ext2hander
Rookie
Its been another 3 years since my last post on my unique Extended two-hand backhand (E2HBH) in 2018, so its time for a new video of highlights of my two-hander with its novel grip. Aside from unusual grip, which gives a 3.5-4" longer swing radius, the stroke gives a longer path forward through the hitting zone, before wrapping around. Whereas most two-handers do not elevate at the hips at contact, my stroke is hit rising at contact ~6-8" elevation (which can be varied). This allows taking balls at chest-high elevation, and driving more forward through contact, with the rising at knees and hips imparting added topspin. The topspin can be varied by further rotation of the grip, of course. I generally hit the shot quite flat for speed with a little topspin to hit deep into the court. It's essential a left-hand forehand, with two-fingers of the right-hand wrapped around the racquet butt for alignment and stabilization.
The Extended Two-Hand Back GRIP
This new video highlights game points that I was lucky to capture on video, starting from year-end 2021, and backwards to 2020, and finishing with game points from the 2018 video. The stroke can be used to advantage for players of shorter stature and >40, by offering a smoother stroke than customary. I mix the two-hander with one-hand backhand, and left-hand forehand on occasion (just drop the two RH fingers!).
Extended Two-Hand Backhand Highlights 2021-2018
The racquet used is Titled for each video section, i.e. Prince Graphite Woodie 100, Prince NXG Graphite Tour MP, Head Prestige Tour MP, Head Trisys 300 MP. I didn't capture any with my other favorite racquet, the Head i.Prestige Tour MP. The Woodie was a Goodwill $5 item, restrung with Gamma TNT2 React Pro 17 at 60# for a firmer string bed. Other racquets are strung with multi-filament Gamma Live Wire XP 17. Having passed 75 last summer, each year is taken one at a time, and happy to still be on-court nearly every day! . . . wondering if the next can be my peak year. My serve has improved in 2021, more leading on edge than prior years, and my most reliable shot for game play.
This short demo video was posted in 2014. The stroke is essentially the same today, which I invented over a decade ago. (with music!)
