to give up Twitter and Reddit too.
In the hindsight I think **************** was better than this place probably. In the constant barrage of senseless threads the place had a few good threads too.

It's not like that I don't enjoy trolling every once in a while but people are really uncool and awfully serious about it.

Another thing that annoys the **** out of me is that we're consistently told this is such a great thing. Tennis would've been fine without the Big 3, and it would've only been really bad if we'd only had 1 of them.

Also, usually when I say things like these I get put down like a really salty hater who should **** off. Maybe not on TTW but elsehwere definitely. Yeah sure I have my biases but you ought to be able to smell that something is fishy in the state of Denmark.
