Pain under the base of the index& ring fingers, and a bit on the ulnar side. Dies down after sharp pain in the first hit...

Tried standing and leaning on my hand on a table, and didn't feel pain at the ulnar so it's not TFCC.

Had it for a month or so (I know I'm stupid).... took 2 weeks off and it did not seem to get better, a wrist brace didn't seem to improve the situation (though might helped prevent it from worsening) either. Do you guys have any advices or recommendation ? Thanks so much!

Found another pretty good key point based site
http://www.fpnotebook.com/Ortho/Wrist/ExtnsrCrpUlnrsTndnts.htm

I'm gonna try the following:
- Cut a couple playing sessions, reduce to 1 or 2 per week (neeeed to keep playing and stay in shape, can't take rest until it's the last resort)
- Continuous wrist stretching and extensor strengthening exercises throughout the day
- Wrist brace on at all time while playing
- Lil ibuprofen love
- Icing

Heat treatment (heatlight) didn't seem to help... When I used an Asian patch (called Salonpas) it did help a lil though.

Wise words are much appreciated!

I got a little chuckle out of this. You make it sound as though a 2-week off is a long time.

I don't know how old you are, but if you are anywhere near 40 or over and you can recover from an injury in 2 months, then you're getting off easy!

your problem is at the base of your fingers (knuckles?). the ecu has to do with the wrist

Guess I didn't specify... it's the ligaments about half and inch under the knuckles. I went through alot of this health & fitness section as well as the links to the fitness sites to came to the EU conclusion, so did not say that scientific sounding name for no reason

I think more like you interpreted it to sound like that :) I just said the time and not any judgment whether it's long enough... plus I'm only 23 man my body is invincible (oh the college mentality)

its still not your wrist

Determined to hunt me down huh larry10s... I said the pain was under the base of the index, ring finer and on the ulnar side of the wrist... I dunno why you read it to at the base of the index and ring finger

On the Dorsal view on the right (right hand, palm facing down), the pain would be at the Dorsal wrist ligament (a bit under the base of the ring finer), and at the ECU (ulnar side of wrist)

"V.Signs
1. Extensor Carpi Ulnaris (ECU) location
1. Supination: Dorsal to ulnar styloid
2. Pronation: Volar to ulnar styloid "

When I suspinate I feel the irritation in the Dorsal ligament even more obvious...

"It is felt with the first strokes of the racquet, then gradually fades, disappearing after 5 to 10 minutes. It will follow the same pattern the next day. At rest, the player is aware of minor discomfort under the ulnar styloid."

... and that's me

My 2c....

Do not self-diagnose. Even trained physicians are taught to never self-diagnose. I'm guessing you're not a trained physician, or you wouldn't be asking on a forum, you'd be asking a colleague.

You only get one body, and wrists are particularly difficult (and unlike knees, hips etc, not currently replaceable).

Go to a sports physiotherapist.

I would if I was in the US... but I live in a 3rd world country and access to one is difficult, gotta try out all other routes I can first.

I have ECU tendonitis. it sucks. it has come and gone for a couple months now.

Oh yea? What have you done? I find Ibuprofen the perfect stopgap, as in it prevents the inflammation but it probably does not help the healing process. I also use the Salonpas pain relieving patch (which my neurologist also recommends), which helps with the inflammation a bit too.

i thought i had wrist tendonitis too.. was it a sudden pain or was it gradual?

i went to my hand surgeon and he diagnosed me with a subluxed ECU tendon.. for which ive had it in a long arm splint for 6 weeks.. coming off tomorrow..

with wrist problems, u NEED to go get it checked cus its so complex.. there is never simply just a "sprain" in the wrist.. it has so many moving parts

dont do what i did and ignore it for 3 weeks and think its a sprain or tendonitis

getit checked
