Expectations for Carlos Alcaraz in 2024

The chances are that he might not win even 1 slam next year.

He's not good enough on fast courts yet so AO is out of the question.

The French very much depends on Nadal. If he's healthy and in good form, Alcaraz is not beating him.

Don't see him defending Wimb.

USO is 50/50 and it depends on whether he's learnt to pace himself better.

And that is without even mentioning that he's still very much the underdog against Oldovic until proven otherwise.

As a fan of .... i expect him to be dominated thoroughly next year... wtf?
That makes sense to me. I am the biggest Rune fan on here but have zero expectations for him to win a slam or even a Masters 1000 next year. Being a fan of a certain player doesn't mean hating their rivals or having ridiculous expectations for them. Realism makes more sense, no?

He can win his first 500? No?

It’s going to be tougher with both Nadal and Novak, Sinner is ready to do something big also.

With that said he could always surprise us at the AO

But Sinner is stronger on a hard court and his qualities are stronger than Alcaraz - Sinner has a better serve, backhand, return of serve and equal forehand. 48-9 on hard vs 28-9

Sinner will dominate in the 0-7 shot rally length on a hard court over Alcaraz and im picking him over Alcaraz at all hard court events - indoor and outdoor
4-4 head to head on hard courts and Alcaraz 1-0 in slams against Sinner. I guess Beijing means everything now?

I find it super interesting how Sinner gets hyped to the moon compared to the much more accomplished Alcaraz who is 2 years younger. I guess people are just bored with Alcaraz's success already and are latching on to the next great hope since Sinner is all hope at this point and hasn't accomplished much of anything.

His 2023 Hard Court slam results are two losses in the 4th round to Tsitsipas and Zverev, his HC Slam wins include these juggernauts.... Edmund, Etcheverry, Fucsovics, Hanfmann, Sonego and can barely move anymore Stan The Former Man. Not exactly a Hard Court King at this point in his career. I guess we'll see if all this hype actually leads to something meaningful in the most important tournaments in 2024.

The problem isn't Alcaraz potential or level.

The problem is that admiting Alcaraz is great goes against the agenda that Fedal fans are desperate to create.

They say "How such a great player can lose to a 36 year old Djokovic? He must be a mug!".

But the reality is different, and it has been smacking their faces for quite a good time now, Alcaraz is a great player, he can play at the highest levels of tennis, and so can the 36 year old Djokovic.

My question with Alcaraz is whether his results will continue to be as high now that he has a target on his back. As competition continues to increase, he will be playing against players who have nothing to lose when they go up against him.

He will continue to dominate the tour on most surfaces. What sets him apart from the rest is not only his game, is his mental focus. Plus he is improving on his flaws. The jump he made on grass this year was monumental, perhaps next year he gets better on indoor conditions.

The big 3 will be him, Novak and Sinner. Perhaps Rune will be joining then soon considering the elite team he has now. But on slow surfaces expect Alcaraz to be the favorite.

True, but he still hasn't found a way to handle him better.
He beat him in a Wimbledon final at age 20. Not sure what "handling him better" entails. There is no bigger stage in tennis than that. Djokovic couldn't manage to win Wimbledon until he was 24.

Well, Carlos has defeated Djokovic in a Masters 1000 semi and in a Wimbledon final, their H2h is only 3-2 forDjokovic. It's not like Carlos hasn't had massive wins against him.

If you can't sweep an OLD MAN at least 7-0 in a five-match sequence, then you're no ATG and you should basically retire from tennis in shame. No only did Alcaraz fail to beat Methusalkovic more often than they played, but he even LOST to him several times. Embarrassing! :-D

Tough talk from a FED Fan?

31 year old Agassi beat Federer in USOpen. He was OLD Man. Nole took care of his physique and will run circles around 30+ Agassi.
SO I must say FEDERER IS A LOSER.

What a troll

Alcaraz wins 2 slams next year. RG, USO.

He def is the real deal. Lost to a zoning Medvedev in USO. Won his first ever Wimbledon finals. Guy is an outlier and will continue to shine.

He only lost to cramps in RG. He was the overwhelming fav to win the tournament. In 24, he probably wins it.

No Mickey Mouse tournament results can change that.

Only rivalry to look up at slams will again be Djokovic Alcaraz or Nadal Djokovic , if Nadal is fit.

Rest is all hype

People tend to be fans of players who were at their peak in the fan's youth. Federer is thousands of years old, and I am not. So, I am not a Methusalerer fan. He was already an ancient has-been by the time I started following tennis, so I preferred younger and more dynamic players. For example, when I first followed Wimbledon in 1987, Federer was already six years old, and as a result he was way past his peak and prime.

Yeah, only on TTW is winning 2 slams by age 20 and becoming the youngest ever #1 "embarrassing."

Top tier analysis here as always.

Only on TTW do we know that anyone who isn't an ATG is, morally speaking, already retired and that anyone who loses even one match against an old player can never become a true ATG. I don't know what to tell you. I guess the rest of the world lacks our sparkling insight.

Again-- exemplary top shelf analysis. Poor trolling in any event.

Your "logic" proves Ivan Lendl is no ATG since he lost his first 8 matches against Connors when Connors was 28-31 years old and Ivan was 8 years younger. And believe me, in 1980, any ATP pro age 28+ was considered a geriatric.

Never mind Lendl won the last 17 matches he played against Jimbo and is without any doubt an ATG.

If Alcaraz wins 10 slams, then there will be no troll who can deny his ATG status. So what losses he gather at age 20/21 won't matter.

Their matches still hang by a thread so Carlos still hasn't found a consistent solution to beat him. Next year the margins may just not go his way.

I realize I'm not an objective Alcaraz fan, but I have hope for a rebound early in 2024. It's just hard to imagine that he can't return to his peak level from late 2022 early 2023 because his issues at the end of 2023 are entirely fixable. His shot selection, patience, and touch on drop shots just seemed to vanish. While I'm sure these are not easy fixes, they're not an uncorrectable lack of talent.

USO 2022 was an exception in 2022. These two years the first half has been his time.

HOGWASH! He lost 6-1 6-1 against someone who was already 63, and what's worse is that he cramped after two sets. There's just no coming back from that. Alcaraz can never become an ATG, regardless of how many "slams" he wins in the inflation era (aka the Weakest Era of All Worlds, Actual and Possible). You and I could win slams too if we only had to beat the likes of RUDD and De Manure. I'd seriously consider turning pro just to wrack up a few slams, if I hadn't learned on TTW that there's no point being a tennis pro unless you're an ATG who can beat younger ATGs.

Lendl is probably a low-level TTW ATG despite that embarrassing start, as at least he showed by his early record against McEnroe that he could hang with a true ATG in his peak and prime. But you're right that he should be ashamed of losing to that old man so many times, and should accept that his later career vulturing against an even more ancient Connors does not make up for it. I remember watching him beat Connors 3-6 6-3 6-2 6-0 at the US Open 1992. Admittedly, Lendl was using a Zimmer by then himself, but even so, losing the first set against someone who had just turned 50 was frankly unacceptable. He only even won the final ten games in a row because the motor broke on poor ol' Jimmy's wheelchair.

You are also right, no doubt, that I should work on my trolling capabilities!

Who cares what TTW thinks about Lendl? 80% of people here couldn't even identify him from a photo, let alone ever watch one of his matches. The actual real world universally recognizes Lendl as an ATG and legend. 8 slams, 270 weeks at #1 and 94 titles is eloquent proof. :)

I agree! When I first started following tennis in 1986, Lendl was the dominant world number 1 and remained so for another year and a half. Then he was number 1 again, although less dominantly so, in 1989. There wasn't a player who approached his level of long-term dominance again until Sampras and you'd have to say that it was 1994 before he had the same aura of sustained domination that Lendl had in 1986, so that meant that for the best part of the first decade that I followed tennis, nobody had been as dominant as Lendl.

I should add: while I respected Lendl a lot, I was an Edberg fan, so I rarely cheered for Lendl, except for on some of the occasions when he played Becker (I went back and forth between him and Becker, as I later did with Sampras and Agassi and later still Federer and Djokovic). I was a very disappointed nine-year-old when Lendl beat Edberg in the 1987 Wimbledon semi-finals! And if I'm honest, I'm still not over Edberg's injury in the 1990 Australian Open final!

The thing that I was "trolling" in the previous posts is a certain style of poster on TTW, whom I find ridiculous with their constant belittling of any player who isn't as good as Federer/Nadal/Djokovic. I'd call it "lampooning" rather than "trolling," but either works! :)
