OK, I checked. Teenagers (born in 1994 or younger) in the top 100:
1- Robson: 19 - ranked 32
2- Keys: 18- ranked 39
3- Svitolina (who??): almost 19- 43
4- Beck: 19- 50
5- Bouchard: 19- 59
6- Vekic: 17- 65
7- Putintseva: 18- 93
To say that it's nothing special being ranked in the top 60 as a teenager is a wild exaggeration. There are only 5 of them.

Just finished watching that game.
Man, man, the quality is just dismal in my opinion.
All about just hitting the ball back in the center of the court, no placement, no strategy, no trying things apart from the odd drop shot, really bad tennis.

This! What match were you guys watching? That match was BETTER than most women's matches. Bouchard was actually working Kerber, going for the lines and corners, and Kerber was playing excellent defense.

Wozniak is a bad example because she's not nearly as young as Bouchard and she's suffered numerous injuries. At one time she was probably touted for potential, but not now. So you are right. The hype machine is in overdrive because Bouchard's the first Canadian female since Carling Bassett (sp?) to do anything on the tour. It's the same with Raonic. Canada does seem to be emerging slightly as more of a tennis nation, but that said, I've always thought Raonic was overrated.

As far as the play, we all know female tennis is a joke besides the 5 GOATS of the wta.
This generation is going to be better than the one before. Serena is more than likely a doper, but that is just hearsay so I won't say that as a fact. Furthermore, she played absolute scrubs for the past couple years to rack up her wins, which is a fact. Wozniacki, Dead Shoulder Sharapova? The WTA has the brightest future since the 80's/90's. Say what you will.
Henin and Hingis were probably the last contenders to push Serena, and there hasn't been any since Aza. Now we are looking at a Top 5 of VERY TALENTED girls, especially Sloane.

Agreed, very good match.
Impressed with her, was in control and could've won but her concentration let her down and also maybe some fitness at the end.
Definitely a great match and a very good one for WTA standards. Don't see how anyone can argue she doesn't have a good game for a 19 year old. Judging by todays performance she's future top 10 material. She dictated points and all Kerber(8) could do was defend and hang in there.

Bouchard has a better body FOR TENNIS than any of the above. Truly athletic.
We'll just have to wait and see.
Her racquet acceleration has hitches, and she loses power in the process from both sides.
She needs me coaching her.

The City of Westmount is a small English city in Montreal. Montreal and the rest of Quebec are very French. People are surprised that English is my first language because my name is Genie Bouchard and it’s a French Canadian name. English is the universal language. But I can speak French pretty well.

She has played very well against top-ranked players, and in 2013 got a set off none other than Serena Williams, which is not easy or always possible even for the likes of Vika or Sugarpova. And at nineteen, that is considerable. Especially because in general players don't blossom in their teens anymore. We're not going to see any 16 year old Grand Slam winners like there were in the past, the sport has changed and it takes longer for players to mature, for their minds to toughen up and mature, and for them to develop the physical fitness level. So the amount of strong mentals and consistency Eugenie has shown, as opposed to other hyped youngsters such as Sloane Stephens, at the tender age of 19, suggest that she will just get better and tougher in the next couple of years. Given that these days it's seldom a direct linear acceleration to the top, they usually have to have a few ups and downs on the way there, I predict top 10 within two years. Getting into the top 10 at 21 ain't too shabby.

Bouchard is perhaps a bit less overrated than Raonic. I think she's got more potential on the WTA than he does on the ATP because she seems to have a bit more ground game than he does and also because I think, the playing field in the WTA is a bit weaker so making it in the top 10 seems more reachable.
She's also overrated because she's kind of pretty. A lot of people think she's the hottest WTA player. While I don't agree with that, to each it's own as this is entirely subjective.
I'm also going to set the record straight on her being "french canadian" just because she's from Quebec. I saw her on a talk show a couple of weeks ago and she struggled with her french because she grew up in Westmount which is an english speaking region of Montreal. Just to set the record straight, Amelie Mauresmo did a rare thing by creating a follow up thread where he apologized for this thread and said he was wrong and that she's a fighter. (Just saw that you were a new user) It was after some match where she really proved herself (can't remember which one).
