If one is truly concerned about AGW, BEVs are at the bottom of the list of issues to focus on.
The appeal to climate hysteria is a Red Herring. Utterly irrelevant and insignificant in the context of BEVs.
Our favourite Bernie fails to understand that "economic hardship and inconvenience" should never ever be used when discussing transition to BEVs.
The BEV transition must be seamless causing neither economic hardship nor inconvenience. None. Zero. Let's be very clear on that.

Q: So the transition to more electric vehicles may cause some economic hardship but must be done?

Sanders: Climate change is causing economic issues.
Hurricane Milton and Helene are going to cost billions and billions of your taxpayer dollars. My state of Vermont has been hit with more natural disasters in the last couple of years that we have in the last hundred years at great expense. If we are going to in the long run save money by protecting the planet and ending these extreme weather disturbances, we're going to have to transform our energy system and electric cars are one, just one thing that we got to do.

Frankly, EVs now make sense only for those who can afford a second car or drive very little. There are a lot of such people and that is good. I am not one of them.

Electrification targets that are obvious are fleets, buses, construction vehicles, intra-campus transportation, trains etc. That is proceeding very well.

Really?
Are they really? When exactly did you dream all this up?
No I didn’t dream it up. However if you are prepared to do some research you might find some information both locally, state, federally and globally. Btw have you noticed that all your utilities have gone up a lot in the last 3 years?

It's a case of casting pearls before swine I think.
Happy to accept constructive criticism if it’s warranted however most your posts towards me has been abusive with vulgar language.
I hope you don’t speak to your family and friends like you you do on a forum like this.

The more utilities are privatised, the more prices increase and service decreases.

Britain is a masterclass in badly run privatised utilities, but Australia is catching up.

All our supermarket prices have skyrocketed as private duopolies charge what they can.

And to cap it all, Western governments want to stop cheap Chinese BEVs from global markets.

I believe that with everything you have to look at the model of ownership and who has control.
When I was 18 the first car I ever bought was a Holden ( GM) 6 cylinder Torana for $1000 with a basic red motor. I remember one day driving down the road hearing the fan belt snap and all I had to do in those days is park the car, walk up to the servo, pick up a belt and replace it myself. Same with lots of other parts such as plugs, leads, batteries and oil filters, all easy and cheap to do.
Over the last 4 decades things have got more complex, with less room under the bonnet to work on and the mode of maintenance has shifted past the local mechanic to the dealers and we all know how expensive they can be. Now with the digital age being pushed on us, the new cars and the roads that we drive on have completely tipped the ownership model to the extent that the citizen has no independence, control or freedom, they are completely reliant on the dealer and government agencies with all the surveillance and data collection and I find this very confining and oppressive. I used to enjoy driving, now I find myself having to use a Navman to alert me when the speed limit changes and weather I sm
2km over the speed limit rather than focus on the road and what other motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are doing. It’s a very intrusive and expensive model of ownership and cars are so complex that once you get a particular problem you have to trash the car because it’s too expensive to throw money at it and that’s not particularly environmentally a good practice.
The electric cars and the way they have been developed with digital technology take this whole Ownership model to a new level where they own your car, not you. Electric cars would be fine if the citizen had the autonomy of ownership including the roads and charging rights.
I think these things need to be looked at and each community need to consent before they go down this path of digital living. I believe at present many people who have consented to these ideas have done so in response to fear, coercion. safety and convenience and other psychological operations and that’s never based on rational or factual scientific reasoning.
And just as an additional thought if you think what cheap car ownership used to represent back in a previous time it was all about ease of maintenance and running costs for the people. The original, like it or not, was built for that purpose.

Handing your utilities and services as well as retail to one or two companies is not healthy privatisation. Healthy privatisation is about low barriers of entry with lots of competitors. I have been trying to explain this to you but I’m not sure you understand:
What is happening right now is that small businesses and individuals are being crushed by government corporate collaborations and supported by the mainstream media. This is how globalism, communism and fascism work any you need to understand this. It also what happens when you get ESG forced on to you and why Albo gets upgrades and in turn blocks out other airlines from offering better air tickets.

If all you have is a conspiracy theory, the world looks like a vast conspiracy.
It’s part of the political cycle. Progressive writer Joel Kotkin ( The coming of Neo Feudalism) sets the scene and Ray Dalio billionaire ( The Changing. world order ) both explains what is going on. These cycles have existed before so it’s no conspiracy, it’s more about understanding economic and technological cycles and developments.
You have to look at things from a more wider perspective rather than your team v the other team strategy. There’s also a lot of hybridisation going on in more ways than people want to understand. There will be lots of moral and ethical considerations that came up in the past that will come up again and I think that people need to discuss and be made aware of the consequences.
One more thing - the science you are following may come back to bite you because the science that the elites have access to is quite different.

If your team/other team perspective is so bad, then why did you end post t#865 by criticising Albo?

I've known about Kotkin for decades. He started on the new left, which is where he stole the idea of neo-feudalism from.

There is no science other than that published in science literature, so I can't even imagine what you mean by 'the science that the elites have access to".

Some new batteries are better for the cold, but I wouldn't buy an EV if I lived in a very cold, snowed-in winter climate.

Almost everyone in Australia doesn't have that problem.

You said your next purchase would be a BEV. Australia currently has no tariffs on BEVs. That Viking guy in the video says now is the ideal time to purchase.

If your current ICE vehicle fell apart tomorrow, which BEV would you purchase? New or used?

Go ahead. Tell us. Give us specifics. We will wait.

I'd buy a new Tesla 3. There's too much political risk to a Chinese vehicle. Tesla looks set to dominate charging as well.

BYD is likely half the price of a Tesla. And NSW is building out 500 fast public chargers. These public chargers will work on all models. There is no risk with BYD.

The Albo scenario is an example how things work between central agencies and large corporations.
As far as science is concerned are you aware of 7G technology - is that publicised and what it can do ? What about Crispr?
So is Kotkin a conspiracy theorist as well ? His book is all about the elites and their power and collaboration with global entities such as the ones I wrote about. Everybody knows that the sting is on,

BYD Seal $26900 drive away - probably even cheaper soon. Probably half the price of a Renault 5

The Renault will be as dear as a Tesla 3, but maybe not as reliable.

The corporate media wants a Dutton Government.

That's all the Albo scenario amounts to.

Kotkin moved too far right. There are better accounts of corporate feudalism available.

The point would be that trade in spare parts would be affected and even local dealerships would close.

The Chinese Government has already requested Chinese companies not to build factories in Europe until they agree on tariffs.

Given how much Trump and Cruz, your favourite dunderhead, rant about China I'm surprised by your ignorance.

Dunderhead. What does that have to do with owning a BYD?
Will the Australian government round up all BYD vehicles?

No way do I want a war with China and I’m not an agitator. All I ever want is my independence and freedom and be left alone by the central agencies. I like to maintain wholistic health, eat organic produce, grow my own fruit trees and live close to beautiful scenery, read books, talk about classic cars, play tennis and catch a few waves and help others to achieve their independence. Maybe one day while I’m up the coast I will give you a hit of tennis.

PCs can afford software glitches, but cars not so much.

I'm confident that these can be eliminated, but maybe they need a black box.

Planes are, after all, "fly by wire" and I don't see people queueing up at the harbour for ship travel.

Tariffs are a matter of policy. These policies can change. At present there are no Australian tariffs on BEVs and will likely remain that way. You are simply speculating without any basis that there will be high tariffs imposed in the future.

And stop equating tariffs and so- called "trade wars" with military wars. Those are two completely separate issues.

We do not expect any military conflict with the CCP. It is highly unlikely. Except if there was an invasion of Taiwan. But the CCP seems to be behaving itself in that regard. That is a red line that the CCP should never cross.

American and EU tariffs are de facto acts of war. Trump will cross every one of China's red lines, so expect conflict and skyrocketing cost of living increases.

It's not a good time to buy Chinese products that require long-term support like a BEV.

I said your attitude to China was dangerously bellicose, so your reply seems to confirm this.
What you are doing here is making up fake characterisations about me to demonise my profile so I look bad and therefore people shouldn’t believe my posts due to having a credibility issue. It’s like conducting a fake smear campaign that many leftists do when they can’t handle facts and truths.
It’s completely fake what you are saying and even when I clarified my position you choose to continue your line of attack.
Conversely I could say that in the last 10 years you have constantly been aggressively attacking and hating liberty, freedom and western countries yet you still like living in these places.
Off course I’m not interested in employing such tactics because I try to be kind and share ideas and discuss topics rather than tell people what they are, and the reason is because I want to improve lives and have positive interactions.

Yes it does:

You are unapologetically hostile to China, so naturally you claim my balanced assessment is support for totalitarianism.
