Well we all know that girls player at slightly lower levels... like an NTRP 4.5 male should beat a NTRP 4.5 female pretty easily.. 6-2, 6-1ish.. and the NTRP 5.5 males should beat NTRP 5.5 females 6-1, 6-0.. anyway you ever got spanked by a girl in your same "level".. was she just too consistent and your power was neutralized?

I've played very few girls in singles.. played lots of them in mix doubles.. usually their serve sux, their groundstrokes are very consistent.. return of serve is pretty weak too.

Yes, they usually have excellent groundstrokes, but weaker vollies and serves, and can be overwhelmed with a big serve. They play within themselves and don't overhit like guys do. Have lost sets to 3 different women who were state champs. Lost this winter to a former NCAA finalist who placed her shots inches from the lines and was extremely consistent and handled my flat serve on a fast surface so I was very impressed with her game.

ya man the girl can really screw you once the point is nutrual. I dont know why women have sucha good groundies.

Because they got no power so they just hit it consistently.. they also don't put much heavy spin on the ball so their strokes tend to be more flat than heavy topsin.. his men like to kill the ball way too often and although it looks cool to the spectator, sometimes overhitting too much is not so cool either.

interesting, although politically-incorrect question..

woman can often have "better strokes and mechanics" at the same level...

but i concur that women don't have as much power and more importantly can't handle the power/spin.

I've lost to everykind of player under the sun. It's funny how when someone is at a low level, slowly throughout the match their level rises while yours can come down severely.

I played against a girl ranked in 200's in the world. She hits the ball solid. She would only practice with me. She never want to play a match with me. I guess she has her aura to keep. Nothing to gain from playing with me. I think I can probably hold my own. I am a 4.5 player.

One thing I want to say. She is in her 30's. But those chronic sun exposure!!!!! She has leather neck. Her skin looks like an old lady in her 60's.

Ladies, tennis is a skin damaging sport. Protect your skin!!!!! It is a life long sport. But for cry out loud, protect your skin !!

I usually don't like playing matches against girls. If I do, I'll probably get too conscious seeing that I have too much pride to lose to her, and it sucks if you beat a cutie than she'll never forgive you, hehe

I have hit with girls and I agree that they can't handle the pace as much, but are actually extremely consistent off the ground. Girls can make good hitting partners for that reason.

Not in singles.
In mixed doubles yes.
Played this ITN 3, grade 2 pennant girl and lost 6-4 in doubles.
She was very fit and fast.
Had an effective well placed but not overpowering kick serve.
Had consistent deep solid powerful groundies.
She could volley and smash ok.
She'd hit these wicked short topspin angled shots pulling me out wide. :(

She was simply a higher level of player.
There was no shame in letting her have a win for once against a guy.
Besides she distracted me with her looks. mmmmmm. :D

the big problem I think women have is the movement. just ***e around with that. just give them some drop shot to chase down. they are done. The important thing to remamber when you playing with a woman is not give them them rythem. Its very hard to hit througha woman!

Thats how i beat most women I played with. most women are baseliners and like most baseliners they have trouble running forward.

Yeah, I won't date women who fake bake or get too much sun as their skin will look like crap as they age. Already many of the women in their mid 30's that I date have wrinkly skin so I look 10 years younger than them. Protect your skin! Drink more water, use more sunscreen, take in less sun, and use less makeup. Thanks,

good point, you see this only happens to white girls. FOr some reason those white girls can not take sun. if you marry a girl from east europe pale, blond. keep your honey away from the sun/ away from beach or else it turn hard and red. something to think about guys

Yep get them off the baseline if you can with dropshots is the easier way to beat a consistent baseliner female. I used to play a little chugger who could run everything down and was pretty even baseline vs baseline against me. I found the easiest way to win was to make her come to net. I could also go to net myself but she had decent passing shots so it was only a slight advantage for me. But this was my usual way to practice on my net game even though the easiest way to win was to bring her to net where she was too small and too weak with vollies to cover lobs and passing shots.

Just a little head's up to yall...

I know a girl, a very good friend/tennis partner of mine for many years, who could probably kick the crap out of most guys at her 'level.'

We're both in high school, she's 14 and I'm 16. We were in a group lesson recently at the local club together, large group (12 kids or so). Nearly all of them high school varsity level, very talented and competitive. All of them male.

I showed up at this group with my friend, and instantly I saw the looks at her. As if to say "What the heck is she doing here?" I just grinned.

By the end of the first session they were all wondering what had happened. She had beaten them, and badly. Not with simple consistency and spin. Pure, unadulturated pace. I'm talking massive forehand, painting the lines and you're wondering why all these tennis balls are flying past you at the speed of light.

Just a little head's up...girls aren't all spin and consistant groundstrokes.

I have never lost a singles match to a female with the same NTRP level as me. However, I used to practice with a gal that was a 5.5 (I was a 4.5 at the time) and we used to play close sets and usually split. Also, way back when I was a young junior, I lost to a girl in a tennis camp tournament that was a state doubles champ... but I'm guessing I was a 3.0-3.5 and she was a 4.0-4.5 at the time.

Generally speaking, I think that a male player's NTRP is equal to that of one full step higher on the female's NTRP. (In other words, 4.5 for a guy is equal to a 5.5 for a woman.)

Got beaten by a couple girls before. They didn't hit hard, with much spin, or placement but they just hit. They returned every shot no matter how powerful.

I don't think they like heavy topspin for some reason, it kicks up and they get frustrated with it. They also don't like lobs to their backhand.

Almost lost to this girl, we played a 3 setter with 3rd set being tie-breaker.

She was #1 girls varsity singles, her record was 16-1. Which is extremely good. But, she couldn't handle my variations on forehands and attacked my backhands. So late in the game I kept running around and smacking forehand winners down the line.

It was 5-7, 6-4, and I barely won in the tie-breaker.

i was an assistant for our girls team and i played their #1 singles girl. who was very good and consistant... i lost 4-6 then lost a practice tiebreaker. i was ashamed. playing girls is just different, i didnt want to beat her either... but i think if i really tried, it would still be a close match. she took out the #70 girl in mid westregion during the season i think.

i haven't LOST to a girl before, but there's this REALLY REALLY good girl i played. she's f'ing TEN years old, ranked 15th in the region in the girls 14 division, lost in 3 sets in the 2nd round of a Girls 14 National Open, and got to the 3rd round of a Girls 16 Challenger. its crazy, she's like a FREAK of nature. she's consistent yea, but she must be the strongest 10yr old ever.

(i beat her 6-2, but a close 6-2)

I played boy 12 who is like 4.11 hight. He was lefty and like top 20 in the east. I can beat this kid like 6.3 because he wasnt tall enough to take my high havey top spins. so do the same with any short junior girls.. havey havey toppers.

Oh well. I'm a girl, but it's true that natural skeletal structure, muscles, and whatever are a huge advantage to men.

I'm a 4.5. My flat serve usually bounces just short of the back fence, and on good days will reach it around half the time. Just barely, though. I've got a kick serve that breaks to the right a little (not a full twist, though), and a good slice serve.

I've got good volleys and reflexes, and consistent drives on both wings for groundstrokes. I don't use heavy topspin.

I lose to men supposedly the same level at about 6-3, 6-4 most of the time. I have beaten men at the same level VERY rarely, just because they took too many risks.

I'd say if the girl doesn't have a weapon, but is consistent and plays as you described (that's...almost all girls, I concede) then the score would play out just as you said. Occasionally, when the girl's playing style just matches up, and she actually has a nice weapon, then the score would go up, and you'd get a win once in a long while.

By the way, I don't necessarily have problems with heavy topspin. I'm average height for a girl, at 5'6". But when you get the males who really just whack the hell out of the ball (always always not especially consistent) I often just can't hold out unless they're really adding on the errors.

At the lower NTRP levels, I was able to beat almost all males, simply because they couldn't keep it in play, period. I'm a 4.5 at the moment, and I can already say the difference in men is MUCH different. I have to play smart, and really focus on attacking weaknesses with different spins, whatever...often just to have a chance at a few games.

When playing against men, I usually lose when they're serving, simply because they can dictate the point from the start unless I get some kind of spectacular lucky return off.

I, a man, have actually lost several times to the same woman, despite my higher skill level and the fact that I can beat my male partners consistently. This woman is just unflappable, always in position -- inherently, more of an innate jock than I am. Invariably I crumble or overhit when faced with her constancy.

"No way! I don't lose to girls" sounds kinda corny... but yeah they might have better more consistent strokes but they're just overpowerred esp serve and groundstrokes. Actually usually if they WERE my level, I'd give them plenty of chances... but there's so little girls where I play at =( and the few girls near my level are usually in the college team therefore higher level than me, therefore I have to play seriously or I won't be returning anything... but I felt really bad one time when I followed a heavy deep&wide-ball with a drop shot to the opposite corner and the girl ran all the way and netted it.

Somehow my competitiveness just plummets down drastically when I'm playing a girl... At least half my shots are reduced to 60% effort.
