Ha! Wow, I had forgotten who I chose. But my 2nd pick but personal favorite came in runner up so that's cool. Spain really played well the whole tournament and deserve this win.

Ha, here's our view, but when you click the link of the Spanish win, you don't even see a pic of the team...you see mostly pics of Ballack instead. That's funny.

This was a good pic though...

Haha Ballack just can't get over that last hump it seems. First barely loses the premiership and champion's cup to man u, now loses the Euro's to Spain, unfortunate for him, but I'm sure that paycheck he gets from Chelsea will be more than enough to make up for it :)

Nice gesture by Ramos. He is wearing a t-shirt with a tribute to late Antonio Puerta, a Seville fellow player who collapsed at the stadium during a match and died shortly thereafter. "Siempre con nosotros": with us, forever.

Wow, the German fans are pretty even minded. I have read some of the comments and I am impressed at how well they have taken it.

Naja, for the most part I think that is the typical response from most Germans, very pragmatic about such things. For most topics, never get too excited or too anger, no extremes. Because still get quick accusations of too much arrogance or "nationalism". People in general seem quicker to vilify anything a German does even if another person or player does the same, and it's ok or not so bad for that one.

Malakas, ich gehe immer mit dem Instinkt auf solchen Dingen mm mm ich wusste viel über die spanische Mannschaft überhaupt nicht :-D

Yeah, I noticed it too. Terrible tragedy for Spanish football and I believe his spirit carried the team to the title.

No extremes? No nationalism? I don't like to bring up a nasty past. But you should check a little further than 10 years ago.

didn't expect anything different from you. Love the stereotypes don't you? If you had ever taken the effort to get to know german people a little bit,and not superficially judging,it would be more than obvious to you that what WALT says is true.

I'm not checking just 10 years ago, why would you assume that? I know Germany's past very well having studied both the good and bad aspects of it, and like most Germans (and we do talk amongst ourselves about it but not necessarily others because of this very reason. I am a citizen only not of descent) know exactly what the past contains. You don't like to bring up the past you said, but you did.

In nothing I said did I say there was no extremes or nationalism by some, where did you read that? Every country, every nationality, all levels of society has their extremists and nationalists.

But I will tell very clearly, and as a journalist who specialized in this exact topic: most Germans refuse to be extreme to any side regarding anything, just for the reason I mentioned in my comment: because there are people who are very quick to bring up the past to throw it in their faces at the slightest opportunity.

>>And just to be very specific, when I first started by interviews regarding this topic with ethnic Germans, boy did I get ignored and brushed off, and side stepped until they understood I was genuinely seeking to know how they feel and wasn't trying to judge. It took me about a year at least to gain that trust. Then from the elderly (my oldest interviewee was 86 to teenagers, though most averaged in their 50s and 60s) on down, the majority were very open and honest about their feelings on the past: sadness, regret, guilt, frustration with those who still try to judge the descendants, and the very understandable exasperation with those who view them negatively based mostly on that past.

That's nice but don't say that Germans have had no history of extremist or nationalistic behavior because that's not true. OK!? That's not stereotyping, that's truth.

So have a number of other countries, but it is often common practice to bash Germans most even if they have a smaller percentage of such than another country. I, for my part, didn't say that in the slightest there are no Germans who display nationalistic or extreme behaviors and I know from discussion Malakas wasn't either. That would be naive. But your response to my post was a clear attempt at condescension but I don't let that kind of thing bother me :)

I think they took it well because they knew Spain were the better team and they simply outplayed them. This was not a heartbreaking loss ala Croatia vs Turkey. The Germans were outclassed, outplayed and were underdogs. There's no shock in this result if you were watching this whole Eurocup. But I find it hard to believe that no Germans have ever taken their losses well in the history of European football. Especially after Bayern Munich blew that Champions League final in 1999 vs Man U.

He has no luck at all!

In 2002 Leverkusen were in the Champions League final and lost, leading the Bundesliga by 5 points with 3 games to go and blew it, and were also in the German Cup final only to lose to Schalke.

If that wasn't bad enough he then went to the 2002 World Cup and was inspirational for Germany, he got booked in the Semi Final meaning he was suspended for the final but he got straight back up and went up the other end to score the goal that sent Germany into the final.. only for them to lose without him.

This year the same thing happened. He lost the Carling Cup final with Chelsea, missed out on the league on the last day of the season, lost the Champions League final on penalties after Terry slipped over and then got to the final of the Euro's only to lose again! lol.

You couldn't make it up.

That's ok with me, just don't say that Germans are even minded with no extreme or nationalistic behavior. Especially watching cry babies Ballack and Lehmann take their loss in a way that a sore loser would be jealous of.
