"Everybody loves Federer" —John McEnroe

the elegance of fed cannot be manufactured, so as rafa's fight spirit and djoker's calmness/resilience. that is why fed is my GOAT though i am a rafa fans and djoker is the most successful OAT

Mr GOAT, insecure as a little schoolgirl

It's funny to me Meddy brought this up in regards to Djoko, but I was thinking the exact same thing watching these young guns all week - "What would Roger do?"

Its astonishing to me the kind of uninspired tennis being played at the top of the sport while having Federer set an example over 20 years for them to emulate.

To wit, the hesitation to step inside the baseline, take the ball on the rise, slice or come to net as part of a deliberate effort to construct a point is just lacking!

Watching players like Shapo or Meddy hit shots from awkward positions, falling backward, or like FAA or Alcaraz, pulling the trigger without a good court position earned through maneuvering the opponent smartly, or the endless backhand rallies where these guys are content to expend energy looking for UEs from the other guy, .... it's just sad.

I kept thinking, how did Roger make it look all so effortless, elegant, efficient and exciting. Fhck I miss the guy.
Excellently summed of everything.

Fed is a emotion of elegance.

Everybody loves Federer, except for 99% of Nadal fans and 99% of Djokovic fans.... plus the fans who don't like the Big3.
Or 100% actually, hard to imagine any of them loving Federer, maybe 1% "like" him.

Bit subjective of course, but I take your points.

And if we can get to the point again that the game's top stars become caricatures of sorts... it's probably for the best.

Actually Federer is the definition of manufactured, because most of his shots are extremely orthodox and text book.
Whereas Nadal's forehand (the most famous forehand ever, and nobody has been able to copy it),
serve (very unqiue, nobody with Nadal's serve),
and backhand (a left-handed tennis player using the power distribution of a right-handed person for 2-hander) are not orthodox at all.
Nadal is the most unique tennis player ever, and is about to have sole possession of the slam record....

he has every shoot, text book or not. just like nadals forehand, nobody ever copied his, so lol at your argument there.

and the eye-hand cordination (90sq inch racket in a time where the rest of the elite plays granny sticks, hello?), the understanding of the game, the technical skill, it's what we call tennis genius.

Nadal on the other hand is the bonnafide athlete of tennis; hard working doode, relying on his physical strengths that he amassed through meticoulious training (manufacture as you like to call it), plus the occasional trenbologna sandwich that turned the skinny 17.5 years old into a muscular machine in a couple months.

He’s an arrogant aloof elitist. (Nothing to like about humans like that. Sure we can admire his game, don’t have to respect the man however. I lost all respect for federer after the2009 Australian

It was only fitting he lost all GOAT titles and to his sworn enemy LOL (and hell Nadal may surpass it too in 2 more matches( Karma always rears it’s ugly head.
What happened?

If Federer was never born, Nadal would've been the GOAT by 2012 and retired before 30 after breaking Sampras' Slam record.

A sage assessment.

Nadal is Nadal because of Nadal.

And without Nadal, tennis would just be...

Hopefully we'll find out soon! :D

It's interesting that Federer's daughters are only 5 years younger than Coco Gauff. Would be interesting if one or both turned pro in the next 2-3 years while their Dad is still playing.

Seems interesting

Coco Gauff is 5 years older to Federer's daughters
Carlos Alcarez is just 6 years older to Federer's daughters

idk i feel rafa fans appreciate fedr too since rafa and fedr are pals

Naaa
Most of them don't like Fed.

Rafa's fanbase was built on his ferocious nature of competing on Clay, brutal athleticism and somewhat humble introverted approach to life.

These are not the set of values imbibed via Federer, Roger's fanbase was built on pure artistry.

I think the Rafa fans more so have issue with the Federer fans than Federer himself.
