Explain Nadal and Serena

Both lead each tour in TUE's, could have something to do with their build

They lead the tour in a lot of things, like breaking many previous records.

Which does have something to do with their build.
(but is supposed to be detrimental)

Try as you might, you cannot sum up the greatness that is Serena looking at one attribute. She is the most complete player on the women's side we've seen in a long time with no weaknesses to speak of and excels at everything anyone would want in a tennis player.

And she did it with all that extra detrimental 'bulk'.

Confirmed soy boy. Though, he did look a lot different before the biological passport policy. Probably just a coincidence.

He's the Bull of Barcelona!

What's Roger then?

The Swede of Suede?

I can't explain how Serena has become the way she is, but Nadal is a mirage. He has an absolutely jacked left arm and muscley legs and togethor these make him look bigger than he actually is, but if you find photos of him with his top off he doesn't look like a bodybuilder at all.

Your ASSumption is erroneous.

The 'case' is Serena and Nadal being too bulky that it's supposed to slow them down.

And Football players are a fantastic examples that large 'bulky' muscled = very fast and agile.
(irrespective of how that 'bulk' was obtained, to put it mildly)
This seems a rather extreme case of taking a statement at face value. To me it's obvious that the idea that it is 'supposed' to slow them down is an insinuation of means by which this supposition could be mitigated. This isn't just about how the bulk is achieved; it's about how such agility can manifest in spite of it - both of these can obviously be promoted by performance enhancing drugs, and perhaps exclusively at the highest levels. Oh and your attempt at mocking my closing remark was absolute sh!te.

to me they are tennis oxymorons. I mean that most tennis players tend to be lithe and flexible and fast. But Serena/Nadal look like body builders compared to the rest of the tour. How can their body type be so different (mind you closer to mine). I mean Marty fish got so much better when he cleaned up his diet and got 20lbs lighter.

Nadal to me is even more impressive because he is a power player who runs everything down.

Very good question...the curious case of Nadal and Serena...

Wonder what kind of substances might help them

Rafa has good physique but far from being big. A lot of dudes in my gym are bigger than him without looking like a bodybuilder.

Serena is big yeah but it's not like the WTA challenges her.

Do most of the people in your gym play tennis? play tennis well? at the world class levels?
Compared to me, rafa is a toothpick (I played offensive line in college football).

The point is that compared to other top tennis players he is more muscular. as is Serena. Why does it work for him, when Roddick, Fisch etc. were thought to be heavy and needed to loose weight to be better players.

I thought the points on Serena were interesting (not the attacks), but that she is significantly more powerful than most of the WTA.

Because Rafa has a well-proportioned body.

They're both naturally big, as Nadal is somewhat one-sided, which working out helps prevent,
and Serena lacks the bicep vein, which working out brings out.

And yes, they aren't as big as bodybuilders, but standing next to your average pro, they look huge.

Personally, I'd love to see just one pro with a natural bodybuilder physique.

It would be quite a sight to behold! (a pro with 17 inch guns)

The extra weight got blamed because the meathead coaches, and a lot of other people in Tennis,
ASSume it's detrimental to Tennis players.

Ironically, it's just the opposite that is true.
(but coaches/trainers/players can't accept)

She's also significantly more massive, from mostly muscle, as any other pro.

I wouldn't be surprised if, at 5'8", that she weighs close to 200lbs.

Of course, she's just plain lucky to have done well with all the detrimental bulk.

Ben Johnson proved bulk did not slow sprinters down...

That's because he had lots of fast twitch muscle, not 'bulk'.

Now, what's between a person's ears who thinks that lots of
fast twitch muscles will slow a person down .....

.... is truly 'bulk', leading to bunk suppositions.
