Trump doesn't believe in tariffs. He just swings his dick hoping people will be impressed. There will be no return to domestic manufacturing. The working class got stiffed as usual.

On the other hand, tariffs are useful against the EU and China in geopolitical terms only as they do nothing for domestic manufacturing.

The EU and China need to form a de facto alliance if Europe is smart.

Proven wrong within just a few minutes.

How is America re-asserting the Monroe Doctrine got anything to do with the free world?

And Mexico is building a drought-proof alternative to the Panama Canal, so Panama is finished.

Panama caved too. They will not renew their contract for China to oversee the Panama Canal. Good news for the free world.

China doesn't need Panama. It was doing it a favour. And the Canal is drought-stricken. Countries will be using the Mexican link soon.

The Dow drops 2% and the Donald wets his shorts. Time for an American in big-boy pants!

Meanwhile, the good people of China fed up with American belligerence struck back:

China retaliates against US tariffs with additional tariffs of its own: 15% on US coal and LNG, 10% on farm equipment and autos

In somewhat more detail:

If you're just catching up on the news that China has slapped counter tariffs on US goods, here's a quick look at the measures Beijing has imposed on some imports:

  • A 15% tariff on coal and liquefied natural gas
  • A 10% tax on crude oil, agricultural machinery, pickup trucks and large-engine cars
  • Announced an anti-monopoly investigation into Google
  • Placed export controls on 25 types of rare metal products
  • Adding PVH Corp, the holding company for Calvin Klein and other brands, and US biotechnology company Illumina to its "unreliable entities" list

3 months post election result and bart still crying about trump
Yes the world of politics is a game of swings and roundabouts. When you’re hot you’re hot and when you’re not you’re not. Unfortunately for Bart he has had his fun in the sun and now he is in the second camp. This is bound to happen when he comes to a tennis forum and pushes his ideology at any opportunity available. Even a racquet review or player drama somehow becomes an opportunity to turn it into a political speech or attack.

It's interesting, that human knowledge itself changes the morphology of the planet. Human capital - and crucially human knowledge, are our evolutionary niche.
There's no possibility for correction in the north, and hence it lacks one of democracies central virtues - the possibility of positive change through error correction.

There's that fantastic quote from the priest and geologist Antonia Stoppani 'the creation of man was the introduction of a new element into nature, of a force wholly unknown in earlier periods'. I had thought something similar for a long time, but it was great to come across someone likeminded, and such a visionary, given the age in which he lived.

Tariffs are taxes, agreed, but that means Trump is running a BIG TAX government.
There is a distinction between direct taxes on American consumers and import tariffs which may or may not be passed on to the American consumer.
Let's examine the specific case of your favourite CCP BEVs. The CCP may choose to lower prices and fully absorb the tariff costs.

Below-Cost Pricing Of CCP BEVs

  1. Massive Subsidies:
The CCP provides significant subsidies to BEV manufacturers, enabling them to lower prices well below what would otherwise be sustainable. This includes direct financial support for production and incentives for consumers. BYD's Seagull, priced at just $12,000 in China, benefits from such subsidies, allowing it to compete aggressively on price.
  2. Overproduction and Price Wars:
China's BEV industry is highly competitive, with over 200 EV producers and far more production capacity than the domestic market can absorb. This has led to growing inventories and a "bitter price war" among manufacturers. Companies are slashing prices to maintain market share or offload excess inventory, sometimes selling vehicles at or below production cost.
  3. Export Strategy:
To address domestic oversupply, Chinese automakers have aggressively expanded into export markets. Selling vehicles at lower prices—even at a loss—helps them gain a foothold in international markets like Europe and Latin America.

BYD Seagull

BYD Seagull sells for $12,000 in China but would cost significantly more without government subsidies.

Implications

  • For U.S. Tariffs: If tariffs are imposed on Chinese BEVs, manufacturers like BYD may choose to absorb the tariff costs by further lowering export prices, leveraging subsidies and cost advantages to remain competitive.
  • For Global Markets: This pricing strategy has made Chinese BEVs highly attractive in emerging markets but poses challenges for U.S. and European automakers struggling to compete on price while maintaining profitability.
Chinese automakers often sell BEVs at or below cost due to heavy subsidies, overproduction pressures, and fierce competition. This strategy allows them to dominate the global EV market while potentially absorbing tariff costs when entering new markets like the U.S.

And yet BEV Bart falsely claims that tariffs are hurtful to the CCP and amount to an act of war against its people. So absurd.

Whether it be BEVs or household appliances, mandates from Federal Bureaucrats must always be vigorously opposed.

Consumer choice must be protected.

Ted Cruz Moves To Put Biden-era Water Heater Mandate on Ice

Cruz emphasized the need to protect consumer choice and prevent federal bureaucrats from dictating appliance standards.

"Once again, Democrats are waging a war on household appliances under the guise of combating climate change,” said Cruz.

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas is leading the charge to permanently repeal a Biden-era regulation targeting natural gas water heaters.

The Biden administration’s rule, issued by the Department of Energy in the waning days of the administration, imposed strict efficiency standards that would have phased out many gas-powered water heaters in favor of electric models. Critics warned that the regulation was less about energy savings and more about forcing Americans toward higher-cost electric alternatives.

President Donald Trump has already signed executive orders reversing several Biden-era environmental regulations, including stringent energy efficiency rules. Cruz’ resolution would ensure that the mandate would go away for good.

In a statement, Cruz emphasized the need to protect consumer choice and prevent federal bureaucrats from dictating appliance standards.

“This rule, rushed through by the Biden administration in its final days, does more harm than good. It forces American families to choose between costly, high-end models or less efficient alternatives—limiting their options and undermining their freedom of choice. American families deserve access to affordable, reliable appliances without unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles.

Elon is a free speech crusader. Has done a wonderful job with Twitter.
Given that the CCP has a very difficult relationship with free and open open discourse, not to mention the risk it poses to national security risk, it would be best if Elon bought TikTok.

American bombs destroyed Gaza so Trump merely follows Biden. Yet another country Trump is trying to steal!

Trump wants peace. It is the IDF and Bibi that leveled Gaza. And they would have done it with or without Biden's weapons.

It is now unlivable. It was already one of the most impoverished areas on the planet. With centuries of never ending conflict. Surely it cannot be allowed to return to its terrorist government.

Now it is time to rebuild. It will now be converted to a major tourist attraction. This plan is absolutely brilliant.
When Donald Trump suggested making Gaza the "Riviera of the Middle East," he envisioned transforming it into a luxurious, world-class tourist destination. This proposal involved leveling Gaza's war-torn areas, rebuilding it as an international hub, and resettling Palestinians elsewhere temporarily or permanently.

We kindly refer you to the New York Times recent admission that the former leader has been suffering from severe dementia and has been severely incapacitated since 2020 and the mainstream media knew all about it but worked tirelessly to cover it all up (the mystery is which unelected cabal was actually running the country for four years while this puppet was busy licking his ice cream cones).

It is the biggest scandal in American history and it is the reason why legacy media is dying and Twitter is flourishing.

This is just not happening. Israel is trying to take over Gaza, not America, Trump just wants a one hundred metre beach front property to build a Mar-a-Lago.

Please don't kill the messenger my dear.

News reports are that America will own it. America will rebuild it. America will transform it into a tourist paradise. It will happen because there is no other solution. The two sides have been at war for centuries. Obviously your favourite Israel will never be accepted as rebuilders.

But an international peace keeping and rebuilding force led by America will be accepted. Much like the British ruled the region in the 1920s.

HONG KONG/SEOUL/SHANGHAI, Feb 5 (Reuters) -

The U.S. Postal Service said it would temporarily suspend parcels from China and Hong Kong, after President Donald Trump ended a trade provision this week used by retailers including Temu and Shein to ship low-value packages duty-free to the U.S.

The Trump administration imposed an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods that came into effect on Tuesday and moved to close the "de minimis" exemption that allows U.S. shoppers to avoid paying tariffs for shipments below $800.

The extra tariff and the elimination of de minimis follow repeated warnings by Trump that Beijing was not doing enough to halt the flow of fentanyl, a dangerous synthetic opioid, into the U.S.

Reuters reported previously that Chinese suppliers use the duty-free provision to export chemical materials for fentanyl by disguising them as gadgets and other low-cost goods.

Don't know what to believe. It may or may not be true. But it is the basis for these tariffs.
Reuters and other media outlets unanimously agree that China is a primary source of fentanyl precursors.
Very odd given that the CCP executes thousands of its citizens for trafficking.
Tell us your position on these executions for non-violent drug offenses. Do you support this?
